Are Mobile Phones Destroying Good Manners? Cell phones invaded our lives very quickly and we have not had enough time to develop some basic “good manners” rules for their use. A recent market research study claims that almost 70% of the 1,000 people that were asked experienced cell phone rudeness on a daily basis. Theatre managers will often ask people to turn off their phones before a play, but sometimes people forget. It is not uncommon that a show comes to a stop when a phone goes off in the audience. It is not rare to hear phones ring in movie theatres, libraries or even during a wedding ceremony. We should learn to switch off our gadget when we don’t need it and to be more private when we use our cell phones by calling back later or by moving to an area out of earshot of others. 8 Úterý 14 9 František, Evald 15 10 11 12 13 4 Říjen 2011 16 17 18 19 Glossary a cell phone – mobilní telefon good manners – slušné chování/dobré mravy to claim – tvrdit to experience – zažít/setkat se s rudeness – nezdvořilost/drzost/neurvalost uncommon – neobvyklý to go off – spustit/zazvonit an audience – publikum rare – vzácný/nezvyklý a gadget – elektronická hračka/aparátek out of earshot – pryč z doslechu 29. 9. – 22. 10.
