Markéta Maia Kuttnerová/ CZ (25) Markéta graduated from the Duncan Centre Conservatory in Prague (2011) and studied for one semester at the Fontys Hogenschool voor de Kunsten in The Netherlands. After her studies, she became one of the founders of the dance group E.K.S. o.s. At the same time, she also focused on her own creative work and presented her choreographies at festivals in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Russia. In 2012, she created a choreography LV-426 (premiered in the Ponec Theatre) and danced in the choreography Fox Hunting, choreographed by Ondřej Krejčí (premiered in the Duncan Centre Theatre). In 2013, she created a site-specific project Breath Control (premiered in Era Svět, Prague), she danced in the choreography Rhem Phase II, choreographed by Romana Ramer (premiered in Basel, Switzerland), and, furthermore, she created the choreography TENZE (premiered in the Ponec Theatre in October). She also created the choreography Cell (premiered in Basel, Switzerland). Markéta Kuttnerová/CZ (25) Markéta absolvovala taneční Konzervatoř Duncan Centre v Praze (2011) a studovala po dobu jednoho semestru Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten v Holandsku. V roce 2013 vytvořila site-specific projekt Breath Control (premiéra v Era Svět, Praha), byla interpretkou v choreografii Rhem Phase II (choreograf Roman Ramer, premiéra v Basileji, Švýcarsko) a vytvořila choreografii TENZE (premiéra v divadle Ponec). Ještě stačila vytvořit choreografii Cell (premiéra v Basileji, Švýcarsko). Jan Minařík is a solo dancer and assistant to choreographer Pina Bausch. Born in 1945 in Prague, he started dancing in the Army Arts Ensemble, which he soon left for the National Theatre in Prague. Later he worked at the Janáček Theatre in Brno, which he left for Innsbruck and later on he moved to Wuppertal to join Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater. This is where he danced as a soloist and worked as co-director of the company up till 2000. Throughout his career he managed to superbly master a wide range of dance techniques, be it folk dance or classical and contemporary dance. Jan Minařík sólový tanečník a asistent choreografky Piny Bausch Narodil se v roce 1945 v Praze, k tanci se dostal přes Armádní umělecký soubor, odkud záhy přešel do Národního divadla v Praze, pak do Janáčkova divadla v Brně. Odtud odešel do Insbrucku a dále do Tanztheater Piny Bausch ve Wuppertalu, kde působil jako sólista a spoluvedoucí souboru až do roku 2000. Během svého uměleckého vývoje prošel mnoha tanečními technikami, od lidových, klasické až k technikám mo-derního a současného tance a ve všech vždy výrazně vynikl. Pina Bausch The story of Pina Bausch is a story of her gifted generation. A unique opportunity presented itself in 1973 when Pina Bausch got to take over the ballet company in Wuppertal, Germany, a mid-size industrial city. She then radically transformed the company into a modern dance theater. It is worth noting that in its early days, as well as later, the Czech dancer Jan Minarik, who left the then Czechoslovakia after the tragic events of August 1968, was one of her closest and most loyal friends and colleagues. Pina Bausch’s style reached its most characteristic form between the 1970s and 1980s when she created her most cited works – The Rite of Spring (Frühlingsopfer, 1975), Bluebeard (Blaubart, 1977), Café Müller, Kontakthof (1978), Bandoneon (1980), Walte, Carnations (Nelken, 1982). Jarmila Jeřábková was born on 8th March 1912 in Prague in an prominent family of musicians. Jarmila Jeřábková continued the family tradition with dignity. She studied at Elisabeth Duncan’s School in Klessheim and Paris (1932) and then she founded a school of her own in Prague. Later she also taught dance at Charles University in Prague and Palacký University in Olomouc. At the age of 25 she was awarded the first prize at the Dance Congress in Paris. After that she established her own dance group in Prague with which she followed the ground-breaking principles of Isadora Duncan enriching them with a Czech dimension – the famous choreographies of Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances and his Moravian Duets, Ballads by V. Novák, Duets by J. Suk, The Polka is Coming by J. Zich etc. After the year 1948 modern dance was not allowed to occupy its rightful position in the Czechoslovak cultural life. The political regime of that time considered it individualistic and thus dangerous. Jarmila Jeřábková therefore turned her attention to teaching dance, creating a unique and internationally acclaimed system of education through dance. She is the author of a number of choreographies for children in theatre, film, and television, such as Nursery Rhymes by L. Janáček, and Painted Songs by O. Mácha. She wrote several books on children’s dance, e.g. Dance Training, Children’s Dance Motifs, From Spring to Winter – Twenty Children’s Dance Games. Jarmila Jeřábková, the outstanding Czech dancer and choreographer, founder of children dance education, died on 21st March 1989. e p o r u New E l Prague a v i t s e f 4 1 0 2 / 5 0 / 6 1 — 2 1 of s r e n ová k Win b á ř Je a l i m r Ja 13 0 2 d r Awa Pina Bausch Příběh Piny Bausch je příběhem celé její nadané generace. Nina Vangeli A leading theatre and dance journalist of the contemporary Czech art scene, theatre and opera stage director, choreographer, translator. She focuses primarily on contemporary dance, alternative dance, theatre and cross-over. Throughout her career she has also directed her attention to marginal theatrical or paratheatrical expression, the game phenomenon and theatre experiment; in other words to dance in its multiple cultural overlaps. In her work she is also inspired by Jungian thinking and by modern findings of theatre anthropology. Nina Vangeli is a vice-president of ITI /International theatre institute, Prague/. Nina Vangeli Přední divadelní a taneční publicistka současné české kulturní scény, divadelní a operní režisérka, choreografka, překladatelka. Jarmila Jeřábková, významná česká tanečnice a choreografka, zakladatelka dětské taneční výchovy u nás, zemřela 21. března 1989. ica/ r t s y áb bánsk t/ es budap / praha ut tn Maia K graphy a o t e é r k o r h a C /M Herold E s z te r he film t f ion o c h Project a Baus in P – N AH N E erová Bánská Bystrica/Záhrada – Centrum nezávislej kultúry 12/5/2014/Monday/pondělí 19.00 public lecture by Nina Vangeli/ přednáška Niny Vangeli 19.40 choreography of the dancers from J. After a two year break, the Duncan Centre Theatre held the final of the 13th annual choreographic competition “Jarmila Jeřábková Award“ that is focused on young choreographers from Central and Eastern European countries who are just starting their careers. The “New Europe Festival” features two competition evenings as well as a gala performance of winners. New Europe is Europe of the countries which – over 20 years ago – rid themselves of the political regimes that were not compatible with any kind of freedom, artistic feedom included. As a result, contemporary dance could not develop at all. „Cela je vymyšlené místo, z něhož vymizely lidské emoce i normální chování. Pocity, senzitivita a sociální potřeby neexistují. Cela je místem, kde je zapotřebí logického myšlení, opatrnosti a předvídavosti.“ Jarmila Jeřábková was an outstanding dance artist, a student of the Isadora Duncan school, developing modern dance in Bohemia at the time before the Second World War. Under the communist regime she stood outside the official streams and suffered many injustices of the regime. This competition bears her name with the aim to pay off the debt to this excellent dancer. In 2013, the Hungarian choreographer and solo dancer Eszter Herold won the “Jarmila Jeřábková Award”, the second prize was not awarded and the third prize went to Markéta Kuttnerová from the Czech Republic. Cenu Jarmily Jeřábkové 2013 získala maďarská choreografka a sólová tanečnice Eszter Herold, druhá cena nebyla udělena a třetí cenu získala Markéta Maia Kuttnerová z České republiky. Zelle/Premiere Dance: Markéta Kuttnerová, Jesse Lisser Costume: Colaboration Music: Poetry, Patrik Deletrez, Aphex Twin, Iannis Xenakis Support: Tanzburo Basel and Cathy Sharp Dance Ensemble in Switzerland/Duration: 20 min. “The Cell is a made up place where human emotions and common behaviour are gone. They have disappeared. The feelings, the sensitivity, and social needs do not exist. The Cell is a place for people who are convicted of a crime, which they have committed. The Cell is a place where logical thinking, watchfulness, and ability to foresee have the right place.” In the project called Cell, I am questioning freedom in the countries that consider themselves to be civilized. I can see strong links between the jailed and the hard working (office) people, who are jailed in their minds and in the every day machinery; the paradox of freedom – what is freedom? Can it be a state of the mind and a state of the body, even if we are locked up in a room V projektu Cela se zabývám otázkou svobody v takzvaně civilizovaných zemích. V Zemi/In the Earth Choreographer: Markéta Kuttnerová Dancer: Markéta Kuttnerová Costume: Markéta Kuttnerová Music: Lukáš Matoušek – Garden music, Kořeny času, 3. part of Stíny a Odlesky Duration: 14 min. I ask myself: “Am I on the Earth? Am I in the Earth? Am I under the Earth? Am I the Earth?” out the accent (MATKA) it is a Czech word and can be translated as “mother“. The topic which interests me is the physiological and mental state of a woman, whose body is ready for conception – time passes by and she lacks the baby her body longs for. This sets of a process of biological and mental erosion which she tries to stop. The solo performance MÁTKA is an attempt to understand, to observe, and to find peace in this period wasted expectations. Eszter Herold/HU (32) 1/8/1981, Györ, Hungarian teacher of literature and creative movement – dancer and choreographer. Resident dancer of L1 Association, Hungary. In the Earth maps the emotional process of a human being who tries to find out who s/he is and where his/her home is. The topic of the piece is based on a personal experience of spending time in the forest. This solo performance is – alongside with MATKA and hoME – a part of Eszter Herold’s CONVEX PROJECT, as it expands on the same theme. This new performance is a story of a woman who is growing old without a child, i. e. without having regenerated herself. The title of this multiple-genre art work has a double meaning. The word MÁTKA with an accent on the second letter means the beloved and betrothed woman on the side of a man in Hungarian. With- I did not start to dance till I was 4. In order to master expressive and precise movements I had to work harder and in a different way than others. I also had to have honest discussions with my body – I had to understand its limits and to find and create a universe within these boundaries. Besides dance and drama, I studied Hungarian and German literature, so I have faith both in verbal and nonverbal communication and in getting a message across. As a young school headmistress working with young people, I try to integrate the different ways of touching and reaching inside oneself as well as the other. In my opinion, words and movements connect metonymically, not metaphorically, with our outer and inner world, which is intuitive rather than cognitively understandable. As a dancer, a literature teacher, as well as a choreographer, it is my duty to try to find, show, and walk these connecting areas. Being a teacher of creative movement is a rather unique thing in Hungary, as there is only a handful of secondary drama schools that feature this subject. As a dancer and choreographer I usually work on my own or with a small team. It is therefore of great interest to me to start debates, experiments, and to share my experience. I am grateful for being part of a dialogue. Eszter Herold/HU (32) 1/8/1981, Györ, Maďarsko. Učitelka literatury a kreativního pohybu, tanečnice a choreografka.
