A checklist of Thysanoptera of Hungary

INTRODUCTION
The first list of Thysanoptera species occurring in Hungary was published by JABLONOWSKI (1900) in the series Fauna Regni Hungariae. Collecting localities of some species mentioned in that paper are now outside
present-day Hungary. The second list was published by PRIESNER (1928a),
based on several years of intensive work of FERENC PILLICH in and around
Simontornya, Western Hungary. It consisted of 144 species, among them
135 were collected by PILLICH, and included 21 species and 2 genera new
for the science. The checklist published by JENSER (1979) incorporated the
results of FÁBIÁN’s and JENSER’s collections, too. Research in the national
parks of Hungary as well as investigations of cultivated plants from the
1970s to the present provided a number of new data to the knowledge of
the Hungarian Thysanoptera fauna. Therefore it is timely to publish a new
checklist of the Thysanoptera of Hungary.
Unfortunately, a considerable part of the very valuable Thysanoptera
collection of PILLICH including many paratypes perished during the Second World War. The other part of the collection is deposited in the Forschungsinstitut Senckenberg in Frankfurt am Main.

ZUR STRASSEN 2003). The data published by JABLONOWSKI probably refer to
either Neohydatothrips abnormis (KARNY, 1911) or N. gracilicornis (WILLIAMS,
1916) described later. The specimens collected by JABLONOWSKI perished during the Second World War. Thus, the presence of this species in Hungary is
dubious.]
