SISTER CITY AGREEMENT
BETWEEN
THE CITY OF OSTRAVA, CZECH REPUBLIC
AND
THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA,
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
WHEREAS, Ostrava, Czech Republic and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, have cultivated a
Relationship which developed as the result of an economic development trade
mission by representatives of the Czech Republic to Pittsburgh for a
Brownflelds Tour focusing on Environmental Issues in June of 1999.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The City of Ostrava, Czech Republic and the City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
USA, will confirm the following issues as their common goals;

Promote friendship between the citizens and their respective fellow country people of
both cities;
•
Further the relationship between the nations of the United States of America and the
•
Contribute to the peace and prosperity of the world;
•
Foster mutual understanding and trust through educational, cultural, industrial, sports
•
•
•
Cooperate together in a continuing effort to deepen friendship and goodwill;
Understand the business development trends and aspirations of its partner city;
Identify potential areas of cooperation not limited to private companies, but to also
Czech Republic;
and any other types of activity;
include universities, institutions and other organizations;
• Look for opportunities of building affiliations between companies, exchange technical
information and participate in mutual trade fairs; and
• Encourage the mutual growth and the spirit of renaissance for both cities through the
exchange of information and the promotion oftrade and investment in industries ofthe
future.
IN WITNESS THEREOF,
Both parties commit to exercise their collective best efforts to achieve the
above mentioned common goals to improve the relationship between their
respective citizens. Therefore, this Agreement is executed by the
representatives of both cities whose signatures appear below.
All steps taken by both parties to implement this Agreement will be carried out
in accordance with the legislation of the Czech Republic and the United States
of America,

Clause of the legal validity:
In accordance with Czech law §41 law no. 128/2000 Law Digest of Municipalities:
The Board of Representatives granted the City of Ostrava permission to sign the Agreement
through its decision no 998/21 on 26.9,2001.
This Agreement has two copies in Czech Language and two copies in English Language, each
party will receive one copy in Czech and one copy in English,

Zastupci obou mest, jejichz podpisy jsou uvedeny nize, proto vyhotovili tuto smlouvoi.
Vsechny kroky, podniknute stranami pfi realizaci teto smlouvy, budou provedeny ve
shode s legislativami Ceske republiky a Spojenych statu americkych.
