Abstract: All of the amides present in the bio-oil have been recognized as hydrothermal coupling compounds of the decomposition products of amino acids with fatty acids, thus allowing for their structural elucidation and, also important, confirming their (bio)chemical origin. 1 HPST, s.r.o Písnická 372/20 142 00 Praha 4 Česká republika Tel.: +420 244 001 231 Fax: +420 244 011 235 E-mail: [email protected] Web: www.hpst.cz IC: 25791079 DIČ: CZ25791079 Citibank a.s., Praha 6 č.ú.: 2504270118/2600 Enhanced Sensitivity for Biomarker Characterization in Petroleum Using Triple Quadrupole GC/MS and Backflushing Authors: Churley, Prest Abstract: A rapid, reliable method for the routine detection and quantification of biomarkers in petroleum was developed using the Agilent 7890A/7000A Series Triple Quadrupole GC/MS with backflushing using a Pressure Controlled Tee configuration. In a single run, diverse biomarkers from several transitions can be detected, confirmed, and quantified at levels as low as 2 ppm, with RSDs well below 5%. This method is suitable for "fingerprinting" of petroleum samples and the deconvolution of oil mixtures in complex, multisource petroleum systems. Methyldibenzothiophene isomer ratio in crude oils: Gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry analysis Authors: Chiaberge S., Fiorani T., Cesti P. Abstract: MDBT isomers are used for the characterization of crude oils, without fractionation. Backflush is used with the GCTQ. Source rock quality and maturity and oil types in the NW Danish Central Graben: implications for petroleum prospectivity evaluation in an Upper Jurassic sandstone play area Authors: Petersen H.I., Nytoft H.P., Vosgerau H. Abstract: Jurassic rocks are tested for oil composition and their sourcing. Kerogen (Greek κηρός "wax" and -gen, "that which produces")[1] is a mixture of organic chemical compounds that make up a portion of the organic matter in sedimentary rocks.[2] It is insoluble in normal organic solvents because of the high molecular weight (upwards of 1,000 daltons or 1000 Da; 1Da= 1 atomic mass unit) of its component compounds. The soluble portion is known as bitumen. When heated to the right temperatures in the Earth's crust, (oil window ca. 60–160 °C, gas window ca. 150–200 °C, both depending on how quickly the source rock is heated) some types of kerogen release crude oil or natural gas, collectively known as hydrocarbons (fossil fuels). When such kerogens are present in high concentration in rocks such as shale they form possible source rocks. Shales rich in kerogens that have not been heated to a warmer temperature to release their hydrocarbons may form oil shale deposits. 2
