The main goal of the conference is firstly to present the results of the two-year research study named „The support of optimal development of personality and intellect of children with disadvantaged sociocultural backgrounds as a way towards respecting human rights“ and secondly to look for specific ways of improving the co-existence of people of different ethnical backgrounds in a pluralist society. The research programme that will be presented studied the intellectual potential and learning habits and skills of children whose mother language is not Czech. The programme also studied the family environment and parenting styles, the effectiveness of democratic co-operative discipline in class and the effectiveness of different behaviour styles of social workers. The conference offers to anyone interested the time and space for sharing his/her opinions on the topic of children with disadvantaged sociocultural background, especially those whose mother language is not Czech, to contribute to the discussions about the development of an appropriate approach towards growing and educating these children.
