to the winter games in Falun 2012.
Welcome
Falun has a long tradition but also a future of big international culture and sports events. The ECSG 2012 is an important step
towards the FIS World Championships 2015. Falun has huge potential for
sports indoors and out, and when you are here, you should take the opportunity to visit the parts of Falun, including the Falu copper mine, that have put
Falun on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
I have great confidence in Korpen and Visit Falun
Borlänge AB, which organize the Swedish Company
Sport Games here in Falun every year, and I know that
your visit to Falun will leave you with memorable
experiences and a wish to return to our city of Falun!

It is a great pleasure to invite you
to the ECSG 2012 in Falun. By
locating the games in Falun, a city
with a long tradition of winter sports
activities, we can enjoy the very best
conditions.

The games will be held in one place thanks to the
Secretary General
unique and beautiful environment offered by the
Lugnet sports arena, where different sports can
come together indoors and out. Many records have been broken in Falun,
due to our tradition of organizing Korpiaden (Swedish Company Sport

The organizing committee for ECSG 2012 and I are pleased to
welcome the EFCS organization to Falun and the European Company
Sport Games 2012.
The ECSG 2012 will be organized jointly by the
Falun visitors’ board Visit Falun Borlänge AB and
the Swedish Federation for Company Sports, Korpen. Falun has a long tradition of arranging sports
events, and every winter, Korpiaden (Swedish
Company Sport Games) is held with approx 1500
competitors.

Sweden Falun 2012 ECSG 3
Falun
in the Kingdom of Skiing
Falun, with 55,000 inhabitants, is the capital
of the province of Dalarna in central Sweden
with the county administration, hospital,
university, etc. The historical area around the
Stora Kopparberg copper mine and Falun is
included on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
During the 17th century, Falun was
one of Sweden’s biggest and most
important cities. People used to say
that ‘Sweden’s fate depended on the
copper mine’. The province of Dalarna
is about 200 km northwest of Stockholm and has a total population of
300,000. The province of Dalarna is
located in central Sweden and is often
called ‘Sweden in miniature’. Dalarna
is rich in Swedish traditions, particularly
folklore, music and Midsummer
celebrations.
Dalarna was the home of the famous
Artists Carl Larsson and Anders Zorn.
Dalarna is also the host of the worldrenowned Vasaloppet, the biggest
cross-country skiing race in the world.
The little red wooden ‘Dala horse’, a
symbol of Dalarna and of Sweden as a
nation, is often seen on mantelpieces
and windowsills around the world.
Falun and the surrounding area have a
very long tradition of cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and ski jumping. For
more than 50 years, Lugnet has been a
well-known, attractive and
respected venue for Nordic skiing.
It also has a big sports arena! Today
Lugnet has facilities for more than 57
different sports, making it the most
complete arena for sports in Sweden.
4 ECSG 2012 Falun Sweden
A healthy outdoor life welcomes
visitors who come to Falun in the
winter. Our beautiful winter landscape
offers great opportunities for downhill
and crosscountry skiing. There are big
and small slopes for downhill skiers as
well as challenges for snowboarders.
If cross-country skiing is closest to your
heart, you can cover distances on tracks
tens of kilometres long and enjoy
breathtaking scenery, or plummet
down elite slopes and downhill courses
at the Lugnet venue. Skating is another
of winter’s great pleasures in Falun.
Gliding for miles across the ice on Lake
Runn in brilliant sunshine is a taste of
paradise.
Falun is a sporting city as well as a nice,
lively city with attractions such as shopping, good food and vibrant nightlife.
With its great range of shopping,
restaurants and entertainment, Falun
has a truly metropolitan feel.
The first international cross-country
race was arranged in Falun as early as
1947. Since 1979, the FIS Ski World Cup
events have been held here more or
less every year. Falun has also hosted
the World Ski Championships three
times, in 1954, 1974 and 1993 – and
now it is about to host them once
again in 2015.
THE
GAMES
Competing in Falun
Almost all competitions are held at the
Lugnet venue. The Ski Stadium is the same
one as that used for the FIS Nordic World
Championships in 1993, and the World Ski
Championships in 1954 and 1974. Some of
the tracks have been used for competitions
every year for the past 50 years.
The stadium is long and wide enough to host
mass start fields, and all the courses start straight
and on a slope. The alpine ski events are held just
20 min from Falun on the mountain of Bjursås.
Lugnet is not only a cross-country arena but also
a multipurpose venue with several indoor arenas.
The biggest indoor arena, used for almost every
indoor sport, is approx 7000 sq m.
The indoor arena will form the hub of the ECSG
2012 housing information office, restaurants
and exhibitions as well as the waxing facilities.
A wide range of indoor sports is also available in
the building.The indoor arena will be the venue
for the opening and closing ceremonies as well
as the social programme, which will vary every
evening.
All long-distance skating competitions will be
held on the beautiful lake of Runn. World Cup
competitions in long-distance skating are held
here every year.

THE
GAMES
Program
ECSG 2012 will take place 2-5 February 2012.
Every year, Falun hosts the Swedish Championships for corporate sport
in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, skating, floorball, volleyball and
five-a-side football. Our plan is to hold the EFCS Winter Sport Festival
on the same weekend. This means that we will not have to cancel the
games if there are not enough athletes from Europe.

The participation fee enables you to take part in the Winter Games,
European Company Sport Games 2012
Three evening meals at the daily get-together
at the Lugnet venue.
Opening and closing ceremonies.
Welcome package and overall service in
the meeting centre and at the arenas.
Free Transport to and from The Arena and to and from the
accommodation. Applies only accommodation that is booked through the
ECSG 2012 organization. All the athletes are responsible for transport to
and from Falun.
Organization
The ECSG 2012 will be organized jointly by the Falun visitors’
board Visit Falun Borlänge AB and the Swedish Federation
for Company Sports, Korpen.
Registration and Accommodation
The official registration page will open during summer 2011. We will use an
website for registration and payment. On this website you can also book and
pay your accommodation. You will be able to make a preregistration on the
website www.ECSG2012.se for the games, opening i Mars 2011.
When making the preregistration you will receive
regular newsletter from the organization
in Falun Sweden.
Travel to Falun
Falun is served by rail from Stockholm (Malmö,
Oslo), and Gothenburg daily. A direct train runs
from Arlanda to Falun approximately once an hour
Falun Borlänge
in daytime.Borlänge has a domestic airport, Dala
Airport, with connecting flights to Arlanda four
times a day. Ferries from Europe arrive in Gothenburg harbour. It is 460 km from Gothenburg to
Falun and the journey takes 6 hours by car.
