Kasia Fudakowski: Meat in the Window, Worried by a Wasp. Thomas Jeppe: Neo Lad Centre for Contemporary Art Futura In his work, Thomas Jeppe uses the method of abstract journalism. When collecting research material, the artist, on his journeys across cultural landscape suddenly chances upon a unique picture, object or situation; a symbol full of meanings which immediately announces itself as the goal he was looking for. In this specific reference the form is gradually disengaged from its original context and, based on similarity, connection and randomness, is woven into a net of different forms in a process of aesthetization. This allows for a general reorganization of its potential meanings, purposes and possibilities. THOMAS JEPPE K AS I A F U DA KOWS K I Te x t b y M i c h a l N o v o t n ý Te x t b y M i c h a l N o v o t n ý tinctive style of branded sportswear, Thomas Jeppe speaks about the culture of “dancing in the streets”, about the “dance is physical, a delinquent pirouette; the partners authority, the built environs, history” and whose music is a “chosen inevitability”, a resignation without despair. Jeppe’s project comprises also several copies of paintings by Czech romantic-symbolist painter, Jan Preisler, done by Jeppe himself. The works Jeppe chose were generally Preisler’s late ones characterized by planar emphasis, simplified shapes and a marked intensity of colours. Their over-stylized carelessness stresses a kind of void of the timeless dreamy youth The method applies the aesthetic portrayed. The supporting structures, resembling somewhat podiums or gallows, are Jeppe’s own work and are created on the basis of different types of joints, limited by a simple structure of square wooden profile and connecting pegs. Their formal purity and the simplicity of the structure associate an almost immaterial language of signs. Yet a moment later, it falls again into amorphous elasticity of the rubber podium below it. Formally, Jeppe makes increasingly daring trips into ever wilder areas of unexplored and forbidden aesthetics and more and more complicated and excellent jumps and pirouettes of his own contradictions. Neo-Lad thus becomes an incarnation of Jeppe’s personal artistic attitude. A joke can be understood as a passage from an initial understanding of a imagined situation to a different understanding, often quite the opposite one. The core of a joke exists in the shift of a contrast, where two positions are revealed in a moment of surprise, which is enhanced by subconsciously directing the expectations of the audience in the wrong direction. in an obvious absence of function usually attributed to the object, in a disproportionate exaggeration of a certain trait, as well as in many other moments. Kasia Fudakowski doesn’t work only with the textualization of the result; she works with its emotional effects. Therefore, she doesn’t only rely on linguistic figures but on associations. These are often chosen with an emphasis on stereotyped binary oppositions of dominance and submission in relation to attributes commonly used to describe women and femininity In Fudakowski’s works, this shift in terms of roundness, delicacy, from one perception to another weakness, dependence, meekness, takes place in the tension between softness, formlessness etc. the material and the form and in how this tension influences Her exhibition in the FUTURA us without us being aware of it. To umožňuje celkovou reorganizaci jejích možných významů, účelů a možností. Jeppe tak formálně podniká stále odvážnější exkurze do ještě divočejších oblastí neprozkoumaných a zakázaných estetik a podniká stále komplikovanější a bravurnější skoky a piruety vlastních kontradikcí. Jedním z původců tohoto napětí je poté prostor mezi vědomou mizérií a zkratkovitostí nebo volností materiálního provedení sochy a v tom jak zároveň precizně vystihuje to co M P y o M s e t M m e y o r M r s e M e i m y e r o M i s r P e (F e i o m u s e s o A r s t r 1 2 t (F e i a 0 h u r e n 1 e r s s d 6 r t e (F A S h r u 0 t i e r P u r e t o d S s h s i t e t Všechna díla vystavená v galerii Futura e u r e vznikla během 6-týdenní produkční s) d S r A rezidence v Praze rámci programu A.I.R. i t s 1 Futura. e u e a d r n 2 s) i i d 0 A 1 a n d A 0 dělá zobrazené tím, čím je.
