If you like Christmas, you’ll love Dresden. A grand total of eleven completely
different Christmas markets, from the by no means Dark Ages to the après
ski charm of alpine huts, makes for wonderfully conflicting decisions.
Holiday sounds fill the air throughout the city. From the many oratorios,
Advent, organ and gospel concerts, Dresden’s churches brim with festive insider tips.
Christmas tales also come to life in the city’s theatres whilst museums
host special exhibitions and boats bejewelled with lights glide along the
Elbe. If only Christmas could last more than just a few weeks…

e Dresden Striezelmarkt
Dresden Pflaumentoffel Festival
28 Nov. 2015
The programme recounts the history of the Pflaumentoffel (“Plum Man”).
Dresden Gingerbread Festival
29 Nov. 2015
The search for the new “Gingerbread Princess” reaches its crowning glory.
Sparkling lights, twinkling stars, Christmas carols, the tempting aromas
of mulled wine and gingerbread and children’s eyes all aglow. The Dresden Striezelmarkt has been bringing such exquisite jewels to our city
for 581 years, thus being Germany’s oldest Christmas market. A seasonal oasis in which to stroll, snack and shop: Erzgebirge wooden art,
Lusatian indigo prints, Moravian stars. And all naturally topped off with
a slice of original Dresden Stollen cake enjoyed under the lights of the
towering Erzgebirge tiered wooden pyramid.
Children can bake tasty biscuits in the baker’s shop. There is a puppet
theatre, the Elves’ Cinema, a gingerbread house, children’s carousel and
miniature railway.

Turning love and passion
into a Christmas culinary delight
For centuries, Dresden’s bakers and pastry makers have
guarded the secret recipe behind their traditional Christmas
delicacy. Baked by hand with a large helping of love, this
unique composition of select ingredients emerges as that
unmistakeable stollen taste. The roughly 130 bakers and
pastry makers making Dresdner Christstollen® in and
around Dresden are committed to maintaining the tasty
Christmas treat.
