Rudolf Firkušný (1912 - 1994) patří mezi nejvýznamnější světové klavíristy
20. století. Neúnavný, celoživotní propagátor české hudby vystoupil
v nejprestižnějších koncertních sálech světa a spolupracoval s nejlepšími
orchestry a dirigenty své doby. Jeho první hudební kroky vedli Leoš
Janáček, Vilém Kurz a Josef Suk. Velkým přítelem se mu posléze stal
Bohuslav Martinů, který mu věnoval mnoho svých skladeb pro klavír.
Jako „zázračné dítě“, v pouhých deseti letech, vystoupil jako sólista
České filharmonie v Mozartově klavírním koncertu. Ve čtrnácti letech
jej president Masaryk osobně vyznamenal státním stipendiem, které
mu umožnilo studia v Paříži u legendárního francouzského pedagoga
Alfreda Cortota. Úspěšný newyorský koncert v prosinci 1941, který
z hlediště sledovali slavní klavíristé Rudolf Serkin, Arthur Rubinstein
a Vladimir Horowitz, znamenal počátek jeho hvězdné umělecké
kariéry. Na Pražském jaru v roce 1946 tedy na třech koncertech vystoupil
již jako jeden z největších světových pianistů.
Po komunistickém převratu v roce 1948 se Rudolf Firkušný rozhodl pro
trvalou emigraci. České publikum jej mělo možnost slyšet až v roce 1990
při jeho triumfálním návratu, který se symbolicky odehrál na Pražském
jaru. Tehdy se na pódiu setkal se svým dávným přítelem, dirigentem
Rafaelem Kubelíkem, se kterým jej pojil podobný osud politické emigrace.
„Jsem šťasten, že jsem se dočkal návratu domů. Byl jsem dojat tím, jak
mne přijalo zdejší obecenstvo, které mě vlastně ani neznalo,“ vyjádřil
radost ze splněného snu.
Rudolf Firkušný was one of the most renowned Czech pianists. He appeared
on the most important stages of the world with leading orchestras and
conductors. A pupil of Leoš Janáček, Vilém Kurz, and Josef Suk, he was also
a great friend of Bohuslav Martinů, who dedicated many compositions to him.
As a child prodigy, at the age of ten, Firkušný performed a Mozart piano
concerto with the Czech Philharmonic. At the age of fourteen, President
Tomáš Masaryk awarded him a state scholarship. A successful New York
concert in December 1941, which was attended by the famous pianists Rudolf
Serkin, Arthur Rubinstein and Vladimir Horowitz, marked the beginning
of Firkušný’s stellar artistic career. At the Prague Spring in 1946, he gave
three performances as one of the greatest pianists in the world.
After the Communist takeover in early 1948, Firkušný decided to leave the
country for good. It was therefore not till 1990, at the Prague Spring Festival
during his triumphant return, that a Czech audience was able to hear him
perform live once again. On that occasion, he was joined on stage by his
old friend, the conductor Rafael Kubelík, with whom he shared a similar
fate as a political exile.
‘I am delighted that I lived to see the day that I could return home. I was
moved that I was welcomed by the local audience, which actually did not
know me,’ he said, describing his joy at this dream come true.

pro společnost Sony. Je vítězem Mezinárodní klavírní soutěže
Arthura Rubinsteina v Tel Avivu a držitelem prestižní Avery Fisher
Prize. Člen American Academy of Arts and Sciences a držitel čestného
doktorátu na Yale a Columbia University.
Today, Emanuel Ax is generally considered one of the ten greatest pianists
in the world. He is the winner of several Grammy Awards. In the 2012/13
season, he was Artist in Residence at Carnegie Hall, New York. He records
exclusively for Sony. Ax is a winner of the Arthur Rubinstein International
Piano Master Competition (Tel Aviv) and a winner of the prestigious Avery
Fisher Prize. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences,
and holds honorary degrees from Yale and Columbia.

A pupil and friend of András Schiff, a winner of the Liszt Prize
awarded by the Hungarian Government, Dénes Várjon is a Professor at
the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. Today, he is one of the most
important members of the Hungarian school of piano playing. He is
regularly invited to perform at the greatest music festivals in the world,
including the Salzburger Festspiele, the Lucerne Festival,
the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Biennale di Venezia,
the Marlboro Festival, the Klavier-Festival Ruhr, and the Edinburgh Festival.

Jako zázračné dítě začal Lukáš Vondráček sbírat první zahraniční
úspěchy již v 10 letech. Za 15 let své kariéry vystoupil ve 27
zemích světa v prestižních sálech jako Wigmore Hall v Londýně,
Carnegie Hall v New Yorku, Cité de la Musique v Paříži, Sydney
Opera House, Palais des Beaux Arts v Bruselu, Auditorio Nacional de
Música v Madridu, Tonhalle Zürich ad. V Praze se představil několikrát
s Českou filharmonií.
A child prodigy, Lukáš Vondráček began to achieve his first successes
abroad at the age of ten. During the fifteen years of his career so far,
he has performed in 27 countries in prestigious venues such as Wigmore
Hall, London, Carnegie Hall, New York City, Cité de la Musique,
Paris, the Sydney Opera House, the Palais des Beaux Arts, Brussels,
the Auditorio Nacional de Música, Madrid, and the Tonhalle, Zurich.
In Prague, he has performed several times with the Czech Philharmonic.

Také Lise de la Salle se již od útlého dětství pohybuje ve světové
klavírní špičce. V pouhých 9 letech přenášela její koncert rozhlasová
stanice Radio France. Spolupracovala s dirigenty jako Fabio Luisi,
Lorin Maazel, James Conlon, Osmo Vänskä, Philippe Herreweghe,
Semyon Bychkov, Alexander Dmitriev, Dennis Russell Davies
a mnoho dalších. Její kariéra ji zavedla do Londýna (Wigmore Hall),
New Yorku, Berlína, Paříže, Mnichova, Bostonu, Tokia, Buenos Aires,
Moskvy, Petrohradu, ad.
Since early childhood, Lise de la Salle has ranked amongst the top
pianists in the world. At the age of nine, her performance was broadcast
by Radio France. Among the many conductors she has worked with are
Fabio Luisi, Lorin Maazel, James Conlon, Osmo Vänskä, Philippe
Herreweghe, Semyon Bychkov, Alexander Dmitriev, and Dennis Russell
Davies. Her career has taken her to many of the great cities of the world,
including London (Wigmore Hall), New York, Berlin, Paris, Munich, Boston,
Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Moscow, and Saint Petersburg.

We are delighted that this festival in celebration of the piano bears
our father’s name. The piano is an instrument he loved, and Prague is
a city he admired. This festival, which recalls his legacy as an artist, is
a tribute to both.
