Czech and international meetings and
the victory of the national representation
at the European Team Championships in
the 1st league are a promise of success-
ful results in the capital city of Russia.

Jaroslav’s parents attracted their son to sport when he was 10. During his junior years he
trained in Ostrava-Vitkovice with Ales Duda, in 2009 he changed Silesian club for Prague.
He has been coached by Jan Janku, a father of former significant Czech high jumper Tomas
Janku. Asked about his hobbies, he mentioned watching TV and going to cinema.

With regard to sports, Michal started with table tennis the first two years at the elementary school.
Then he played tennis for eight years but he quit due to financial reasons (he only grew up with his
mother). In the fifth grade he went to a sports class, which also focused on athletics. He developed
his passion for athletics at the stadium in his hometown Opava and with his friend-neighbour they
practiced „combined events” in the garden, threw cobblestones and jumped on a rod into sacks of
hay. In his leisure time after the season is finished he likes going to the mountains (climbing,
kiting, ski alpinism). He studies graphic design and photography at the Michael College in
Prague. He has had a dog (Jim) for five years, a ridgeback without pedigree.

Jitka found her way to athletics via several other sports, such as softball, field hockey, judo
or tennis. While being a top sportswoman she finished her major Corporate Finance and
Business Valuation at the University of Economics in Prague. In her childhood she stayed
in Buenos Aires for 3,5 years visiting a local school. Sometimes she earned little extra
money as a photo model. Among her hobbies are sports, reading and sight-seeing. She
trains in the training group called „Fast Girls“ with Denisa Rosolová.

Kateřina started with sport at the age of eleven. As a proud Brno citizen (the second largest
city in the Czech Republic) Kateřina announced she would never go to Prague, but better training conditions attracted her to this city in the end. She graduated from post office high
school, but working as a post officer wouldn’t attract her even after the end of the sport career. What she loves doing in her free time is sport generally, relaxing and reading books. Her
boyfriend is hurdler Martin Mazáč. Her sport hero is Merlene Joyce Ottey.

Anežka with her twin Eliška are multitalented athletes. They won gold and bronze at
10 000 m walk at the recent European Junior Championships, but Anežka had fulfilled
qualifying standards for Rieti in four other events – 1500m, 3000m, 5000m and was in the
3000 meters steeplechase final. She also successfully competed at the Mountain Running
Championships, likes other sports (i.e. triathlon) and is proud to be national champion in
road cycling.

Zuzana’s sister Michaela introduced her to athletics and has always been her idol. Michaela devoted her time to combined events and was successful at international competitions. Zuzana’s parents
brought her to sport and she began with athletics at the age of 12. In her free time she likes to play
golf. Among her hobbies is reading, music, going on trips, getting to know places, skiing and growing anything that could later be eaten. One of her recent passions is diving and she found out it
even helps her in athletic preparation. She enjoys good food, quality sleep and likes to relax.
Her biggest sport hero is Allison Felix.

Eliška’s mum brought her to sport and little Eliška began with athletics at the age of seven.
After a year-long-break caused by halluxes operation she returned in high style last year.
At her home stadium in Kladno she improved her own Czech record (that she used to
share with Zuzana Lajbnerova) in heptathlon. She has been studying at Charles University,
at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport. Her hobbies are music, reading and films.
From other sports she likes beach volleyball, hiking, snowboard and inline skating.
Jan Zelezny is one of her sport models.

Besides long jump Jana was also engaged in combined events and achieved a silver medal at
the 2009 Summer Universiade. In 2011 she graduated from the Faculty of Physical Education
and Sport of the Charles University (teaching psychology and physical education). Now she
works as a coach at USK Prague (University Sports Club). She has been involved in athletics
since the elementary school. She trains in Martina Blažková’s group called “Fast girls”. Jana is
interested in nutrition consultancy and sports psychology. She likes warm weather,
clean water in nature, mountains and sea, sleeping, and has a weakness for rabbits.

Tereza studies at the Masaryk University in Brno in the second year of the MA programme teaching
of physical education – fitness coach. She also continues her studies in the programme Regeneration and nutrition in sports. Since last year her coach is Lucie Plašilová (Vrbenská), former Czech record holder in the hammer throw. She regularly commutes for workouts from Brno to Pilsen (300
km). Besides her sports and educational activities she is an aqua-aerobic instructor and she also likes
singing and piano playing. Her achievements are the merit of her own and her coach’s
families and her boyfriend Michal Fiala (also a hammer thrower).

Jan started with combined events and many see a great potential in him in this discipline.
In long jump he jumped behind 7.5 meters and in high jump over 2 meters. He was discovered for pole vault in Opava, a city believed to be an incubator of pole vaulters. His spare
time belongs to cinema and movies, cars.

When Pavel was in the fourth grade at primary school, a friend of his took him to athletic
training. He was very naughty and hyperactive and sport was supposed to “calm him
down”. Jeremy Warriner is his sport idol. He wears sleeves on his arms sometimes to show

In her babyhood Lenka started attending „Sokol“ sport club, for a while she did judo,
then followed athletics. After moving to Brno in order to study at Masaryk University in programme Sports Studies, she chose athletics as her No. 1 sport. She is a fan of film horrors.
Her motto goes: „It is nonsense to be satisfied with reached, if I can get higher only by
work.“ She devotes her spare time to cycling, reading books. Among athletes she admires are Emil Zátopek and Jarmila Kratochvílová.

Martin’s sister Iveta introduced him to athletics when he was 12 years old in the hometown
of Uherské Hradiště. His main discipline was long jump in which he initially achieved better results than in hurdles. When he was 16, he moved to Prague because of better training conditions and his coach. He lives with his girlfriend Kateřina Čechová in a lodging
house of the Ministry of Interior in a 4 x 4 metre room. He studies at the University of Economics and Management. His hobbies include relaxing, travelling and cooking.

Daniel graduated from high school Arabska in Prague 6, he is about to study at University
of Life Sciences in Prague. He enjoys climbing because unlike athletics, climbing is an outdoor aktivity in nature. He has been climbing in Tatra mountains, in the Alps or Grosspriel
in Austria. His mum used to compete in mogul skiing and his dad puts his heart and soul
into any sport, it is therefore no surprise that Daniel has been doing sports since childhood.

Lucie’s motivation to start with sports was the effort to lose weight, that is when she started with running she tried walking for the first at the age of nineteen, during indoor national championship she did not feel like running 3km and for fun she said she would
have preferred walking, her trainer agreed, she won the race and never swopped walking
for any other discipline. Her hobbies include: bike, inline skates, junket.

Ladislav was taken to athletic stadium for the first time by his dad, even thought his dad never
did athletics. A friend of father recommended little son for Olomouc club. What Ladislav likes
about this sport is the fact that he can still get better. He studied at high school focused on
sports. Because of moving to Prague to be able to train with Petr Stehlik, former long-time national team member and Olympian, Ladislav terminated his studies in Olomouc and started
with University of Economics and Management in Prague. He is open to new sports,
such as basketball.

Denisa started as a long jumper, internationally known under her maiden name Scerbova,
she also tried multi events in which she became national (indoor) record holder. During
2010 she was successful at sprints, but changed to 400 meters run. 2012 she tried 400

for 8 years. Her mother Taána is her coach and under her born family name Kocembová
belonged to worlds top sprinters in the 80s, she is European indoor champion, multiple medallist from outdoor EC and national record holder at 4x100 m and 4x400 m. Her mum is
Jana’s sport idol. Her father was vice-president of Czech Athletic Federation, organizer of
Golden Spike meet, successful coach. Jana loves sports, cinema and cooking.

Martin’s parents were always engaged in sports – his dad used to play ice-hockey and his mom
handball. He began with football (like many other athletes), but also used his power in weight
lifting (for one year). In athletics he originally wanted to throw javelin but then he found out it
required lots of running. Regarding other throws, he combined discus and shot for couple of
years and began to be fully devoted to the latter in the 2011 season. He likes rolling about in
bed or watching technology news about cars. He likes pop and rock music but
“survives” hip hop that his workout colleague Ladislav Prášil plays to him in the car.

Sylva’s dad played football, Sylva started with volleyball. While at elementary school in her
small village (southeast of the country) she also represented in cross country and that is
where her first and recent athletic coach found her. She left volleyball and since fifth grade
became dedicated to track: she moved to sport school in Hodonín, 30km far from her birthplace. She studies at Masaryk University mathematics and physical education. She loves
to move as she spends her free time not only with volleyball, but also walking
or swimming.
