Term 5
Maths
We are excited to be finishing our third Maths workbook in Term 5. We will be adding and subtracting
beyond the number 10 and telling time to the half-hour. We will practice counting forward and back in
fives and tens. We will learn about capacity (half full/half empty); making amounts with coins; giving
change and odd and even numbers.
Literacy
This term, we will be learning about poetry and traditional tales. We will be reading funny poems from
Roald Dahl's "Revolting Rhymes", identifying rhyming words and making our own poems. We will practise
retelling and writing traditional tales while reading books like "The Stinky Cheese Man" and "Runaway
Pizza." We will also be using an Oxford Reading Tree programme called "Magic Page," in which we will
read books and complete activities on the interactive whiteboard.
Topic
We will be learning about Barnaby Bear. Barnaby is a friendly bear who travels the world. He will help us
learn about different countries and their cultures. We will be tasting foreign foods, singing different
songs and finding places on maps. How fun!
Science
We will be studying about Growing Plants. We will grow our own plants, study how plants grow and look
at local plants around our school. This is a perfect topic as the weather gets warmer!
Art and
Design Technology
We will be learning about structures and playgrounds. We will visit many playgrounds
around Prague, to see how they are built. We will then discuss how to design, and then
try to build our very our model of a playground!
Homework
Spelling log - Nightly
Reading - 1S, Monday to Wednesday / 1C, At least 3 times a week
Class News and Information
We will be going swimming every Monday, starting on April 19, for 10 weeks (until June 21).
The swimming kit should include: suitable swimwear (one-piece costumes for girls); plastic
carrier bag for wet costume; large towel; goggles; hairbrush; swimming cap (girls must have hair
tied back too); flip flops (for walking around the pool).
CZECH DEPARTMENT NEWS
V Českém programu se budou třídy Year 1 učit veselou
básničku o berušce. Vyrobíme si barevný květ s beruškou z
papíru a z uzávěru od PET lahve. Budeme diskutovat o tom,
jak si bezpečně hrát venku s kamarády. Naučíme se
dokonce rozeznávat některé dopravní značky!
Prostřednictvím her a zábavných aktivit si procvičíme čtení
a psaní slov obsahujících písmenka T a J. Dozvíme se
spoustu nových věcí o životě zajíčků a budeme o nich s
kamarády vymýšlet a psát hezké věty. Budeme se učit
zpívat novou hezkou písničku Zajíček ušáček, při které si
zatancujeme a zahrajeme na různé hudební nástroje.
