NEURON SCIENCE FUTURE
May 14, 2014, 5 p.m.
Balling Hall, National Technical Library, Technická 6, Praha 6
This year's award recipients – researchers under 40 in the categories of physics, chemistry,
mathematics and social sciences – were selected by Neuron's Scientific Board made up of leading
Czech scientists. Each Neuron Award laureate also receives CZK 250,000 in recognition of their
research work.
NEURON YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD RECIPIENTS 2014:
Mgr. David Krejčiřík, Ph.D., DSc.
Neuron Young Scientist Award 2014 for Mathematics
Doc. PhDr. et JUDr. Jakub Rákosník, Ph.D.
Neuron Young Scientist Award 2014 for Social Sciences

Neuron Young Scientist Award 2014 for Physics
The awards in each category were presented with the help of “laymen experts” – Ondřej Sokol, Tomáš
Hanák, Jakub Kohák, Martina Kociánová and Vavřinec Hradilek – who interviewed the awardees to get
to the heart of their research projects; we found out about the last time one scientist's chemistry
experiments led to an explosion and whether it two antivirus programs could possibly co-exist in a
single operation system or, in this case, inside the body of a tested mammal.
The Neuron Awards were presented by a group of Czech benefactors – Neuron's founder Karel
Janeček, Libor Winkler, Dalibor Dědek and Martin Ducháček.
Members of Neuron's Scientific Board also attended the event: Prof. Mgr. Miroslav Bárta Dr. (expert in
the Social Sciences category), Prof. Ing. Pavel Hobza, DrSc., dr.h.c., FRSC . (expert in Chemistry), Prof.
Jiří Chýla, CSc. (expert in Physics), Prof. Ing. Zdeněk Strakoš, DrSc. (expert in Mathematics) and Prof.
MUDr. Josef Veselka, CSc. (expert in Medicine).
Prima ZOOM Neuron Award
A number of other awards were presented during the gala. Petr Jan Juračka received the Prima ZOOM
1
Neuron Award for Best Science Video that comes with a prize of CZK 100,000.
CERN Trip Certificate
David Dvorský, a 12-year-old physics enthusiast received a certificate for a tour of the CERN

This fall, the Neuron Fund for the Support of Science will hand out a total of CZK 5 million as part of its
grant competition to support five outstanding research projects, and it will also present the Neuron
Lifetime Achievement Award. Over the last five years, the Neuron Fund's benefactors have donated
more than CZK 20 million for research projects by young scientists, and supported a variety of original
projects that promote science.
