Provides both one to one and group work activities at ante-natal and post-natal stages. Support transition to successful parenthood Strong partnerships with key statutory agencies & vol orgs Advocates for teen parents with a wide range of services and agencies. Group sessions -personal development, healthy eating, weaning, bonding and attachment, family finances , benefits and positive parenting • Introduces and accompanies young parents to appointments and group sessions e e.g.. g NHS Young Mums Ante Natal Groups • Delivered by effective, flexible, specialist, trusted intermediary Support with childcare, travel & vouchers for food ( poverty means this input crucial). Communication using texting & social networking. 20. října 2014, Praha Mezinárodní kulatý stůl „SÓLO RODIČE“ Teen Parent Mentors Support and train young parents as mentors, acts as a progression route for teen parents providing positive support and role modelling modelling. Important and unique - identified as one of the key issues supporting success. Mentor receives continued training and support to develop as confident , capable Teen Parent Mentors. Training undertaken has included: • Intensive on-going mentoring training • Child protection • Solihull approach and Mellow Parenting training • Welfare benefits, budgeting /money management • Housing issues • Drug/alcohol/mental health awareness • REHIS, First Aid • Baby Sensory, Child Development Birth to 3 years , Weaning etc. Mentors are also encouraged and supported to undertake formal qualifications 20. října 2014, Praha Mezinárodní kulatý stůl „SÓLO RODIČE“ Transitional Groups 20. října 2014, Praha Mezinárodní kulatý stůl „SÓLO RODIČE“ Transitional Parenting Groups (Bouncing Babies ) Weekly groups provide additional service to young parents with babies 6 months + • Peer support model for young parents and a programme of activities which help parents to understand the stages of child development and promote attachment. • Activities included: weaning weaning, play play, speak speak, read read, baby massage massage, buggy walks walks, child behaviours, speech and language, Book Bug, Childsmile, Home Safety etc. • Peer support pp element developed p as some p parents may y experience p additional pressures health, financial or personal issues. • Parents develop confidence and ability to cope and find solutions to their problems when they have a good quality support A multi agency approach with local partners i.e. Social Work, Barnados, Public Health Nurses, First Steps etc. allowing access to a range of services for parents who require additional support. 20. října 2014, Praha Mezinárodní kulatý stůl „SÓLO RODIČE“ Transforming Lives Young Parents Employability Programme 20. října 2014, Praha Mezinárodní kulatý stůl „SÓLO RODIČE“ Transforming Lives Aims to achieve long term sustainable change in the lives of young parents by offering positive support at key transitions in their lives: teenager to parent; parents home to own tenancy; benefits to training, learning, volunteering and employment. • A holistic programme, to assist young parents to prepare for welfare reform, take control of their lives & provide a better life for their family. • Tailored personal & social development program provides intensive support to address additional barriers and provide parents with the core skills. • Links parents into NLC Employability Framework • Mentoring model involving young people in the design and delivery of the project, as well as in decisions which affect them. The average birth weight for babies is 7lbs 3oz. (SG Stats) • Reduction of feeling of isolation – increased social interaction • Increase in mental well- being of parent - depression , anxiety and irritability • A significant decrease in distress and parental perception of child difficulty and reduction in overall stress levels • Increase in parent’s confidence in dealing with challenging situations. Everyone is around the same age as me and realises what its like to be on your own with a baby …..the groups help me understand things about my son …..why why he cries cries, how to get into a routine , even how to play with him….. 20. října 2014, Praha Mezinárodní kulatý stůl „SÓLO RODIČE“ I really enjoyed the Transforming Lives programme ……It made me realise I’m not just a mum …… I got lots of support from my mentor and she still meets with me to help me with anything that is bothering me ………..I learned more about myself every day I came to the group.
