» The Liberec area
The Liberec Technical Museum
The exhibitions display historical automobiles,
motorcycles and an entire range of items of a technical
nature with a connection to the Liberec region. Amongst
other things, there are also bicycles, model cars, fixed
motors and an extensive exhibition on the history of
tram transport in the region.
» The Jablonec area
The Královka lookout tower looks brand new
Královka underwent reconstruction work during
summer, thanks to which it has not only been returned
to its former glory by the work, but the number of
antennas has also been reduced and the viewing gallery
has been changed. A self-service restaurant with a large
terrace has been opened in the basement of the original
chalet and it has acquired a large number of fans in just
a short time thanks to its good food and favourable
prices.
» The Frýdlant area
The Frýdlant château brewery is once again
brewing beer
The oldest mention of beer brewing in Frýdlant dates
from 1381. However, if it were not for a group of
enthusiasts and money from the EU, the tradition
would have completely died out in Frýdlant along
with the building of the brewery which was not far
from collapsing. Now, the first reconstructed part
of the brewery with a training and congress centre,
a small brewery, a brewing classroom, etc. has been
completed. The entire facility has been reconstructed
with maximum care and as such the building has been
returned to its original industrial appearance.
» The Tanvald area
Velké Hamry attracts visitors to its technical
museums
Combine your visit to the winter resorts with a visit
to two highly remarkable museums in Velké Hamry.
The Museum of Renewable Energy offers interactive
exhibits and everything that you need to know about
energy, while the nearby Museum of Socialist Vehicles
will introduce you to a retro style with its remarkable
exhibitions.

No matter what winter is like, whether it is muddy
or frosty, it always has long evenings and nights.
At around five, the rapid dusk chases us home
where it is light and warm. However, dinner is over
in a jiffy and the house is still clean from our preChristmas clean-up, so what should we do with
the rest of the evening?
The simplest thing is to turn on the television. All
it takes is a click and a stream of bluish light will
take us to an imaginary world behind the glass
of the screen.
However, I have the feeling that people who
prefer the world of infinite television series and
telenovelas over real life probably do not read our
introductions.
I have the feeling that our readers want more.
I do not know, if I am the right one to give advice,
but I cannot help, but talk about what I see among
the people I meet. And I truly do meet a lot of
people throughout the year.
It is possible to do a lot of beautiful things during
the long winter evenings. For example, you
could knit a sweater, gloves or some socks with
a Norwegian design, you could string an original
necklace which nobody else has, you could
spin your own wool, embroider, sew, crochet,
pergamano or batik, plait from paper and pedig,
paint glass and silk or make soap or candles; you
can do a thousand beautiful things or you can just
sit in an armchair and read all the books which you
did not have time for during the short summer
evenings.
You can make a thousand beautiful things, but
what you should really do is talk. With your
children, with your parents, your grandparents,
your partner and your friends.
So just do it. Turn off the lights, light a candle,
put a winter fragrance in the aroma lamp
(cinnamon, blood orange or even a little Christmas
frankincense) and just listen.
You will discover that your children are
independently thinking beings, no matter what
their age, whose opinions about life will not only
surprise you, but will also put you to shame with
their moral maturity.
You will discover that despite their experience
of life your parents or grandparents are often
timid creatures blundering around the jungle of
modern life.
Your will discover that your friends often hide
troubles which are very similar to yours.
You will discover that your partner knows about
your mistakes, is not bothered by them and
despite them, or perhaps because of them, still
loves you.
You can do thousands of beautiful things during
long winter nights. But the most beautiful thing
you can do is to talk to the people around you.

A new book entitled “Nine Crafts in the Realm
of Izerína the Fairy”
The Jizera Mountains tourist region would like to present
a new book entitled “Nine Crafts in the Realm of Izerína
the Fairy”. This is a loose continuation of the first book
entitled “Wanders with Izerína the Fairy”, but this time
the focus is on the traditional or forgotten crafts of
the Jizera Mountains which are slowly disappearing
from our everyday lives. The author of the texts is once
again our regional writer, Klára Hoffmanová, while the
accompanying illustrations have been provided by the
artist, Líba Novotná. The graphic layout was completed
by Ondřej Dostál and the Jablonec Printing Works, which
has also printed the book.
This new work first saw the light of day on 4th October
2014 at the Children’s Day in Jizerka where it was
officially christened in the presence of the author and
Izerína the Fairy. The book’s patrons are Mr Pavel Byron
from the Museum of the Jizera Mountains and Mr Pavel
Suchan from the Astronomy Institute at the Czech
Academy of Sciences who further graced the christened
book with another significant moment when he placed
a fragment of moon rock on it.
We are sure that this “continuation” of the story will
give its young readers exactly what we were aiming
for, i.e. an absorbing narrative about the secrets of the
old crafts and about the difficult mountain life and
traditions, without which it is not possible to build
a relationship with the place, the language and the
country.

The A5 publication with 90 pages has been published
in a total print run of 2000 copies and its final page
includes a thank-you to all those who have supported its
publication. The book is available on the counters of the
information centres where you can purchase it for the
recommended retail price of 130 CZK.

More stories about Izerína the Fairy
The continuation of the narration about the friendship
between two small girls and Izerína the Fairy will
provide readers with further points of interest from the
lives of the inhabitants of the Jizera Mountains. The
good spirit from these sometimes cruel peaks acquaints
the children with the crafts which enabled the local
inhabitants to get by in a landscape where nothing
grows or is found, but for all that is beautiful and

to the mobile application and social networks, the
recording of trips, photographs and the sending of
postcards by email. The Liberec Region expects that
these activities will especially enable the sharing of
experiences and the recommendation of points of
interest and provide motivation to young visitors. The
mobile guide will also work across the border, so there
will be no need to download a further guide once in
Germany.
The application will be completed this December
and it will not only be free to download from the
www.liberecky-kraj.cz tourist portal, but also in the
app stores for the appropriate operating systems.
Further activities which will improve the tourism web
presentation include the placement of QR codes on
tourist points of interest and services, new photographs,
virtual tours, web banners, a cross-border newsletter or
the new e-postcards on the web.

This year, the Liberec Region will improve its tourism
presentation thanks to the Modern Opportunities in
Tourism Marketing project which it will realise up to the
end of this year within the framework of the Cíl3/Ziel3
program to support cross-border cooperation between
the Czech Republic and the Free State of Saxony. The
Modern Opportunities in Tourism Marketing project
will be organised on the Czech side of the border by
the Liberec Region, while its German partner will be
Entwicklungsgesellschaft Niederschlesische Oberlausitz
mbH.
The main activity which the project contains is the
creation of a joint cross-border mobile application which
will provide visitors with a mobile tourist guide. At
present, most promotional activities have moved from
paper versions to mobile phones, IPads and tablets,
and the Liberec Region is also following this trend. As
well as basic information about the region, the tourist
attractions or the event calendar, the mobile guide will
also enable views of sites, the creation of an account on
absolutely unique.
Viewing the lives of the mountain folk as merely “getting
by” is, of course, a gross simplification. The author has
returned to the tradition of the local glassmakers whose
fame extended beyond the borders of our country and
whose art is still internationally renowned. After all,
the local costume jewellery, which several chapters in
the new book are devoted to, appears in international
markets and, if we were to frisk the tourists leaving
Prague, we would find at least a modest string of glass
beads, purchased expensively under the epithet “typical
Czech” and “handmade” in the possession of the majority
of them.
These glass beads provide a relatively faithful picture of
the life in the Jizera Mountains. They arose more or less
by chance. They must have brought a smile to the lips
of the followers of traditional values at the beginning
of their existence when compared with jewellery made
from gold and precious stones, but they eventually found
a place in the jewellery boxes of perhaps all the women
of the western world thanks to their simple beauty and
originality. Despite that, those who were there at their
inception and especially their children often have not
realised their true value and they tap their foreheads
while watching tourists purchasing expensive trinkets in
Prague’s Celetná Street. The same is also true in relation
to the awareness of the significance of the people
from the Jizera Mountains. We cannot boast any Nobel
Prizes, entries in the UNESCO register or in the Guinness
World Book of Records and tourists usually do not even
know where to look for the Jizera Mountains. Despite
this, however, the mountains form part of the Czech
topography and they are one of the places which the
Czech Republic can be proud of.
As well as traditional glassmaking, readers will also
learn about the other trades which were essential for
the operation of glass production, such as “smolaři”,
charcoal burners and wheel lubricators. Children will
learn something of the history of these crafts in the form
of entertaining stories and they will become acquainted
with their patron saints and get to know the daily
routines associated with them. There is also something
for adult readers who can revive their knowledge of the
terminology: what was known as a coal king, what are
the names of the individual types of glass beads or what
is a “svalák”? There is also mention of undoubtedly more
romantic jobs such as smuggler or bird trapper.
The new tales of Izerína the Fairy present the everyday
lives of the inhabitants of the Jizera Mountains to readers
and place them in a wider context. Children and their
parents will be reminded of the local traditions and of
a piece of the region’s history. And this is important,
because only those people who know their roots and are
able to respect them, can create a meaningful future for
themselves, their loved ones and their entire region.

Arena in winter
The Hanibal Mountaineering Arena brings mountaineering to the wider public in all its forms. The arena’s unique
location in the very centre of Liberec enables its patrons to try out various climbing techniques (including ice
climbing in winter), types of materials and equipment and to do so in places which, unlike the arena, are not
accessible by tram.
When it is so cold that all you want to do is to stay at home, that is the time when the mountaineering arena comes
alive. You can try out ice climbing (an activity which used to be reserved for high mountains) in comfort and safety
and under the supervision of experienced instructors. It is also suitable for children from 120 cm tall.
Come and see the ice kingdom at night when the spotlights light up the ice. The play of light and shadow in the
ice crystals.
Technical parameters:
A place for training glacier climbing, 10 lines, belaying and rescue training, a inclined icicle and an icy overhang.

A new learning trail in the environs

Dogsledding rides in carts, courses about hitching, lectures on dog sledding,
excursions into the life of the dog pack, stay at the Nordic dogs, residential summer
courses for children and youth with polar husky dogs.
Královka underwent many changes during the summer
Thanks to its new owners, the lookout tower has finally
undergone reconstruction and it now looks brand new.
It has been fully regrouted and all of the stones have
been cleaned and sandblasted. A new viewing gallery
connecting three sides of the tower has replaced the
original once which consisted of small balconies. The
number of antennas has also been reduced and the roof
has been repainted. The interior metal staircase has been
cleaned and repainted.
A new self-service restaurant with a large terrace which
is especially appreciated by families with children was
opened in the basement at the beginning of summer.
The restaurant is called the Sun Terrace (Sluneční terasa)
and it has acquired many fans throughout its short
“career” to date, mainly thanks to its excellent food and
favourable prices.
The reconstruction of the entire facility is by no means
complete, however. As well as the aforementioned
modifications, the “old” chalet has also been given
a facelift. There are plans to build a hotel complex with
wellness services here. This is part of the plan to revitalise
the entire environs. There will be a new children’s
playground, sports facilities, an outdoor amphitheatre
and relaxation zones for hotel guests and hikers.

The Jizera Mountains are a paradise for crosscountry skiing in the winter months of every year.
The trails there have been groomed for skiers
for more than three decades. The famous Jizera
Fifty cross-country skiing race has significantly
contributed to the development of cross-country
skiing in the Jizera Mountains. The arterial crosscountry skiing network has long been much
more than just the 50 km of trails which can also
be skied when the race is not on, but nowadays
up to 180 km of trails are groomed during
suitable weather conditions. There is something
there for everybody.
The grooming of the trails has been carried out
by the JIZERSKÁ, o.p.s. non-profit organisation
since 1999. Current information on the snow
cover in the Jizera Mountains and the condition
of the groomed trails and notifications about any
limitations are available at www.jizerskaops.cz. It
is also possible to find a lot of information from
individual skiers on the Jizera Mountains Arterial
Cross-Country Skiing Trail Network’s Facebook
page.
The grooming of the arterial cross-country skiing
trail network requires up to five million crowns
every year. A significant part of this amount
consists of contributions from the budgets of
towns, municipalities, the Liberec Region and
sponsors. The skiers who are able to use the
trails in the Jizera Mountains free of charge are
also able to contribute. The public can support
the public collection which has been permitted
and is inspected by the Regional Authority of
the Liberec Region. The use of these funds must
always be clearly substantiated, so people can
be sure that all of the money will be used for
grooming the cross-country skiing trails and for
the associated activities. There are several ways
of contributing. The most common, however,
is through the sale of stickers and badges
with the logo of the Jizera Mountains Arterial
Cross-Country Skiing Trail Network. The public
collection raised 230 thousand CZK last year.

NEW FEATURES ON THE JIZERA MOUNTAINS

NETWORK THIS YEAR
It has been possible to supplement the winter
signs in the area of Závory – Červená ruka
– Kuběnkova chata – Oldřichov v Hájích in
cooperation with the Czech Hiking Club. As such,
yet another location with clearly marked trails
has been added after last year’s signposting
around Bedřichov and the Josefův Důl reservoir.
There are now 30 locations in the Jizera
Mountains with the new updated winter map.
Each map contains information about the
latitude, the GPS coordinates and also the rules
for skiing on the groomed trails. The stands and
the maps have been established in cooperation
with the Nisa Euroregion.
The trails on the High Ridge which have been
established thanks to the Czech Forests Company
will also be groomed from this season onwards.
The reconstruction of the existing sections of
the forest trails and the additional construction
of some new trails will enable the connection
of Bedřichov – Maliník and the Hašler Chalet for
skiers. This will establish a new starting point to
the arterial cross-country skiing trail network.

The central area of the Jizera Mountains has the

maintains approximately 35 km of cross-country
skiing trails around Kořenov, in the area of Štěpánka
and in Paseky nad Jizerou (predominantly the territory
of the Giant Mountains National Park - KRNAP) and
in doing so it has created an expansive cross-country
skiing area with tens of kilometres of groomed trails
including the interconnection of the “Jizera Skiing Trail
Network” and the “Giant Mountains – Cross-Country
Skiing Paradise”.
» The Tanvald Cross-Country Skiing Circuit,
www.tanvald.cz / The circuit is located in the Tanvald
Basin behind the suburb of Výšina. The facility offers
3–5 km of regularly groomed cross-country trails.
There is a shorter circuit (simple terrain suitable for
beginners) and a longer circuit (the hilly terrain of the
motocross track). Access to the cross-country skiing
facility and parking: it is possible to use the car park
for the “Pionýrka” downhill slope (the upper area of
the suburb of Výšina) or access from the intersection
at the Tanvald substation (U Rozvodny Street) where
there is usually a ploughed parking area on the
meadow.
» The Smržova Cross-Country Skiing Circuit,
www.smrzovka.cz / The circuit is located on the
meadows behind the Smržovka church. The facility
offers 3 km of mechanically groomed cross-country
skiing trails with the option of connecting to other
trails: connections to the Nová Ves – Nisanka facility
and the Lučany nad Nisou facility. It is also possible
to connect to the Jizera Mountain Cross-Country
Skiing Arterial Network in Maxov via Krojčenk. Access
to the skiing facility and parking is possible at the
petrol station in Smržovka (the former agricultural
cooperative), at the “U Potůčku” guesthouse, at
the Smržovka church and from the intersection on
Jablonecká Street in the direction of the water tank.
» The Harrachov Sports Facility,

of groomed cross-country skiing trails both on the
ridges of the Giant Mountains and with connections
to other cross-country skiing areas on the Polish and
Czech sides of the Jizera Mountains. Two 7.5 km long
cross-country skiing circuits start right next to the
lower station of the chairlift in the Harrachov sports
facility. It is possible to go skiing along the ridges from
the top chairlift station on Devil’s Mountain (Čertova
hora). Fitter skiers can use the regularly groomed track
via Rýžoviště to Dvoračky or set off along the Mumlava
valley to Vosecká bouda.

The stadium can be used free of charge throughout
the entire day and it is lit in the evening from 5:00 pm

Jakuszyce in Szklarska Poręba – this involves excellent,
high-situated terrain where the snow lies from
October to late spring and thus provides excellent
conditions for cross-country skiing. The “Bieg Piastów”
race, the oldest and largest Polish mass skiing race
which has been included in the WORLDLOPPET
international long-distance skiing league, is held
there. The centre offers more than 150 km of crosscountry trails of varying degrees of difficulty which
are located in the Jizera Mountains, partially in the
territory of the Szklarska Poręba Forest Administration
and partially in the territory of the Świeradów-Zdrój
Forest Administration.
The cross-country
skiing school
Do you like cross-country skiing, but were never lucky
enough to be taught how to do it as a child (by a trainer
or a teacher)? Even so, you are bound to be able to
do a circuit, but it is not necessary to work so hard,
when a few tips from experienced and well-schooled
instructors (a certificate from the Ministry of Education,
Youth Affairs and Physical Education) will suffice to assist
you. The correct technique is the basis of everything and
even the best cross-country skiers devote themselves to
improving it (B. Daehlie spent up to 1/3 of his training
time improving his technique). We offer you instruction
in classic and skating techniques from the very
beginnings through to the correction of errors and on to
the polishing of the technique to ensure its perfection.
The entire training focuses on balance training, correct
and precise push-off, maintaining body balance, the
coordination between the arms and the legs, correct
posture, the transfer of weight from ski to ski, the
length of the slide and other skills. You can arrange for
the comfort of intensive “individual” training or join up
with a small group. The number of students with one
instructor is limited to 6. A discount is provided when
the group contains 4 or more students. You will test all of
the practical skills on your skis. We are happy to prepare
made-to-measure courses for larger groups, schools and
so on, including at your place of accommodation.

In 2012, a small house at the edge of Frýdlant (Větrov),
which is associated with the establishment of Czech
education in the Frýdlant area, was declared part of the
municipality’s cultural heritage at the initiative of the
National Heritage Office in Liberec. During the last two
years, it has been possible to renew even the oldest
parts of this structure. This includes the base and the
timbering, the bread oven and especially the overall
layout which indicates the humble conditions which the
local Czech farmers and craftsmen lived in one hundred
years ago. In 1911, the Czech owner of the building
became a subject of the attacks of German nationalists,
while the significant Czech teacher, Marie Bártlová, lived
The oldest mention of beer brewing in Frýdlant dates
from 1381; at that time, beer was brewed at the castle.
The House of Redern moved the brewery to the bank of
the Smědá River at the end of the 15th century and its
first reconstruction into a stone building was the work
of Albrecht of Wallenstein. The brewery was regularly
expanded from that time until its last large industrial
overhaul when mechanical cooling was introduced
in 1929–1930 and. The brewery was owned by the
aristocracy up until it was nationalised after the Second
World War and it brewed beer until 1949. In 1950,
the national administrator divided it between a dairy
(cheese maturation) and fruit and vegetable stores.
Four years ago, the entire facility was on the brink of
total destruction. Now, the first reconstructed section
there from 1926. Assistance from the State Fund for
Rural Development was also provided for the repair of
the house via the MASiF group. Since autumn 2014, the
main room and two small chambers have been repaired
and a genial book entitled “Love of the Green Bench”
(Lásky zelené lavice) has been presented to the public.
The building is used as the archive of the history of
the Czech schools in Frýdlant, especially the school in
Václava Bělíka Street, and of the work of the pupils from
the local schools. It is open to the public and meetings
are also held there.

restaurant, a hall for social events, a hotel and, if all goes
to plan, a museum of the brewery and beer brewing.

Wallenstein
Celebrations
has risen like a phoenix from the ashes. A training
and congress centre has been created there within the
framework of a project supported from the EU’s funds.
The centre includes an auditorium which holds up to
300 people, a microbrewery, a brewing classroom,
a CNC classroom, a computer classroom and a soft skills
classroom. The entire facility has been reconstructed with
maximum care and as such the object has been returned
to its original industrial appearance. A stable podium
designed for cultural and social events and for use as
a summer cinema has been created in the courtyard.
We can offer visitors tours of the facility, seating in our
microbrewery pub and the option of purchasing bottled
beer or promotional items from the brewery. The facility
will also be a venue for commercial and requalification
courses and social and cultural events. At present, about
Frýdlant warmly invites you to the Wallenstein

The depositary of the Museum of Socialist
Vehicles
Velké Hamry – you can find this automobile museum focussing on the history of
motoring in Czechoslovakia from the 1950s to the 1980s in the former textile factory,
near the monument to Svárov strike.
The museum includes displays of Czechoslovak and foreign vehicles, mainly from Eastern Europe. Go back
to a time when our roads were thronged with cars such as the Soviet Zhiguli, Skodas with rear-mounted
engines or the East German two-stroke “Bakelite”Trabant. Romania Dacia and Oltcit vehicles, Polish Fiats or
Yugoslavian Zastava vehicles will enable you to compare the various types of construction and shapes. There is also a highly interesting prototype Skoda 765 estate which
shows one of the possible directions which the development of our automobile industry could have taken at the end of the 1970s.
Be sure not to miss the typical orange and white Public Security vehicles, their older blue and white version or the Skoda 1203 in its ambulance and hearse variants, all of
which can be found in the section dedicated to official vehicles. There are also other utility vehicles, toys and many other exhibits, not only with a motoring theme.
The Museum of Socialist Vehicles also hires out its vehicles for films, advertisements, cultural and social events, company teambuilding events, programs which accompany
celebrations and parties and it also provides assistance at motoring events.

How can you warm yourself up when the real
Jizera Mountain winter arrives?
When you have just spent the day in the white beauty of the countryside and partaken in winter fun and games
associated with skis, skates, sledges, a pleasant walk or building a snowman, there is always one thing that such a day
has in common … the way you look forward to the warmth of home, an open fire at a chalet and sitting and chatting
about the experiences from your pleasantly spent day with your friends and family. This relaxing interlude spent “under
a blanket” should also be the notional end to the day and it should include something good to warm you up. How
about trying Hot Syrup? Kitl’s Syrup (mint, ginger or elderberry) is a Regional product of the Jizera Mountains and it
tastes wonderful.
The recipe for a guaranteed excellent Hot Syrup:
(recommended dilution ratio: 1:8)
» add a slice of orange or lemon and a pinch of cinnamon to the hot beverage
made from Ginger Syrup
» serve the Elderberry Syrup with a slice of apple or pear and spice it up with
a hint of cloves
» add a teaspoon of honey to the hot beverage made from Mint Syrup
Place the individual ingredients in a saucepan or glass for the hot beverage,
but be careful – don’t overdo it! Only a little fruit and spice is necessary, otherwise
they will drown out the original taste of the Syrup. Also pour the syrup into the saucepan
and then pour in hot water at a temperature between 70 and 80 °C. Wishes you bon appetit.

A new downhill slope has been constructed on Tanvaldský Špičák
SKI Bižu s. r. o., the operator of the Tanvaldský Špičák ski resort, which is part of SKIARÉNA JIZERKY along with the Severák and Bedřichov ski resorts (a common ski pass and
a ski bus), presents the biggest news for skiers in the 2014/2015 winter season. This is, without doubt, the new downhill slope which is called “Kostelní” (the Church Slope)
thanks to its view of two nearby churches. The downhill slope is 1150 m long and 40 m wide and it has a height difference of 220 vertical metres. It is marked as at the blue
and red levels of difficulty.
7.7 km of downhill trails are now be available to skiers and snowboarders on Tanvaldský Špičák. The new downhill slope also means that Špičák I and Špičák II are
interconnected by an easy downhill slope which everybody can master, including less skilled skiers and families with children. There will not be any artificial snow this winter,
but the construction of an artificial snow system is planned for next year.
The terrain modification of the central section of the red “Race” downhill slope by the chairlift has also been completed, including the expansion of the artificial snow system’s
distribution. The free car park has also been expanded at the entrance to the Špičák I ski tow.

News from the Czech Hiking Club
We would like to welcome you, our visitors, to the Jizera and Lusatian Mountains on behalf of the trailblazers from the Czech Hiking
Club. The trailblazers repair or supplement the trail signs and equip the intersections with signposts and arrows every year in order to
assist you to find your way in the terrain, no matter whether you are hiking, cycling of cross-country skiing. The signposts are installed
by the trailblazers’ technical group which also fits them with the necessary arrows and signs.
Allow us to provide you with a little instruction. Every signpost at an intersection includes a sign bearing the name of the location and
its altitude above sea level. Underneath the sign, there are arrows with a coloured tip which point the way and show the colour of
the blazed trail. The first line of text on the arrow states the name of the next nearest information point or signpost. The second line of
text includes the name of any significant places or important hiking trail intersections on the trail. The third line states the destination
or the place from which, for example, it is possible to end the trip and go home.
If you follow the local names on the signposts, you will be surprised at how easily you will be able to find your way in the terrain.
Most signpost are also equipped with a sponsor’s sign from the Czech Forestry Company (Lesy ČR) which is a significant sponsor
of our trailblazing efforts. It is also possible to see signs from other sponsors on the historical Ridge Trail dating from 1905 which
was reopened in 2013 with financial support from the European Union and follows the original route through our region. You will
recognise it according to the symbol of a blue ridge in a red field on the sign with the local name, while its course is also marked with
the word “HŘEBENOVKA” at the top of the appropriate direction arrows.
Further important information is provided on the Mountain Rescue Service’s signs which include emergency telephone numbers,
both of which are valid. Unfortunately, however, some parts of the Jizera Mountains have no mobile phone coverage.
The trailblazers are unpaid volunteers from the ranks of hikers who take care of renewing the trail markings and the signposts on
the hiking trails or marking out new hiking trails in their free time. They also maintain the other sources of information on the trails,
such as the map stands, direction signs and so on. New trails are currently mainly being established in association with the gradual
opening up of a number of former military training areas, as well as in the areas opened up after the departure of the occupying
Russian army. At present, the trailblazers in the Czech Republic maintain 41,500 km of marked trails, i.e. a similar amount as in
1939, but now without the territories of Carpathian Ruthenia and Slovakia. This best shows how much the density of the hiking trail
network has increased in the Czech Republic.
Trailblazers are trained volunteers who carry out professional work. Given that they all work in the same way and use the same
materials (signposts, signs) throughout the entire country, Czech trailblazing is unique and is rated very highly by the hiking public.
Our work is seen as a matter of course for the development of tourism and everybody has now become used to it. For us, this is
evidence of a job well done.
In conclusion, we would like to ask something of you. The trail markings are there for you, so please do not destroy them!

The 10 FIS rules of conduct
on downhill slopes:
1. Respect for others
Skiers or snowboarders must

This is the largest costume jewellery sales centre in Central Europe with
an area of 700 m² and it offers 4,600 types of costume jewellery from 32
regional companies. There are permanent creative workshops where you
can make your own accessories. Groups can book guided tours of the
production at the centre or a visit to the production company by phone.

REGIONAL PRODUCT OF THE JIZERA MOUNTAINS
In the autumn of 2014, the extensive group of the bearers of the Regional Products
of the Jizera Mountains logo grew to include further interesting products in the logo’s
fifth year of certification.
Products with the “Regional Product of the Jizera Mountains” logo can be found in the brownstone shops in
regular chains (especially food and beverage shops), at craft fairs and farmers’ markets, directly in workshops or
in the producer’s own shops and also in four shops which offer several products with this logo and can therefore
use the logo for their shops as well. These shops are in Liberec, Smržovka and Oldřichov v Hájích. The information
