Airports, observation flights, parachute jumps, parachute gliding www.plzensky-kraj.cz www.touristparadise.com PUBLIC AND PRIVATE AIRPORTS SEDMIHOŘÍ PLACES Of fAR VIEwS Rozsocha, coarse-grained granite, 3 to 6C+ (5C), 24 routes, boulders, blocks, fences Apart from church and other towers, there are uncountable places of far views found on tops of hills and other elevated points in the pleasantly varied countryside of the Plzeň region. Enchanting are views of deep river valleys, or those of the wooded mountain ranges from the peaks (most often not much higher than the adjoining ridges) of the Šumava, Bohemian Forest, Brdy or Slavkovský Forest. In the Šumava you should not miss the far views from the peak of Ostrý, from the rocks at the top of Březník near Dobrá Voda, or the panoramic views of the border mountain ranges from Zhůří over Rejštejn or the Hadí hill near Javorná. The highest peak of the Šumava and the Bavarian Forest, Velký Javor with its four observation platforms, can be reached by cableway. A very popular tourist destination is the Jindřich Šimon Baar memorial at Výhledy, offering views of Chodsko, a district of rich historic and cultural traditions. From the top of Vlčí hora near Planá u Mariánských Lázní you will see the deep valley of the Kosí stream as well as the sturdy Dyleň and the border range of the Bohemian Forest. The view from Radeč will show you the deep Křivoklát forests, and from the observation summer house on Hradiště near Březina in the Rokycany district you will admire the picturesque meanders of the Berounka river and the upland plateau around Radnice. The Horažďovice district is rich in places of dramatic views of Boubín and the central Šumava. Unfortunately, some of the most beautiful sceneries in the Šumava cannot be seen as they are parts of the local National Nature Preserve (”Černé and Čertovo lakes”) and inaccessible to the public. Those who once saw Čertovo from the observation gallery on the Jezerní mountain claim that the view is unforgettable. The only starting ramp for engineless flying equipment in the region can be found near Koterov (the Plzeň-South district). However, just outside the Plzeň region there are several others; e.g. on the Třebouňský hill near Toužim or below the peak of Ostrý on the German side of the Šumava. IMPORTANT NOTES Kozelka – special climbing regulations; climbing not permitted in winter, on snow or ice Žďár – climbing reserved to members of the Czech Mountaineering Federation, special permit required. Unlimited access from 1 July to 30 November, in December from 8 to 17 hours to Vyhlídková skála, Malý and Velký Oltář only. Come and take an aerial view of the Plzeň region. If you do, you will find out that almost half of the region’s territory is covered with woods and that the human dwellings and historic sights combine very nicely with the natural background. You will see deep river valleys and the natural border with Germany – the varied ranges of the Šumava mountains. The green carpet of woods and fields is interspersed with the ribbons of streams and rivers, and blue mirrors of numerous lakes including the large Hracholusky river dam, a popular summer holiday resort. Climbers may test their skills on nearly one thousand classified climbing routes, and the courageous ones try parachute jumping in tandem with experienced instructors.
