A) ČLEN THE: - obvykle u názvů řek, moří, oceánů a kanálů, např. across the Mediterranean,
the River Thames, in the Atlantic, the Suez Canal
- obvykle u názvů divadel a kin, např. the Playhouse (theatre), the Odeon
(cinema)
B) ČLEN THE stojí před názvy míst, je-li jejich součástí předlložka of, např. the Tower of
London, the City of London, the Bank of England, the Palace of Westminster
C) BEZ ČLENU: - u většiny názvů ulic, tříd, náměstí a parků, např. on Churchill Road, in
Oxford Street, Trafalgar Square, Hyde Park – POZOR NA VÝJIMKU: the High Street
- u většiny názvů mostů člen určitý neužíváme, např. Tower Bridge - POZOR
NA VÝJIMKU: the Golden Gate Bridge, the Severn Bridge
- je-li součástí názvu přivlastňovací pád (´s), člen určitý neužíváme, např.
Nelson´s Column, at Durrant´s Hotel
