Preface
„Seminář ASŘ“ (Seminary of Automatic Control Systems), organized on Faculty of
Mechanical Engineering by Department of Control Systems and Instrumentation at
cooperation with Committee of Applied Cybernetics and Informatics - KAKI Ostrava,
achieved on this year 2005 honorable serial number thirty.
Seminaries ASR demonstrate as important Workshops every year their fixed position at
large offer of science-research actions with international range and with reputable special
even social level. Workshop „Seminary ASR“ was markedly signed on this times as an
effective platform for meeting of teachers and Ph.D. students from VŠB-Technical University
of Ostrava with specialists from other universities of Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland,
Hungary and other countries, even with specialists from industrial companies and next
institutions. On 2005 year is organized two parts of Seminary ASR: the first one is Student
competition - STOČ 2005“ as a Student Science Workshop and the second part is traditional
XXXth Seminary ASR as a Ph.D. seminary and competition.
Goals of Seminary ASR´04 "Instruments and Control" are presentation of R&D project
results, reciprocal interchange of participant's information, experiences and retrieval of
possibilities for cooperation on common projects, main with Ph.D. students. The next goal of
this Seminary ASR is to introduce the wider specialized public, experts and scientific workers
from universities, research institutions, industry, design and supply organizations with the
most up-to-date knowledge from the areas of automation, measuring, diagnostic and control
systems, program systems for control, SCADA/HMI systems, CAD, and other areas, and to
provide an exchange of experience.
The main topics of Seminary ASŘ´2005 "Instruments and Control" are
•
The methods and algorithms of automatic control
•
Modeling and simulation of control elements and systems
•
Measuring and diagnostic systems
•
The means of automation devices
•
Program support of control and diagnostic systems
•
Applied informatics (Computer Science)
The new line of international conferences ICCC were established at 1999 year with
partner technical universities - TU Košice (faculty BERG), AGH Krakow (faculty FMIR)
University of Miscolz and VŠB-TU Ostrava (faculties FME and MGF). This year Conference
will be held on May 2005 at Miscolz – Lilafüred with a name "ICCC´2005 - International
Carpathian Control Conference". This migratory action is periodical held by cooperation
faculties from Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic and new from Hungary and on 2006 year
they will be run at the Czech Republic VŠB – TU Ostrava.

DEPARTMENT
PROFILE
FACULTY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
VŠB – TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
OF OSTRAVA
Automatic Control
Applied Informatics
Mechatronic Systems
The Department is a place of research for postgraduate students interested in the Ph.D. study
branch Automation of Technological Processes
as a third level of study. After passing appropriate
exams and a dissertation defense, the successful
graduate receives a doctoral degree of science
(Ph.D)
•
•
•
The next two-year programme of study (MEng.
level) is called: Automatic Control and
Engineering Informatics. There are three main
specializations within the program:
A three-year bachelor program of study is called
Applied Informatics and Control and is it has
also established an option for physically disabled
students.
Three levels of study are available at the
department. We offer three-year programme
leading to degree of Bachelor of Engineering
(BEng) and next two-year programme leading to
the degree of Master of Engineering (MEng). The
first three semesters of study for BEng are
common for all branches on faculty and students
are registered as BEng students. The final decision
on which programme students take is reached at
the end of second study year.
DEGREE PROGRAMMES
The Department has a tradition of over 40 years. It
is specialized in the areas of system design and
programming of computer integrated production
systems CIM, MIS, CAD-CAM-CAQ concerning
engineering, industry and non-production areas.
HISTORY
The Department is active in research collaboration
with industry, concerning assisted learning
processes, and it co-operates with a number of
industrial companies in providing concrete
technical work connected with the designing and
implementation of measuring, diagnostics and
controlling systems for technological processes.
The department staff is involved in solving
a number of research and design problems related
to the control of technological, production and
economic processes. Number of domestic grants
and funds received every year prove the
R&D AND COOPERATION WITH
INDUSTRY
The work of our graduates is being applied in
industry, public services and business. Most new
graduates enter industry as design, development
and production engineers but many progress to
other areas such as sales, marketing and
management.
Some 10 to 15 per cent of our graduates stay at the
department to study for a higher degree, usually a
PhD by research, before going joining industry to
specialize in research and development or taking up
an academic career.
STUDENT CAREERS
The Department organizes innovation and retraining post-graduate programmes for workers
from industry. It provides also other kinds of
qualification courses concerning the application of
personal computer equipment, including computer
networks, measuring and automation techniques.
The Department is authorized to issue graduate
certificates.
•
Mathematics and physics analyses of

Two years ago we ratified and signed a contract
with one of the biggest software firm in the world Microsoft Corporation - about cooperation in the
fields of development and education of their
technologies. There was set up an association of
three subjects: Microsoft CZ s.r.o, Intergraph CZ
s.r.o and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, TUO.
The University Development Support Center
(UDSC), which is the official name of the
association, is the official education and consulting
center in the field of development tools and
development
technologies
of
Microsoft
Corporation. This is a considerable honor to our
university, because of relatively small number of
universities in the world having the same statute.
The fact of getting the contract is prestigious as
well.
UDSC is recently teaching several courses devoted
to Microsoft Visual C++ and Microsoft Visual
J++, programming with use COM technology,
programming with MFC library. It also very closely
cooperates with several big industry corporate in
the field of information technology.
