The Jablonec Farthing
Jablonec nad Nisou, the costume jewellery, glass and sports town became also a mint town on 1st
July 1993 when the Czech Mint opened here. This resulted in the utilisation of the rich local tradition
of the artistic processing of metals by means of engraving, chasing, minting and surface finishing. The
Jablonec farthing has also further expanded the minting tradition of this town in the wedge of the
Jizera Mountains. This not only involves an attractive souvenir item, but at the same time also a type
of local legal tender which will be able to be used once more partners join in this interesting project.
The Statutory Town of Jablonec nad Nisou also intends to issue Jablonec farthings in variable nominal
amounts in the years to come, always with a new design chosen from a competition for applied art
school students. The 2012 issue of Jablonec farthings can be acquired from our contractual partners,
of which a current list has been published below.

The design was chosen within the framework of a competition for invited students at Střední
uměleckoprůmyslová a Vyšší odborná škola Jablonec nad Nisou.

The validity is locally limited to volunteer participants in the project – see the www.jablonec.com
website for the current list. The Jablonec farthings will be valid until further notice. The expiry of
their validity will be announced on the aforementioned website.
