Most people do theirjob to earn a living. But doing a jobalsosatisfiesone'sneed to beuseful and to usehis
talents.
Jobscanbedividedintotwomaingroups: manualandintellectual. Peopledoingmanualwork
aresometimescalledblue-collars and peopledoingintellectualworkwhite-collars.
Thedifferencebetweenthese twogroupsis in requirededucation and thesalary. Thesalaryoftendepends on
education and workexperience.
In manualjobspeople do manualwork. Theeducationforthemisshorterthanthepreparationforintellectualjobs.
Youngpeople are trainedforthem in Apprenticecentresfortwoorthreeyears. Twoyearsare
forthesimplestjobslikemason. Longereducationcan last threeyearsforprofessionslikecooks,electricians,
mechanics,hairdresser,plumbersorminers. But there are alsoprofessionsforwhichyoumust study
fouryears and haveschoolleavingexamination, such as forexamplebeautician,
shopassistantordecorator.Andthere are alsojobswhereyoudon'tneedanyeducation - like a digger
orhousekeeper.
Forintellectualjobspeoplepasstheschoolleavingexaminationoreven study
somekindofuniversity.Aftergraduationtheybecomedoctors, engineersorprofessors.
Thehighereducationyouhave, thebettersalaryyouusuallyget. But thisdoesn'tworkautomatically. Work in

Economicjobs: accountants, bankers, economists, variousmanagers;

Employershavehigherdemandsforqualifications, skills, andworkinghours On theotherhand
theycanofferbettersalariesor a share in profits. Somepeopledon'tlikeforkforanybodyand
theyworkforthemselves. Sometimesitcanbe very difficult, youhave to work long hours,
sometimesyoudon'thaveweekendsorholidays, and youcanhaveproblemswithloansortaxes. But itgivesyou a
