Birmingham Hippodrome
The Project
“X-RAY: The unknown quantity” 2016 marks the 120th Anniversary of the first medical use of X-Ray
undertaken by Major John Hall-Edwards at Birmingham’s Children’s Hospital (formerly General
Hospital). Hippodrome Plus with its regional UK partners Birmingham Children’s Hospital NHS
Foundation Trust, University of Birmingham and Birmingham City University, will explore the present
day applications of radiology through a series of innovative temporary visual and digital art and
heritage exhibition formats in and around the Children’s Hospital, Snow Hill Train Station and
Colmore Business Improvement District.
EU Partners
Through our research we have identified cultural organisations within the cities
of Wurzburg and Prague as potential partners to a Creative Europe bid given the cities close
association with German physicist and Nobel award winner Wilhelm Röntgen, and Ukrainianborn Professor Ivan Pulyui respectively, the discoverers of X-Ray technology at the University of
Wurzburg and Prague Polytechnic respectively.
Birmingham Hippodrome would be a willing co-beneficiary and/or co-ordinator for the project,
bringing both cash funding and support-in-kind / staff resources to the project. It would be essential
to make quick progress however in developing the project concept and agreeing roles and financial
commitment from prospective partners however in order to meet the anticipated 1st October 2015
application deadline.
We would also be interested in exploring with both institutions and other EU partners similar
projects for submission under the Europe for Citizens programme, deadline 31st March 2016.
I really hope that this project may be of interest to you and colleagues, and that I may hear from you
soon.
However, if this is not something your institution would be interested in pursuing then I would very
much appreciate it if you could circulate this email to appropriate organisations within your
respective cities.
With best wishes,
Graham
