KF Application Note No. K- 2 Title: Water in methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (butanone peroxide) Summary: The water content of methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is determined according to Karl Fischer using two-component reagents in order to prevent unwanted side reactions. (Separate solvent is used to ensure a high excess of sulphur dioxide and amine in the titration vessel.) Sample: Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (butanone peroxide) Sample Preparation: none Instruments and Accessories: 701 KF Titrino or 720 KFS Titrino, 703 Titration Stand, printer Analysis: Add ca. 0.2 ... 0.5 g sample to 20 mL conditioned solvent using a syringe, then start the automatic determination. In order to obtain highly reproducible results it is necessary to exchange the solvent after each determination. Reagents: Solvent: Hydranal Solvent (Riedel-de Haën) Titrant: Hydranal Titrant 5 (Riedel-de Haën) Results: AVG(5) = 0.785 +/- 0.009 % water Settings: 701 KF Titrino >titration parameters extr.time stop crit.: stop drift >preselections conditioning: req.smpl size: report: 30 s drift 30 uL/min on on full K-2/1
