Table from Rosetta
Rosettská deska byla nalezena roku 1799 Napoleonovými
vojáky poblíž města Rosetty. Obsahuje nápis z doby vlády
Ptolemaia V. ve třech odlišných typech písma – v
egyptských hieroglyfech, v démotickém písmu a řecké
alfabetě. Podle této desky rozluštil geniální jazykovědec
Champollion egyptské hieroglyfy, a tím otevřel bránu do
zázračného světa starověkého Egypta.
This table was found in about 1799 by Napoleon’s
soldiers near the town of Rosetta. The table is made of
black basalt. On this table there is a written legend in
three different scripts – Egyptian hieroglyphics, demotic
script and Greek alphabet. Thanks to this table, the gifted
linguist Champollion deciphered the Egyptian
hieroglyphics and by that he opened the gate to the
magical world of Ancient Egypt.
