Why RFoG
q RFoG (Radio Frequeny over Glass) is a method to provide
DOCSIS 3.0 Services over a point-to-Multipoint Network such as
GPON /EPON etc.
q The RFoG Wavelength in the Return Channel is specified with
1610nm to run in parallel with GPON on the same splitter
q The RFoG Return Channel Transmitter is sending in Burst Mode,
which means only one Transmitter at a certain splitter can send,
the other ones are switched off (cable modem triggers the
Transmitter within 1µsec)
q RFoG is designed mainly for Cable Operators running today
already DOCSIS, but want to invest in a future proof Network
concept based on fiber optics (extension to GPON or any other
PON based data network)
