Vážení a milí hosté Grandhotelu Pupp,
s prvními vločkami přichází období, kdy kloboučky měníme za
beranice, šátky za teplé šály, golfové hole za lyže a posezení na
zahrádce u kávy za relaxaci u barového krbu nad sklenkou něčeho ostřejšího. Svátky vánoční nás pravidelně zaskočí dříve, než
jsme čekali a do toho všeho přichází bilancování uplynulého roku - co dal, co vzal. Úspěšní by konec roku nejraději odložili, ti
ostatní se jeho konce a tím i nové startovní čáry již nemohou dočkat. Všechny však dříve či později omámí sváteční vůně jehličí,
vánočního cukroví, smaženého kapra a doutnající purpury.
Přejeme Vám do následujících dnů hodně sil, chladnou hlavu,
trpělivost, klid k zamyšlení a splněná přání pod vánočním stromkem. Do nového roku 2008 zdraví, lásku, mnoho úspěchů,
přátel a pokud nemáte rádi zimu, tak také brzký příchod jara.

Geehrte und liebe Gäste von Grandhotel Pupp,
mit den ersten Schneeflocken kommt die Zeit, wo man die Hüte für Pelzmützen
tauscht, Tücher für warme Schaals, Golfstöcke für Ski und einen Kaffee im Garten für
Erholung am Kamin mit einem Glas etwas Schärferem. Das Weihnachtsfest überrascht
uns regelmäßig früher, als man erwartet und dazu kommt noch die Bilanz des vergangenen Jahres – was es brachte, was es nahm. Die Erfolgreichen würden das Jahresende
am liebsten verschieben, die Anderen können sein Ende und damit auch die neue
Startlinie nicht erwarten. Alle betäubt aber früher oder später der festliche Duft von
Lamm, des Weihnachtgebäcks, des panierten Karpfens und der glimmenden Purpura.
Wir wünschen Ihnen in die folgenden Tage viel Kraft, kühlen Kopf, viel Geduld, Ruhe
zum Nachdenken und erfüllte Wünsche unter dem Weihnachtsbaum. Ins neue Jahr
2008 Gesundheit, Liebe, viel Erfolg, Freunde und falls Sie den Winter nicht mögen,
dann auch eine baldige Frühlingsankunft.

Dear guests of the Grandhotel Pupp
With the first snowflakes the season is coming when we change elegant hats for fur
caps, scarves for warm shawls, golf sticks for skis and pleasant whiles in an open-airrestaurant over a cup of coffee for relaxation by the fireplace in a bar over a glass of
something stronger. Christmas regularly surprises us earlier than we expected and, in
addition to it, we assess the past year - what it has given us as well as what it has taken away from us. The successful ones would rather put off the end of the year and
the others can hardly wait for it and a new starting line which is coming with the new
year. However, they all will finally get intoxicated by the smell of needles, Christmas
cookies, fried carp and smouldering Christmas herbs. In the coming days we wish you
a lot of strength, serenity, patience and peace for contemplation as well as fulfilled wishes under the Christmas tree. And in the new year 2008 we wish you health, a lot of
love, success and friends and if you do not like winter, an early arrival of spring.
We are looking forward to you in the year 2008.

❚ Týden české kuchyně v thajském Bangkoku
❚ Porcelánové slavnosti
a Karlovarský folklórní festival
Ve dnech 24.-31.10. 2007 se konal týden české
kuchyně v Bangkoku. V těchto dnech připravovali šéfkuchař Grandhotelu Pupp Jan Pípal se svou
zástupkyní Vlaďkou Majorosovou české pochoutky
pro návštěvníky hotelu Dusit Thani. 24.října proběhla slavnostní recepce, které se zúčastnil také
velvyslanec České republiky v Bangkoku pan Ivan
Hotěk a mnoho dalších významných osobností.

im thailändischen Bangkok
Během porcelánových slavností byly vystaveny
k obdivu i zakoupení krásné porcelánové sady
a servisy, které na prostřených stolech Slavnostního
sálu Grandhotelu Pupp dokazovaly, že nemusí být
jen prostředkem ke konzumaci jídla, ale i elegantním
doplňkem. Atmosféru slavností doplňovaly domácí
i exotické lidové hudební soubory, mezi nimiž vynikli
hosté z Mexika, Rumunska či Černé Hory.
❚ Tourfilm 2007
In der Zeit vom 24. bis 31.10. 2007 wurde in
Bangkok Woche der böhmischen Küche veranstaltet. In diesen Tagen bereiteten der Chefkoch
des Grandhotel Pupp Jan Pípal mit seiner Stellvertreterin Vlaďka Majorosová tschechische Leckerbissen für die Besucher des Hotel Dusit Thani
vor. Am 24. Oktober verlief ein festlicher
Empfang, an dem auch der Botschafter der Tschechischen Republik Ivan Hotěk und viele andere
bedeutende Persönlichkeiten teilnahmen.
Jubilejní 40. ročník mezinárodního festivalu o cestování, turistice a cestovním ruchu Tourfilm představil v letošním roce 775 filmů a 438 multimédií z více než 137 zemí. Tak jako každý rok i letos byl součástí festivalu bohatý doprovodný
a společenský program. Jako hlavní host přijel
do Karlových Varů britský autor a moderátor cestopisných seriálů Michael Palin, člen legendární
herecké skupiny Monthy Python, který při natáčení sedmi televizních seriálů pro BBC procestoval celý svět.

Between the 24th and the 31st October 2007
a week of Czech cuisine was held in Bangkok. In
these days the chef of the Grandhotel Pupp Jan
Pípal and his deputy Vlaďka Majorosová cooked
Czech delicacies for the visitors to the Hotel Dusit
Thani. There was a gala reception on the 24th
October in which the ambassador of the Czech
Republic in Bangkok Ivan Hotěk and numerous
prominent personalities took part.
Der 40. Jubiläumsjahrgang des internationalen
Festivals für Reisen, Tourismus und Fremdenverkehr
Tourfilm stellte dieses Jahr 775 Filme und 438
Multimedien aus mehr als 137 Ländern vor. So wie
jedes Jahr war auch dieses Jahr ein Festivalbestandteil
ein buntes Begleit- und Gesellschaftsprogramm. Als
Hauptgast kam nach Karlsbad der britische Autor
und Moderator der Reiseberichte Michael Palin,
Mitglied der legendären Schauspielergruppe Monthy
Python, der während der Dreharbeiten von sieben
Fernsehserien für BBC die ganze Welt durchreiste.

The jubilee 40th year of the international festival
about travelling and tourism Tourfilm presented 775
films and 438 multimedia from more than 137 countries. Like every year this year, too, a rich supporting
and social programme was part of the festival. The
British maker of series of travelogues and reader of
texts accompanying them- Michael Palin- a member of
the legendary group of actors Monthy Python, was
the main guest of the festival. He travelled the world
when he was shooting seven TV series for the BBC.
❚ Porzellanfeier und das Karlsbader
Folklorefestival
Während der Porzellanfeierlichkeiten wurden zur
Bewunderung sowie zum Kauf schöne Porzellansets
und Service ausgestellt, die auf den gedeckten
Tischen des Festsaals von Grandhotel Pupp bewiesen, dass sie nicht nur Mittel zum Essenverspeisen
sein können, sondern auch elegantes Beiwerk. Die
Festatmosphäre ergänzten inländische und exotische
Volksmusikensembles, unter denen sich Gäste aus
Mexiko, Rumänien oder Montenegro auszeichneten.
❚ The Porcelain Festival and
the Karlovy Vary Folk Festival
During the porcelain festival beautiful porcelain
sets and services were exhibited to be admired and
bought. On the set-up tables in the Festive Hall of
the Grandhotel Pupp they proved that they are not
only practical things we use when we eat but that
they are elegant decorative objects too. The
atmosphere of the festival was intensified by both
Czech and exotic folk groups, among them were also
groups from Mexico, Romania and Montenegro.

V podzemí Grandhotelu objevíme interiér s útulnými zákoutími, stylovým osvětlením a krbem.
Dýchne zde na nás atmosféra staroanglických barů. Nikdo by nevěřil, že zde kdysi bývala odpočívárna pro kočí, později sklady a sklep.
Prostory byly pro veřejnost upraveny nejprve na
Slovenskou vinárnu, která byla později přebudována na pivnici Radegast. Až v roce 1998 se tehdejší vedení Grandhotelu Pupp rozhodlo dát tomuto
místu podobu, která k atmosféře hotelu opravdu
náleží. Nový klub má i svého patrona, společnost
Jan Becher, Karlovarská Becherovka a.s., výrobce
slavného likéru. Proto dostal klub jméno Becher’s
Bar. Zdejší prvotřídní obsluha Vám v českém, anglickém, německém a ruském jazyce nabídne nejen
karlovarský třináctý pramen, jak se becherovce říká, ale i široký výběr piva, míchaných nápojů
a gurmánských specialit. Zajít si sem můžete i na
jazz nebo swing v živém provedení. Becher’s Bar
se během Mezinárodního filmového festivalu stává útočištěm mnohých celebrit. V roce 2002 byl
bar rozšířen o luxusní salonek Mattoni s boxem
prezidenta filmového festivalu. Přijďte poznat nevšední atmosféru Becher’s Baru a podlehněte unikátnímu kouzlu zdejšího prostředí.

Im Souterrain des Grandhotels Pupp befinden sich
Räumlichkeiten, die früher als Lager und Keller dienten. Nun kann man sie aber betreten, ohne sich um
die Behaglichkeit fürchten zu müssen. Wir kommen
nämlich in ein Interieur mit gemütlichen Ecken, stilvoller Beleuchtung und einem Kamin. Hier fühlen
Sie sich wie in einer altenglischen Londoner Bar des
20. Jahrhunderts. Willkommen Sie in der Becher’s
Bar. Die Bar in dieser Gestaltung ist nicht das erste
Ergebnis der Bemühungen aus den zweckmäßig genutzten Kellern einen gesellschaftlichen Raum zu
gestalten. Zuerst wurde hier die Slowakische
Weinstube eröffnet, danach die Bierstube Radegast.
Erst im Jahre 1998 entschloss sich die damalige leitung des Grandhotels Pupp diesem Ort ein Aussehen zu geben, das zur Hotelatmosphäre wirklich
gehört. Der neue Klub hat auch seinen Schutzpatron, die Gesellschaft Jan Becher, Karlovarská
Becherovka a.s., den Hersteller des berühmten
Kräuterlikörs. Darum bekam der Klub den Namen
Becher’s Bar. Die hiesige erstklassige Bedienung bietet Ihnen in tschechischer, englischer, deutscher und
russischer Sprache ein breites Angebot an Bier,
Mischgetränken und Gourmetspezialitäten. Man
kann hier sowohl Jazz oder Swing live hören.
Vielleicht fesseln Ihre Aufmerksamkeit die geschlossenen Fächer mit Flaschen schottischen Whisky im
Regal über der Bar, es geht um persönliche
Flaschen bedeutender Gäste. In der Becher’s Bar
finden während des Internationalen Filmfestivals viele Berühmtheiten Zuflucht. Man kann hier die
geehrtesten Festivalgäste treffen, von denen kehren
viele gern in die Becher’s Bar zurück. Im Jahre
2002 wurde die Bar um einen luxuriösen Salon
Mattoni mit einem Abteil für den Präsidenten des
Filmfestivals erweitert. Lernen Sie die einmalige
Atmosphäre der Becher’s Bar kennen und kosten
Sie die einzigartige Anziehungskraft der hiesigen
Umgebung aus.

here just to listen to live jazz or swing. Your attention might be attracted by locked safes with the
bottles of Scotch whisky on a shelf over the bar they are personal bottles of prominent guests.
During the International Film Festival the
Becher’s Bar is a refuge for many a celebrity. You
can meet the most respected festival guests here
and many of them keep coming back. In the year
2002 the bar was extended by a luxury Mattoni
Lounge with the President of Film Festival’s box.

you can enter them without being afraid you
might miss your comfort. It is because you will enter
an interior with cosy secluded places, stylish lights
and a fireplace. You will feel the atmosphere of
old English bars of the 20th century here.
Welcome to the Becher’s Bar. Today’s bar is not
the first attempt to convert cellars into a social
room. At first there was the Slovakian Wine
Restaurant here, then the Radegast Pub. It was
only in the year 1998 that the management of the
Grandhotel Pupp decided to give this place an

aus allen Weltenden. Couscous
ist Vertreter aus Magreb,
wie die westlichen Länder
der arabischen Welt bezeichnet werden. Obwohl es
auf den ersten Blick nicht
so aussieht, handelt es
sich um eine Teigware.
Couscous sind eigentlich winzige Kugeln aus Weizen.
Man bereitet es zu Fleisch, in Salate oder auf süße Art.
Im Grandrestaurant bieten wir Ihnen Couscous als
Beilage zur königlichen Dorade, einem Seebarschfisch
der vor allem im Mittelmeer vorkommt, der bis zu 70
cm groß wird. Für Geschmacksanregung haben wir zu
diesem gesunden Gericht gratinierte Schnecken vorbereitet, was in Kombination mit französischem Camembert und altböhmischen Kräutern Ihre Geschmackszellen in optimalen Zustand bringt.

Exotic meals from all parts of the world can be seen on
the tables of European gourmets more and more often
in recent years. Couscous is the representative of
Magrebu, as the western countries of the Arab world
are called. Though it does not seem to be so at first
sight, it is a kind of pasta. In fact, couscous is tiny balls
of wheat. It is served with meat, in salads or it can be
sweet. In the Grandrestaurant we might offer you couscous with dolphin fish, a sort of sea perch which mostly lives in the Mediterranean and which can be 70 cm
long. To stimulate your appetite for this dish which is
beneficial to health, you can have snails au gratin.

Anton Pupp byl ze tří
bratrů čtvrté generace
Puppů nejstarší a nejschopnější. Zakladatel
rodu, cukrář Johann
Georg Pupp, byl tedy jeho pradědem, v podnikání nepříliš obratný
Josef Pupp jeho dědem.
Abychom pochopili význam Antona Puppa a jeho bratrů, musíme se
vrátit o několik desetiletí
zpět. V roce 1827 prodala vdova po Josefu Puppovi Český sál do cizích rukou. Josefův bratr Johann se dlouhá léta marně snažil koupit rodový majetek zpět. To se částečně povedlo až jeho synovi Heinrichu Puppovi, který
postupně vykoupil tři pětiny Českého sálu. Tento podíl
odkázal svým synům. Jedním z nich byl i Anton, který se,
stejně jako jeho praděd, stal cukrářem. Anton zřídil v roce 1866 v Českém sále velkou cukrárnu a v domě
Anglická královna pekárnu. Tedy až Antonovi a jeho
bratrům Juliovi a Heinrichovi se podařilo v roce 1870 cílevědomými nákupy získat zpět nejen celý Český sál, ale
i část okolních domů. Dne 20. června 1872 se bratři
Puppové stali oficiálními společníky rodinné hotelové firmy. Tento den je považován za počátek firmy Grandhotel
Pupp. Následoval zlatý věk, kdy hotel dosáhl maximálního rozkvětu a slávy.
Bratři svižným tempem budovali v areálu dnešního
Grandhotelu několik novostaveb včetně kavárny, restaurace, kulečníkového sálu a hospodářského stavení. Roku
1879 koupila firma pozemky v Březové, aby zde vybudovala vlastní zahradnictví. Během let 1876-1883 se
Puppové věnovali výstavbě a modernizaci hotelového
komplexu, který se původně nazýval Etablissement
Pupp. Mezi lety 1890-1893 proběhly rozsáhlé demolice
původních budov, mezi nimiž byly Český a Saský sál,
Bavaria a Zlatá studna. Místo nich vyrostl nový
Grandhotel Pupp. Roku 1890 se firma Pupp stala akciovou společností a jejím prvním prezidentem se stal Anton
Pupp. Později se bratři ve funkci střídali. Anton Pupp se
do historie města se zapsal také jako štědrý mecenáš kulturní i sociální sféry městského života. Pro svou ženu,
s níž měl sedm dětí, dal za řekou naproti Saskému sálu
postavit dům Quisisana. Anton přežil manželku i oba
své bratry a zemřel 7. října 1907. Připomínkou stého výročí úmrtí Antona Puppa vzdáváme hold jednomu z nejschopnějších členů slavného rodu.

Anton Pupp war der älteste und fähigste, von den drei Brüdern
der vierten Generation Pupp. Der Gründer der Familie,
Johann Georg Pupp war also sein Urgroßvater. Damit wir die
Bedeutung von Anton Pupp und seiner Generation verstehen,
müssen wir ein paar Jahrzehnte zurückblicken. Im Jahr 1827
musste die Witwe von Antons Großvater Josef den
Böhmischen Saal außerhalb der Familie verkaufen. Sein Bruder Johann versuchte viele Jahre vergeblich den Böhmischen
Saal zurück zu kaufen. Es gelang teilweise erst seinem Sohn,
also Antons Vater, Heinrich Pupp. Mit der Zeit erkaufte er 3/5
des Böhmischen Saals zurück. Diesen Anteil vermachte er an
seine Söhne. Anton, so wie sein Großvater, ist Konditor geworden. Im Jahr 1866 errichtete er im Böhmischen Saal eine
große Konditorei und im Haus Englische Königin eine Bäckerei. Erst Anton und seinen Brüdern Julius und Heinrich gelang
es im Jahre 1870, durch zielstrebigen Anschaffungen, nicht nur
den Böhmischen Saal zurück zu gewinnen, sondern auch einen Teil der umliegenden Gebäude. In dieser Zeit war Anton
schon mit Marie verheiratet, der Tochter der reichen Mattoni
Familie und hatte mit ihr 7 Kinder. Für sie hatte er das Haus
Quisisana, hinter dem Fluss, gegenüber dem Sächsischen Saal
erbauen lassen. Am 20. Juni 1872 wurden die Gebrüder Pupp
offizielle Mitinhaber des Familienunternehmens. Dieser Tag
wird als Beginn des Unternehmens Grandhotel Pupp bezeichnet.
Es folgte das goldene Zeitalter des maximalen Aufschwungs
und Ruhmes. Die Gebrüder bauten mit flinkem Tempo im
Areal des heutigen Grandhotels mehrere Neubauten auf, samt
eines Caféhauses, Restaurants, Billardsaals und Wirtschaftsgebäudes. Im Jahre 1879 kaufte das Unternehmen Grundstücke
in Březová, wo sie eine Gärtnerei erbauten. Im Laufe der Jahre
1876 - 1893 widmeten sich die Pupps dem Aufbau und der
Modernisierung des Hotelkomplex, das ursprünglich den
Namen Etablissement Pupp trug, dann viele Jahre Parkhotel
und heute wird es als Grandhotel First Class bezeichnet. In
den Jahren 1890 - 1893 verliefen umfangreiche Abrissarbeiten
an den ursprünglichen Gebäuden, unter ihnen der Böhmische
und Sächsische Saal, Bavaria und Goldener Brunnen. Stattdessen wurde das neue Grandhotel Pupp erschaffen. Im Jahr
1890 bekam das Unternehmen eine Aktiengesellschaft, deren
erster Präsident Anton Pupp wurde. Später wechselten sich die
Brüder in der Position. Anton Pupp schrieb sich in die
Stadtgeschichte als großzügiger Förderer vieler Kulturveranstaltungen ein. Er wurde auch durch seine freigiebige Unterstützung des sozialen Bereichs des Stadtlebens berühmt. Anton
Puup überlebte seine Frau und beide Brüder, er starb ungefähr
vor hundert Jahren, am 7. Oktober 1907.
Anton Pupp was the oldest and most talented of the three
brothers of the fourth generation of the Pupps. The founder of
the family Johann Georg Pupp was his great-grandfather. To
understand the importance of Anton Pupp and his generation,
we have to go back in time by several decades. In the year
1827 the widow after Anton’s grandfather Josef had to sell
the Bohemian Hall outside the family. His brother Johann
was trying in vain to buy it back for years. It was only his
son that partly succeeded in it, i.e. the father of Anton,
Heinrich Pupp. He gradually bought back three fifths of the
Bohemian Hall. He left this share to his sons. Anton, as well
as his great- grandfather, was a confectioner by profession.
In 1866 he established a big confectionary in the Bohemian
Hall and a bakery in the English Queen House. It was only
Anton and his brothers Julius and Heinrich that in 1870 managed to get back not only the Bohemian Hall but also some
of the houses in its neighbourhood through systematic purchases. At that time Anton Pupp was already married to
Marie, the daughter of the rich Mattonis, and had seven
children with her. It is said that he had the Quisisana House
across the river opposite the Saxon Hall built for her. On the
20th June 1872 the Pupp brothers became official partners
of the family hotel firm. This day is considered the beginning of the firm Grandhotel Pupp.
Then the golden age of a maximal boom and of fame followed. The brothers started building several new buildings
including a café, restaurant, billiards hall and some outbuildings on the grounds of the present Grandhotel Pupp at
a fast pace. In 1789 the firm purchased grounds in Březová
and established its garden centre there. Between 1876 - 1883
the Pupps dedicated themselves to the construction and
modernization of the hotel complex which was originally
called Etablissement Pupp, then the Parkhotel for long years
and whose today’s name is the Grandhotel First Class.
Between 1890 and 1893 several original buildings were
pulled down including the Bohemian and Saxon Halls and
the houses Bavaria and Golden Well. The new Grandhotel
Pupp was built instead of them. In 1890 the Pupp firm
changed into a joint stock company whose first president
was Anton Pupp. Later the brothers took turns in this function. Anton Pupp made his mark in the history of the town
as a generous sponsor of lots of cultural events. He was also
famous for his generosity in supporting the social sphere of
the town’s life. Anton Pupp outlived his wife as well as his
two brothers and died about a hundred years ago, on the
7th October 1907.

V ohybu řeky Teplé bývaly romantické louky místa, která návštěvníky lázní magicky přitahovala již v 17. století. Pořádali zde slavnosti v přírodě.
R. 1695 zde dokonce nechal saský kurfiřt a polský král August Silný II. postavit z větví přístřešky,
v nichž se odehrával banket. Inspiroval tak majitele pozemku, starostu Deimla, aby na své loučce
pod skalami vystavěl r. 1701 první karlovarský
lusthaus, módně nazvaný Salle de l’Assemblée.
Spoluinvestorem se stal právě zábavymilovný saský kurfiřt. Podle něj a také podle toho, že si na sezónu přivážel číšníky ze Saska, se brzy vžil název
Saský sál. Stal se základem a dnes již skrytým srdcem slavného Grandhotelu Pupp.

Saal ein. Er wurde zum Kern und dem heute noch
versteckten Herzen des berühmten Grandhotels
Pupp.

Od Puppů k Puppům
Andreas Becher, další karlovarský starosta, na přilehlém pozemku k Saskému sálu postavil r. 1728
další lusthaus. Obsluhovali zde číšníci z Prahy,
proto se mu říkalo Český sál. Becher postupně objekt odprodal v letech 1775-1785 Johannu
Georgu Puppovi. Ten Český sál přestavěl a před
budovou nechal vysadit dvanáct řad lip. Český sál
zdědil Puppův starší syn Josef, který ovšem záhy
zemřel. Mladší syn Johann marně o majetek usi-
loval, podle závěti však přešel na Josefovu manželku Barboru Urbanovou. Ale vdova r. 1827 objekt prodala třem různým vlastníkům. Zpátky pro
svůj rod jej získal až v r. 1870 Heinrich Pupp, syn
Johanna a vnuk zakladatele puppovské dynastie.

From the Pupps to the Pupps
Andreas Becher, another mayor of Karlovy Vary,
had another Lusthaus built on a piece of land adjacent to the Saxon Hall in 1728. Visitors were
served by waiters from Prague here and that was
why it was called the Bohemian Hall. Becher
sold it gradually to Johann Georg Pupp between
1775 and 1785. He had the Bohemian Hall rebuilt and had twelve rows of linden trees planted
in front of the building. The Bohemian Hall was
inherited by Pupp’s elder son Josef who soon
died. The younger son Johann struggled for the
property in vain - it passed over to Josef’s wife
Barbora Urban according to the last will. The widow, however, sold the building to three different people in 1827. It was Heinrich Pupp,
Johann’s son and the grandson of the founder of
the Pupp dynasty that won it back for his family
in 1870.

Der Zuckerbäcker Johann Georg Pupp (sein ursprünglicher Zuname war Pop) aus Weltruss kam
zum ersten Mal nach Karlsbad im Jahre 1759 in die
Dienste des Grafen Chotek. Im Jahre 1760 ließ er
sich hier auf die Dauer nieder und arbeitete als
Zuckerbäcker im Mitterbachs Café. Im Jahre 1775
heiratete er die Tochter des Besitzers Franzisca. Der
authentische Zeuge der Anfänge des Aufenthalts des
ersten Pupps in Karlsbad ist das Haus Zur Melone,
damals Hl. Tadeas genannt, wo sich das bekannte
Café und die Konditorei befanden.

The Melon House
The confectioner Johann Georg Pupp (his original
surname was Pop) from Veltrusy arrived in Karlovy
Vary for the first time in 1759 when he was in Count
Chotek’s service. In 1760 he settled here for good
and worked as a confectioner in Mitterbach’s café.
In 1775 he married the owner’s daughter Franzisca.
The Melon House, which was called St. Tadeas in
that time, was an authentic witness of the beginning
of the stay of the first member of the Pupp dynasty
in Karlovy Vary. There were a renowned café and
a confectionery in the house.

staletí trnem v oku celých generací Puppů. Stál na atraktivním místě a bránil jejich dalším plánům. „Překážející“ Boží oko se podařilo zakoupit v dražbě až v r. 1936, vlastně
v předvečer druhé světové války. Naštěstí jej ještě
stihli architektonicky začlenit do hotelového komplexu.

Die Nachkommen des Bürgermeisters Deimel bauten um das Jahr 1730 auf ihrem Grundstück vor
dem Sächsischen Saal noch ein Haus und nannten
es Gottes Auge. Und gerade das Gottes Auge war
der Dorn im Auge für einige Generationen der
Pupps. Es stand an einer attraktiven Stelle und
komplizierte ihre weiteren Pläne. Erst im Jahre
1936, eigentlich am Vorabend des zweiten
Weltkriegs gelang es ihren „das im Wege stehende“
Gottes Auge, bei einer Versteigerung zu kaufen.
Zum Glück gelang es ihnen noch, es in den
Hotelkomplex einzugliedern.

The God’s Eye - a Thorn in the Side
Mayor Deiml’s descendants in about 1730 had another house built on their piece of land in front of
the Saxon Hall. They called it the God’s Eye. And
it was the God’s Eye that was the thorn in the side
of several generations of the Pupps. Its location
was very attractive and it complicated their further
plans. But it was only in 1936, on the eve of World
War II, that they managed to win the “problematic”
God’s Eye at auction. Fortunately, they had enough
time to make it a part of the hotel complex.

Another Stage of Development
In 1862 a congress of natural scientists and doctors
was held in Karlovy Vary. Heinrich Pupp offered
the town to build a wooden pavilion for the congress on his piece of land behind the Bohemian
Hall. Heinrich Pupp bought the pavilion - what
would it have been good for after the congress? He
converted it to a concert and café hall, the famous
Cafésalon. In 1873 a new Cafésalon Pupp with verandas was built in its place. The building ceased to
exist in 1905 because it was right here that the construction of the Festive Hall started.

V r. 1862 se v Karlových Varech konal přírodovědecký a lékařský kongres. Heinrich Pupp nabídl
městu, aby na jeho pozemku za Českým sálem postavilo pro kongres dřevěný pavilon. Brzy nato jej
získal pro sebe, protože co s ním po kongresu?
Upravil jej na koncertní a kavárenský sál, slavný
Cafésalon. R. 1873 byl na jeho místě postaven nový Cafésalon Pupp s verandami. Objekt dosloužil
v r. 1905, neboť právě zde byla zahájena výstavba
Slavnostního sálu.

Im Jahre 1862 fand in Karlsbad ein naturwissenschaftlicher und medizinischer Kongreß statt.
Heinrich Pupp bat der Stadt an, dass sie auf seinem

hölzernen Pavillon für den Kongreß erbauen
konnte. Heinrich Pupp hat kurz danach den
Pavillon gewonnen, denn - was mit ihm nach dem
Kongreß? Er baute ihn zu einem Konzert- und
Cafésaal – den berühmten Cafésalon - um. Im Jahre
1873 wurde an seiner Stelle ein neuer Cafésalon
Pupp mit Veranden gebaut. Das Gebäude diente im
Jahre 1905 aus, denn gerade hier wurde der Bau
des Festsaals eröffnet.

Vezměte si s sebou
Dnešní podoba Grandhotelu Pupp je z velké části výsledkem smělé přestavby na přelomu 20. století. Postavíme-li se zády k řece na náměstíčko
před hotelem, máme po pravé ruce Zlatou harfu:
dodnes tam na harfu hraje andělíček v rohovém
výklenku pod střechou. Fronta Grandhotelu přímo proti nám, ta se zdobnými balkony, stojí
v místech dřívějšího Saského sálu. Ten byl o dvě
patra nižší a také kratší.
V levém rohu náměstíčka, kde je dnes kavárna
Pupp, stával dům Boží oko. Jdeme-li podél Teplé
až k parkovišti a postavíme-li se zády k řece, vidíme vpravo mohutnou secesní hotelovou budovu.
V jejím přízemí je Grandrestaurant, Zrcadlový sál,
kavárna a bar Rendez-vous s kulečníkovou hernou. Koncem 19. století stál právě na tomto místě Český sál.
Přímo před námi je pseudobarokní budova Slavnostního sálu. Předtím zde stál patrový Cafésalon.
Všimneme si bohatého štukování a soch na fasádě. Můžeme také najít portréty čtvrté generace
Puppů - Antona, Juliuse a Heinricha. Vlevo od budovy Slavnostního sálu vidíme jihovýchodní křídlo hotelového komplexu.
A teď již jistě toužíme po nějakém občerstvení - třeba v Café Pupp, nebo v baru Rendez-vous. Ani
v Malé dvoraně se špatně nesedí, co říkáte?

des ehemaligen Sächsischen Saals. Der war zwei
Stockwerke niedriger und auch kürzer.
In der linken Ecke des kleinen Platzes, wo sich
heute das Café Pupp befindet, stand einst das
Haus Gottes Auge. Wenn Sie den Tepl Fluss entlang bis zum Parkplatz gehen und sich mit dem
Rücken zu dem Fluss stellen, sehen Sie rechts die
große Jugendstilhotelfront. In dem Erdgeschoss
befinden sich das Grandrestaurant, der Spiegelsaal, das Café, die Bar Rendez-vous mit dem
Billardzimmer. Vor der Renovierung des Hotels
am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts stand gerade hier
der Böhmische Saal.
Direkt vor Ihnen ist das Pseudobarockgebäude
des Festsaals. Vorher stand hier der einstöckige
Cafésalon. Widmen Sie Ihre Aufmerksamkeit dem
reichen Stuckwerk und den Statuen auf der
Fassade. Sie können hier auch Porträte der vierten Generation der Pupps finden - Anton, Julius
und Heinrich. Links von dem Gebäude des
Festsaals sehen Sie den südöstlichen Flügel des
Hotelkomplexes.
Jetzt sehnen Sie sich sicher nach Erfrischung - vielleicht im Café Pupp oder in der Bar Rendez-vous.
Aber auch die Kleine Halle (Malá dvorana) ist ein
angenehmer Platz zum Ausruhen, nicht wahr?
The God’s Eye House used to stand in the left corner of the small square where today the Café
Pupp can be seen. If you go along the Teplá River
as far as the car park and turn your back to the river, you can see the big Art Nouveau hotel facade
on the right. There are the Grandrestaurant, the
Mirror Hall and the Rendez-vous bar with a billiards room on its ground floor. The Bohemian
Hall stood right here before the renovation at the
end of the 19th century.
The pseudo Baroque building of the Festive Hall
is right in front of you. In earlier times the two-storey Cafésalon stood here. Pay attention to rich stuccowork and the statues on the facade. You can
also find portraits of the fourth generation of the
Pupps - Anton, Julius and Heinrich. The southwestern wing of the hotel complex can be seen to
the left of the building of the Festive Hall.
Now you must be longing for some refreshment maybe in the Café Pupp or in the bar Rendezvous. And the Small Hall (Malá dvorana) is very
pleasant, too, isn’t it?

The present appearance of the Grandhotel Pupp
is from a greater part the result of its bold renovation at the end of the 19th century. If you stand
on a small square in front of the hotel and turn
your back to the river, the Golden Harp House is
on your right: a small angel in the corner niche
under the roof has been playing the harp up to
these days. The facade of the Grandhotel, the one
with ornamental balconies, stands where the former Saxon Hall used to stand in the past. It was
two floors lower and shorter, too.

Giacomo Casanova
Muž, jehož jméno se stalo synonymem pro svůdce
Rok 1785 není památný pouze tím, že v něm
poprvé navštívil Karlovy Vary básník J.W.
Goethe, ale připomínáme si ho také jako
rok první návštěvy
muže poněkud odlišného naturelu, známého italského milovníka žen a života,
spisovatele-filozofa,
diplomata a svobodného zednáře Giacoma
Casanovy. Důvod jeho návštěvy není zcela jasný.
Můžeme se dohadovat, zda motivem pobytu
Casanovy v Karlových Varech byla potřeba získání
peněz z důvodu finanční tísně, tedy vyhledání bohatých přátel, nebo načerpání inspirace, či milostná
dobrodružství. V letní sezóně v tehdejším divadle
u Českého sálu hostovali mimo jiných i italští herci
a pěvci. Nemohli bychom se divit, kdyby tu
Casanovu drželo pouto k okruhu italských hereček. U muže takového formátu se však dá předpokládat, že se snažil využít návštěvy města ve
všech ohledech. Dalším důvodem mohlo být setkání se zástupci bohaté aristokracie, kteří se v tomto roce v Karlových Varech vyskytovali v hojném
počtu, a snaha získat u některého z nich vhodné
zaměstnání. To se mu však tentokrát nezdařilo. Až
později získal náklonnost hraběte Valdštejna, jenž
mu na svém zámku v Duchcově poskytl místo knihovníka. Casanova se podle německých historiků
do Karlových Varů ještě několikrát vrátil, doprovázeje hraběte Valdštejna. Cesta z Duchcova totiž
nebyla daleká. Přestože bylo Casanovi během jeho první návštěvy už šedesát let, můžeme si snadno představit, jak jeho nezpochybnitelný šarm září
v kruhu dam na večírcích v Saském i Českém sále.
Casanova si velmi oblíbil Dorothein altán ležící
v krásné přírodní partii údolí řeky Teplé za Českým sálem. Tato půvabná klasicistní stavba působí silnou romantickou atmosférou. Těžko ji mohl
někdo ocenit více, než právě legendární ctitel žen
Giacomo Casanova.

Das Jahr 1785 ist nicht nur darum denkwürdig,
dass in ihm das erste Mal Karlsbad der Dichter
J.W. Goethe besuchte, sondern man erinnert es
als das Jahr des ersten Besuchs eines Mannes etwas anderen Charakters, des bekannten italienischen Frauen- und Lebensliebhabers, des Schriftstellers, Philosophen, Diplomaten und Freimaurer
Giacomo Casanova. Der Grund seines Besuches

ist nicht ganz klar. Man kann streiten, ob das
Motiv von Casanovas Aufenthalt in Karlsbad
Geldbesorgung aufgrund finanzieller Not war, also reiche Freunde zu suchen, oder Inspiration zu
schöpfen, oder ein Liebesabenteuer. In der
Sommersaison gastierten im damaligen Theater
am Böhmischen Saal außer anderen auch italienische Schauspieler und Sänger. Man könnte sich
nicht wundern, wenn hier Casanova eine italienische Schauspielerin fesselte. Bei einem Mann
von solchem Format kann man aber annehmen,
dass er sich bemühte den Stadtbesuch in jeder
Rücksicht zu nutzen. Ein weiterer Grund konnte
das Treffen mit den Vertretern der reichen
Aristokratie sein, die sich dieses Jahr in Karlsbad
zahlreich aufhielt, und die Bemühung bei jemanden von ihnen eine geeignete Anstellung zu erwerben. Das gelang ihm diesmal aber nicht. Erst
später gewann er die Zuneigung des Grafen
Wallenstein, der ihm auf seinem Schloss in Dux
eine Stelle als Bibliothekar gab. Casanova kehrte
laut deutscher Historiker nach Karlsbad noch einige Mal, als Begleitung von Graf Wallenstein.
Der Weg aus Dux war nämlich nicht weit. Obwohl
Casanova während seines ersten Besuches bereits
sechzig Jahre alt war, kann man sich leicht vorstellen, wie sein unzweifelbarer Scharm im Umkreis der Damen auf das Gesellschaftsabenden im
Sächsischen sowie Böhmischen Saal strahlte.
Casanova hatte den Dorothea Altan sehr gern, der
in schöner Natur des Tepltals hinter dem
Böhmischen Saal liegt. Dieser zierliche klassizistische Bau kann sich mit einer starken romantischen Atmosphäre rühmen. Schwer konnte ihn
jemand anderer mehr schätzen, als gerade der legendäre Frauenverehrer Giacomo Casanova.

that he got the favour of Count of Wallenstein
who offered him the job of a librarian in his chateau in Duchcov. In German historians’ opinion
Casanova returned to Karlovy Vary several times
when he was accompanying Count of Wallenstein.
It was not a long way from Duchcov to Karlovy
Vary. In spite of the fact that Casanova was already
sixty years old during his first visit, we can imagine
him easily dazzling ladies at the parties in both the
Saxon Hall and the Bohemian Hall by his indisputable charm. Casanova became fond of the
Dorothea Summerhouse standing in a beautiful
part of the valley of the Teplá River behind the
Bohemian Hall. This wonderful classicist structure
boasts a strong romantic atmosphere. Hardly anybody could appreciate it more than the legendary
admirer of women Giacomo Casanova.

The year 1785 is not notable only because it is
the year in which the poet J.W. Goethe visited
Karlovy Vary for the first time. We also remember
it as the year of the first visit of a man of a rather
different nature, the famous Italian admirer of women and lover of life, the writer and philosopher,
diplomat and a Freemason Giacomo Casanova.
The reason of his visit is not quite clear. We cannot but guess if Casanova came to Karlovy Vary
because he was in dire straits and needed money,
i.e. he came to find some rich friends, or if he
wanted to draw some inspiration from his stay or
if he looked for romances. Apart from others,
Italian actors and singers, too, played in the local
theatre as guests in the summer season. No won-

Boží Dar je se svými 1028 metry nad mořem nejvýše položeným městem ve střední Evropě. Leží v západní části Krušných Hor u hranic s Německem.
Městečko je z Karlových Varů snadno dosažitelné
a nabízí řadu ubytovacích a restauračních kapacit.
Boží Dar je zároveň nejvýznamnější středisko zimních sportů v Krušných Horách. V lyžařském
areálu Neklid můžou návštěvníci využít půjčovny
lyží a snowboardů, školy lyžování i prostorné parkoviště. Sjezdovky jsou lehce až středně obtížné
a jsou vybaveny vleky o délce 300 - 1000 m. Pro
snowboardisty je tu připraven snowpark. Na své
si přijdou i milovníci běžeckého lyžování, pro které je upravováno přibližně 70 km tras. Náročnějším sjezdovým lyžařům se nabízí možnost využít
četných sjezdovek na svazích přilehlého Klínovce,
na který se mohou z Božího Daru dostat pomocí
skibusu. Na vrchol Klínovce, nejvyššího vrcholu
Krušných Hor (1244 m), vedou dvě sedačkové
lanovky, jedna ze severní, druhá z jižní strany. Téměř
všechny klínovecké sjezdovky leží na severní straně
hory, ale odvážnějším lyžařům by neměla uniknout náročná trasa vedoucí z vrcholu Klínovce
pod lanovkou na jižní straně. Ta bývá využívána
i v létě, neboť je zde vybudována trasa pro sjezdová kola. Jezdí se zde i mistrovství republiky v této
sportovní disciplíně.
Do blízkých hor můžete tedy z Karlových Varů vyjet
jak za sportovním vyžitím, tak za kouzelnou atmosférou horského městečka i za odpolední procházkou, ukončenou posezením nad sklenkou
horkého punče.

po silnici 25 přes Jáchymov na Boží Dar, 29 km.

Boží Dar ist mit seinen 1028 Metern Seehöhe die
höchstgelegene Stadt in Mitteleuropa. Es liegt in
dem westlichen Teil des Erzgebirges an der
Grenze zu Deutschland. Das Städtchen ist aus
Karlsbad leicht erreichbar und bietet eine Reihe
Unterkunfts- und Verpflegungskapazitäten. Boží
Dar ist zugleich das bedeutendste Wintersportzentrum im Erzgebirge. Im Skiareal Neklid können die Besucher den Ski- und Snowboardverleih
nutzen, die Skischule, sowie einen großen
Parkplatz. Die Skipisten sind leichten bis mittleren
Schwierigkeitsgrades und sind mit Skiliften von
Längen 300 - 1000 m ausgestattet. Für Snowboardfahrer steht ein Snowpark zur Verfügung. Auf seine
Kosten kommen auch die Langlaufliebhaber, für
die ungefähr 70 km Loipen hergerichtet werden.
Die anspruchvollen Skifahrer können die zahlreichen Skipisten auf den Hängen des in der Nähe liegenden Klínovec nutzen, wohin man aus Boží Dar
mit Hilfe von einem Skibus kommen kann. Auf
den Gipfel von Klínovec, den höchsten Berg im
Erzgebirge (1244 m), führen zwei Seilbahnen, eine von der Nord-, die andere von der Südseite.
Fast alle Skipisten am Klínovec liegen auf der
Nordseite, aber den mutigsten Skifahrern sollte
die anspruchvolle Strecke, die vom Gipfel des
Klínovec unter der Seilbahn auf der Südseite
führt, nicht entgehen. Sie wird auch im Sommer
genutzt, denn hier ist eine Strecke für Downhill errichtet. Es findet hier auch die Landesmeisterschaft
in dieser Sportdisziplin statt.
Ins nahe Gebirge können Sie also aus Karlsbad
sowohl zum Sport, als auch zur zauberhaften
Atmosphäre eines Bergstädtchens, sowie zum Nachmittagsspaziergang, abgeschlossen mit Verweilen
am Glas heißen Punsch, fahren.
Mit dem Auto: Straße 13 Richtung Ostrov, von hier
aus weiter die Straße 25 über Jáchymov nach
Boží Dar, 29 km.
Mit dem Bus: Vom Unteren Bahnhof Richtung
Boží Dar ungefähr jede zwei Stunden.

Boží Dar and Klínovec
Boží Dar with its elevation of 1,028 metres above
sea level is the highest located town in central
Europe. It is situated in the western part of the
Ore Mountains near the border with Germany.
The little town can be reached from Karlovy Vary
easily and it offers lots of accommodation and catering capacities. At the same time Boží Dar is the
most important winter resort in the Ore
Mountains. Visitors to the ski grounds Neklid can
make use of a ski and snowboard hire, attend the
school of skiing and park their cars in a large car
park. Ski slopes are suitable for beginners or medium-good skiers and are equipped with ski lifts
that are from 300 to 1,000 metres long. There is
a snow park for snowboarders here too. About 70
kilometres of tracks are kept here for lovers of
cross-country skiing. Good downhill skiers can
make use of the numerous ski tracks on the hillsides of the close Klínovec Hill. A ski bus from Boží
Dar will take them to its top. The top of Klínovec,
the highest hill of the Ore Mountains (1,244m),
can also be reached by means of two chair lifts from the northern side and from the southern side.
Almost all ski slopes on Klínovec are located on
its northern hillside but there is also one which
runs from the top of Klínovec under the ski lift in
the south. As it is quite arduous, it is suitable only
for really good and courageous skiers. It is also
used in the summer as there is a path for downhill
bikers here. The national championship in this
sports event is held here.
So you can leave Karlovy Vary and go to the near
mountains either to get the enjoyment of sport or
to experience the charming atmosphere of a little
town or just to take an afternoon walk which can
finish over a glass of punch in some of local pubs.
By car: Road No.13 in the direction of Ostrov,
from here along road No. 25 through Jáchymov
to Boží Dar, 29 km.
By bus: From the Lower Railway Station in the
direction of Boží Dar, every two hours.

Ein Teil des Thermalwassers aus dem Reservoir der
Unteren Schlossbrunnquelle wird in einen kleinen
Pavillon zugeleitet, der über dieser „neuen“ Quelle
im Jahre 1912 gebaut wurde. Als im Jahre 1911 der
Ausbau der Schlossbrunnkolonnade vorbereitet wurde,
machte der damalige Leiter des Karlsbader Stadtquellamtes Robert Kampe dem Autor des Bauprojektes, dem Wiener Architekten Ohmann, einen interessanten Vorschlag. Seine Idee war, einen kleinen Teil
des Wassers aus der Unteren Schlossbrunnquelle auf
ein um einige Meter höheres Niveau hinauszuführen.
Nach den physikalischen Gesetzen ist das Gemisch
von Wasser und Gas leichter als Wasser. Im Falle der
Karlsbader Quellen bedeutet es, dass die Druckhöhe
von jeder von ihnen von der Menge des im Thermalwasser erhaltenen gasförmigen Kohlendioxid abhängig ist. In diesem Falle führte man durch ein sehr enges Röhrchen Thermalwasser mit einem hohen Inhalt
des Kohlendioxides (etwa 1 l/min). Das Thermalwasser wurde aus dem Quellreservoir der Unteren
Schlossbrunnquelle bis zum Pavillon der Oberen
Schlossbrunnquelle geführt. Dieses technische Spiel
hatte noch einen Effekt: Die Temperatur des
Thermalwassers in der Rohrleitung sank und damit
erhöhte sich die Löslichkeit des Kohlendioxides. Die
Temperatur sank hier unter 50°C und der Inhalt des
gelösten Kohlendioxides stieg bis zu 763 mg/l
(Vergleichen Sie: Die Temperatur der Unteren
Schlossbrunnquelle war 62,3°C und der Inhalt des
Kohlendioxides betrug 660 mg/l).
Die Obere Schlossbrunnquelle gehörte zu den zwölf
Karlsbader Thermalquellen, die man für die Trinkkur
benutzte. So kannten sie Generationen von Kurgästen.
A part of the thermal water from the reservoir of
the Lower Castle Spring is diverted to a small pavilion which was built over this “new” spring in
1912. When the construction of the Castle
Colonnade was being prepared in 1911, the head
of the Karlovy Vary Spring Office, Robert Kampe,
made an interesting suggestion to the author of
the building project, the architect Ohmann from
Vienna. His idea was to bring a small part of water from the Lower Castle Spring to a level which
would have been several metres higher. The mixture of water and gas is lighter than water according to physical laws. It means in the case of
Karlovy Vary springs that the delivery height of
each of them depends on the amount of gaseous
carbon dioxide which the thermal water contains.
In this case a very narrow pipe was used. Thermal
water with a very high amount of carbon dioxide
(about 1 litre/min) was led through it from the
Lower Castle Spring as far as the pavilion of the
Upper Castle Spring. This technical “innovation“
had another effect: the final values of the “new“
spring differed considerably from the original
source. The explanation is easy: during its way
through the pipes the temperature of the thermal
water sinks and the solubility of carbon dioxide
increases. In the case of the Castle Spring the temperature sank below 50°C and the amount of dissolved carbon dioxide rose to 763 mg/l. (Compare:
the temperature of the Lower Castle Spring was
62,3°C and it contained 660 mg CO2/l).
The Upper Castle Spring ranked among the twelve
springs which were used in the drinking cure.

Část termální vody z jímky Dolního Zámeckého
pramene je přivedena až do pavilonku, který byl
nad tímto „novým“ pramenem postaven v roce
1912. Když byla připravována výstavba Zámecké
kolonády (1911), navrhl tehdejší přednosta karlovarského městského Pramenního úřadu Robert
Kampe autorovi projektu, vídeňskému architektovi
prof. Ohmannovi využít zajímavý nápad - vyvést
malou část vody Dolního Zámeckého pramene na
úroveň o několik metrů vyšší. Podle fyzikálních zákonů je směs vody a plynu lehčí než voda. V případě karlovarských pramenů to znamená, že výtlačná výška každého z nich je závislá právě na
množství plyného CO2, který spolu s termální vodou vyvěrá. V tomto případě byl úzkou trubičkou
vyveden asi litr za minutu silně proplyněné termální vody z pramenní jímky Dolního Zámeckého pramene až do pavilónku Horního Zámeckého pramene. Tato technická hříčka měla ještě jeden efekt:
výsledné hodnoty „nového“ pramene se značně lišily od původního zdroje. Při této cestě totiž dochází k ochlazení vody a tím opět ke zvýšení rozpustnosti CO2 ve vodě. Teplota zde klesla pod 50°C
a obsah volného rozpuštěného CO2 stoupl na 763
mg/l. (Pro srovnání: Dolní Zámecký pramen při
teplotě 62,3°C měl 660 mg CO2/l.)
Horní Zámecký pramen byl brzy zařazen mezi dvanáct pramenů karlovarské pitné kúry a jako takový
jej znaly generace našich pacientů.

nutzen. Für Ihren Komfort und Behaglichkeit rekonstruieren wir die Lobby und Malá dvorana, zu
kleinen Änderungen kommt es auch im Grandrestaurant und im Spiegelsaal. Die neue Auffassung der Lobby spiegelt die mehr als dreihundertjährige Geschichte, durch die das Grandhotel
Pupp seit dem Jahre 1701 wandelte wieder.
Stuck, Bilder, Lichter – das alles soll die Atmosphäre der Zeit, als hier Goethe, Paganini, Franz
Josef I. ... verweilten, unterstützen.
