When our jazz club was
established in 1958 it took
its name from an ancient
term for a focus of cultural
activity. At that time the
Czech Republic was repressed by totality and the club, with its jazzy
feeling, became an island of free and openminded community in an ocean of communist bureaucracy.
The best artists in the country perform and
jam live to their audience, which makes for a
very familiar atmosphere. That is why the
Reduta soon became a very popular destination for Czech and even foreign jazz artists.
Names like Stivín, Viklický, Kratochvíl,
Déczi, Armstrong, Ellington or Marsalis
are inseparably connected to it. Nowadays,
the Reduta is still walking its old path, keeping its heritage of classical jazz music, but it
has also opened itself up to new trends, fusing jazz with modern, progressive styles. We
prepare an interesting and colourful line-up
of music every day including holidays, so you
just have to choose the right date to visit us
and pass a few pleasant hours in company of
great musicians and friends. We will also welcome you in our Saxophone bar, situated in
the club.
