colors of AIX holds
We offer AIX holds in 10 standard and 4
fluorescent colors. Each of these colors is
available for both materials the holds are made
from – polyester and polyurethane.
We can offer additional custom colors upon
request.

UV stability of colors
10 standard colors are UV stable and can be used
outside.
Fluorescent colors have specific properties that
fade when exposed to UV radiation. By this reason
we strictly do not recommend using holds made
from these colors outdoors.
Polyurethane holds – the intrinsic properties
of the polyurethane material lead to a gradual
change of the color towards a brown shade.
This change occurs more quickly under direct
sunlight!

The size rating of AIX holds depends on their
gross volume measured in cubic centimeters
(1 liter equals 1000 cm³);
Each AIX hold has a unique identification
number. This number is in the circle and is
placed on the surface of the hold. The AIX ID
enables a quick and positive identification of
every single AIX hold.
AIX holds made from polyester can also be
produced by adding multi-color dyes for more
variations – 2-3 color layers, 2-3 color swirls,
spots, or custom design.

about AIX
In 1996 climber Andrej Chrastina started
experimenting with creating new climbing holds
from a mixture of epoxy resin and sand. Then
after many attempts he developed how best to
make the shapes, molds, and final holds. Thus
was born a new brand of climbing holds under
the trademark “a.9”.
Since 2003 the trademark has been changed to
“AIX”, and new holds have been produced on the
basis of polyester resins.
To continue their progress and the development
of new materials and technologies in the
production of climbing holds, the AIX Company
chose to cooperate with the best experts in their
field worldwide. This decision enabled AIX’s use
of the newest materials and methods for the
production of their climbing holds. The transition
to the new production process was completed at
the end of 2013.
Since then all AIX holds have met the highest
standards and requirements put on these
types of products. Some of the most important
requirements are the strength of the materials
used and the colorfastness against water,
temperature, and UV radiation.
With the new production of AIX holds, each hold
is marked with a unique production tracking ID
number.
Now, most AIX holds are made from a polyester
composite, excluding those “huge AIX holds”
which already since 2010 are made from
polyurethane with Hollow Back technology
(Elements AIX Popcorn and AIX Turtle).
Solid holds from polyurethane are common
in North America and have also become more
popular in Europe in recent years. For this
reason we also offer some AIX holds made
from polyurethane, and expect this offer to be
increased in our very near future.
technical
informations
AIX “Secure System”
All AIX holds from the size S up incorporate our
AIX Secure system.
This includes a metal spring under the washer
inside the hold around the bolt-hole. This spring
ensures that the majority of the hold will remain
on the bolt on the wall, if the hold were to break
due to incorrectly use or mounting.
AIX “Dual Washer”
All AIX “bolt-on holds” incorporate a Dual Washer.
This metallic insert allows the use of both type
of bolts – cap head and countersunk bolts. The
net effect of this Dual Washer is exceptional
stress distribution within the body of the hold,
thus increasing the force required to break the
hold through the mounting bolt, and ultimately
resulting in a hold that is stronger and more
secure.
AIX “Hollow-back
Technology”
We use our Hollow-back Technology for all of
AIX’s big holds – all holds whose volume is more
than 1.5 liters. This technology saves material
and also reduces the overall weight of the hold,
without the limiting safety or hold durability.
For AIX hold with a volume of more than 3 liters,
the holds are constructed of a polyurethane resin.
AIX spume
new range of AIX holds
In 2013 we decided to prepare a new range of AIX holds in a completely new and
unusual design. Our new design is inspired by sea foam or ‘spume’. It is something
between an inanimate object and living nature.
The AIX Spume design offers a diverse style of grip, size, and shapes from positive
jugs to extremely technical holds for bouldering. Each hold has been carved by hand,
and we have spent a lot of time to develop the maximum precision of the design
and the ergonomics of their grip. This design can be very tricky relative to all others
on the bigger slope holds, where you always need to find the best position for grip.
There are 8 new sets include 38 holds from small jugs to our longest hold – the AIX
Spume “Paddle”. AIX spume is our largest range made in one design.

fatboys are here!
Let me introduce Bob, Bill, and Bud – the new brothers of the AIX family.
These three big fat guys have been shaped by Robert Leistner – our good friend from
Germany – an excellent route-setter and worldwide hard climber, with either rope
or mat. AIX Fat Boys are the first results of Robert’s shaping and are really works
of art! We believe that these are some boulder monsters that everyone will want to
setup and climb on!

new AIX holds
added during 2013/2014
In previous years we created lots of sets with many very different designs. We
have divided these sets into groups based on their grip or shape. In the last year we
wanted to increase our existing lines according to their design, filling in shapes that
were missing in our offer.

AIX structures
plywood volumes
Is anybody now surprised to find a lot of plywood volumes in different sizes on
the boulder wall or in the climbing hall? But it wasn’t so just 10 years ago. The AIX
company was the first who introduce its “AIX Structures” made from plywood on the
Outdoor Fairy back in 2008. We have always preferred the use of our AIX Volumes
for “direct holding”; it means you can also use the edges or surface of them for the
move, especially by boulder problems. Of course they also include many t-nuts to
add additional bolt-on holds onto the surface.
Our latest new “Structures” – the “AIX Brix1 and 2” and “AIX Ledge” are again very
simple and in the spirit of this philosophy.
AIX Ledge is intended for mounting on slabs or slightly overhanging walls for
technical problems, whereas “AIX Brix” will be better suited in steep overhangs or
in the roof for powerful moves, of course without added holds! AIX Brix 1 and 2 are
thematically similar but quite different in their shapes. We offer each shape of AIX
Brix in three sizes.
Apart from the new shapes of AIX Volumes, we have improved their mounting holes
to resist damage from repeated mounting by incorporating steel washer in them.
We have also made important progress developing quality improvements of the
sanded surface and paint finishing, which will be put in production during 2014.
