Park View PTO Minutes – October 1, 2014

Approval of September Minutes
 A motion was made by Laura Dounis and seconded by Michelle Mazzenga to approve the September
Minutes.
 The motion passed and the September Minutes were approved.
3. Old Business or Action Items



Dr. Collins discussed the need for an additional $4925.00 to fund the remaining balance of the electronic sign.
This was a significant increase over the original estimate of $9500.00 that was voted on at the May meeting.
A motion was made by Mindy Finnigan and seconded by Leah Kintner to fund the remaining balance of
$4,925.00 for a total of $14,425.00 to be donated for the new electronic sign.
The motion was approved with 9 positive votes and 5 negative votes.

 Mrs. Katz thanked the PTO for supporting the letter writing campaign.
Volunteers
 Volunteers are still needed.
 Volunteer sheets are in the front office and can be filled out and left for Cicely Lopez.
5. Advisory Reports:
Principal’s Report: Dr. Ivy Sukenik, Principal
 A thank you was given to Mrs. Linke, Ms. Reynolds and Mrs. Berger as well as the amazing volunteers for a
successful Fun Fair event.

 The Halloween Parade will begin at 2:15pm on October 31 .
 It is Park View Day at the Morton Grove Farmer’s Market this Saturday. Many teachers will represent Park
View including a teacher guitar group.

 An email will go home to 6 , 7 and 8 grade parents to sign up on-line for parent teacher conferences.
Parents can meet with individual teachers.

 International Night will be held on November 7 .
 Report cards go home on Halloween.
 The fall sports season will wrap up in the next few weeks.
 Coffee with the Superintendent sessions will be coming up. Look for an email to sign up to attend a session.
6. Committee Chairperson or Representative Reports:
Standing Committees
Fun Fair: Margaret Reynolds, Erica Berger and Lisa Linke
 Report on the Fun Fair
 The Silent Auction run by Lisa Linke raised approximately $9,000
 The Fun Fair raised about $4,037
-$1,495.00 was made in presale tickets.
-The arts and crafts table was very successful.
-The Junior High Olympics was successful.
-113 students volunteered.
-$857.55 was left over in budget.
-Fitness demonstrations were great.
-Each class took ownership of an activity.
 The Bake Sale raised over $1500.
Market Day: Jennifer Murphy-Alvarado and Michelle Mazzenga
 Market day sends all orders pre-packed now.

 Cookie dough sales will support the fundraising efforts for the 8 grade committee.
 Please call the school if you are not able to pick up your order during the designated time.
 $158.70 profit was made in September.
Membership: Laura Vandenbroucke, Kimmy Yaras
 235 families have joined.
 56 teachers have joined.

 Butter Braid orders are due this Thursday, October 9 .
 The Lou Malnati’s fundraiser will be in January.
 The China Chef fundraiser was successful.

 October 22 will be the Subway fundraiser.

 November 19 will be the Culvers fundraiser.

 International Night will be held on November 7
 8 countries are represented as of today.
 Fliers were sent home today advertising the evening and asking for families to participate.
7. Audience to Visitors
1. Lynett Mohr presented a plaque to the PTO that will highlight the gifts made by the graduating classes. Last
year’s class presented a check for $1400 to Miseracordia.
2. A representative from the Park District shared details about the Halloween event coming. She also shared the
the Park District is looking for community members to serve on the Recreation Advisory Committee. Contact
LeAnn Fisk if interested.
8. Meeting adjourned at 7:30pm.
It was followed by a presentation by the Principal and Assistant Principal of Niles West High
School.
Our next meeting is scheduled for November 4, 2014 at 7:00pm.
