NOTIFICATION
by the Department of Air Protection of the MoE regarding an evaluation of air
quality– the delimitation of areas with poor air quality based on 2005 data
Pursuant to Act No 86/2002 Sb., on air protection, areas with poor air quality are those within
a zone or agglomeration where a pollution limit was exceeded for one or more pollutants.
Table A contains the percentage of areas, divided into zones and agglomerations, where
pollution limits for human health in polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAC), represented as
benzo(a)pyrene, were exceeded within the zones/agglomerations (the % of area). The table
does not specify the percentage of areas where the pollution limits for cadmium or arsenic
were exceeded, as these pollutants were exceeded only in the Liberec Region in 0.5% and
0.4% of the areas respectively.
Table B contains the percentage of areas, divided into zones and agglomerations, where the
total pollution limit for the protection of vegetation was exceeded in ground-level ozone.
Figure No 1 specifies areas where pollution limits or target pollution limits were exceeded in
the Czech Republic in 2005.
The delimitation of areas with poor air quality is provided in table I, individually for each
zone and agglomeration. The smallest territorial unit for which poor air quality were
delimitated is the area served by individual building departments. The division of the Czech
Republic into agglomerations and zones is provided in the Bulletin of the Ministry of the
Environment No 11/2005.
Information concerning the size of areas where pollution limits and the tolerances for nitrogen
oxide were exceeded (table II) and areas where the total pollution limits for benzo(a)pyrene,
cadmium and arsenic were exceeded is provided separately. This information is presented as a
percentage of each area served by a separate building department (table III).
Table IV specifies exceeded pollution limits and target pollution limits for the protection of
ecosystems and vegetation as percentage of individual protected areas, divided into zones and
agglomerations
Information on exceeding all admissible air pollution levels for human health (with the
exception of the target pollution limit for ground-level ozone) is also provided graphically for
each zone and agglomeration.
