Metodický pokyn
Materiál je určen k procvičování slovní zásoby a
praktických komunikačních dovedností v oblasti sociální
péče – práce s problémovými dětmi a mládeží (ESP –
English for specific purposes – Social Care)
Žáci pracují s daným materiálem nejprve individuálně a
potom téma probírají ve skupině. Mohou použít slovník.
Součástí vzdělávacího materiálu je i metodický list pro
učitele s klíčem.
Work with troubled children and youth
Twelve-year old Paul is cheeky and hard to manage. He lives in an incomplete family. Lately he has
played truant several times and he is suspected from small robberies at school. How will you work
with him?
It is really necessary to start working with Paul soon before he gets in real troubles. So far he has not
done anything really serious but his offences are becoming harder and the line between normal and
criminal development of a child can be thin. Obviously he needs authority in the life. It is good to check
whether there is not a person he respects in his family, at school or in some leisure clubs. If we do not
find any a custodian can try to take this role. We can also try to find some attractive leisure activities
like sports, climbing or some creative activity. However, Paul should also see consequences of his
behaviour. In case he does not go to school he should get no pocket money or he should not be allowed
to play with computers. It is better to restrict his activities at home and let him attend clubs where we
are sure he is in good company and somebody responsible looks after him. If the problems continue
we can consider a temporary placement in an institution that treats behavioural problems. But it would
be better if it was not necessary.
