Professor Antonio Carangelo was born in Lecce, Italy. He studied at the at the Music Conservatoire
in Genèva and at the Accademia d'Arte Lirica in Osimo. He perfected his technique with the famous
teachers Maestro Mario del Monaco and Maestro Ettore Campogalliani, who also taught Luciano Pavarotti,
Mirella Freni, Renata Tebaldi etc. After his debut at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in Switzerland, he
performed in many opera houses such as Osimo, Lecce, Bergamo, Udine, Milan, Lyon, St. Etienne, Tokyo,
New York etc. in leading tenor roles from Rigoletto, Traviata, Macbeth, Ernani, L'Elisir d'Amore,
Lucia di Lammermoor, Tosca, La Bohème, Gianni Schicchi, Madame Butterfly, Werther, Don Giovanni etc.
His interpretation in Verdi's Ernani at the New York Grand Opera provided his international
breakthrough. After many years of professional experience he devoted himself to teaching, so he could pass
on his sound technique to talented young singers. He founded the Carangelo Belcanto Academy in Vienna
and leads several Singing Masterclasses all over Europe. Maestro Carangelo is yearly invited to form part
of the jury at the International Singing Competition Antonin Dvorak in Carlsbad (Czech Republic).
Among Maestro Carangelo's students are to be found soloists of opera houses, such as Vienna State Opera,
Deutsches Oper Berlin, La Fenice (Venice), La Scala (Milan), the Salzburg Festival, Covent Garden
(London) and Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires).
