Metodický pokyn
Materiál je určen k procvičování praktických
komunikačních dovedností v oblasti ošetřování
nemocných – přesun pacienta na invalidní vozík
(ESP – English for specific purposes – Nursing)
Žáci pracují s daným materiálem ve dvojicích. Mohou
použít slovník. Součástí vzdělávacího materiálu je i
metodický list pro učitele s klíčem.

Helping a patient on a wheelchair
NURSE: Take your time, Mr Davis. Let’s just wait a little. … Is it better now?
PATIENT: Oh, thank you, nurse.
NURSE: Sit up and swing your legs over the side of the bed. … That’s it. I’ll help you to put on your
gown and slippers now. … Just put your feet on the floor, stand up and turn around to face me.
PATIENT: Yes, I’m fine.
NURSE: Good afternoon, Mr Davis. You’re having a CT examination in 20 minutes so I’ll help you into
the wheelchair now.
PATIENT: Nurse, I feel a bit dizzy.
NURSE: OK. Just make sure to stand up slowly. Good. Now sit down on a wheelchair. Right. … You’re
ready to go for your examination.
PATIENT: Yes, I’m fine.
NURSE: Take your time, Mr Davis. Let’s just wait a little. … Is it better now?
1. Work in pairs. Put the dialogue in the correct order.
2. Practise the dialogue. Swap roles. ACT out the dialogue. (Slight changes are appreciated.)
3. In following situation, practise using imperative. Try to use filler words like just and now to
make instructions less aggressive. Try to use adverbs like slowly or carefully to give patients
advice about how to do something.
Situation: Mrs Woodstock had a car accident and damaged her knee. She can’t walk. Help her into a
wheelchair and take her to Physiotherapy for exercise.
