Die Regionen Jablonec und Îelezn˘ Brod
verbindet nicht nur ihre nahe Nachbarschaft, sondern auch die Flüsse – Kamenice/Kamnitz und
Jizera/Iser. Der größere von beiden verlieh dem Gebirge, zu dessen Füßen sich beide Regionen ausbreiten seinen Namen – Isergebirge. Es sind nicht nur die Naturschönheiten, welche die Besucher
in diese Region locken, sondern auch der Zauber der traditionellen Bijouterie und des Glases, die
beide Gegenden gemein haben. Um Ihnen die Orientierung in diesen beiden Branchen zu erleichtern, haben wir diesen Katalog für sie vorbereitet.
Ein ähnliches Hilfsmittel erschien das letzte Mal vor drei Jahren. Im Unterschied zur zurückliegenden Ausgabe führen wir die Regionen Jablonec nad Nisou und Îelezn˘ Brod diesmal getrennt
an. Wir möchten Interessenten die Suche erleichtern und dabei auch die Eigenarten beider
Regionen respektieren.
In beiden Teilen sind die Firmen alphabetisch geordnet. Nähere Informationen zu einigen von
ihnen sind in der Rubrik Gezahlte Anzeigenwerbung auf Seite 45–70 zu finden. Dieser Anzeigenteil

The Jablonec and Îelezn˘ Brod areas
are not only connected by their proximity, but also by two rivers; the Kamenice and the Jizera.
The Jizera Mountains, in whose foothills both areas are located, have been named after the larger
of these two rivers. Visitors are attracted to the area by the natural beauty, but also by the magic of
the traditional costume jewellery and glass which both areas have in common. We have prepared
this catalogue in order to enable you to better orient yourself in these areas.
A similar guide was last published three years ago. Unlike in the previous edition, we have presented the Jablonec nad Nisou and Îelezn˘ Brod areas separately this time. In doing so, we hope to
make it easier for readers to find the required information and we have tried to respect the unique
features of each area.

Jablonec nad Nisou
Jablonec nad Nisou leÏí na úpatí Jizersk˘ch hor. Má rozlohu 31,38 km2, nadmofiskou v˘‰ku 380–758 m
a Ïije v nûm pfies 45 000 obyvatel. První zmínka pochází z roku 1356. V té dobû do oblasti pfiicházeli ãe‰tí
a nûmeãtí kolonisté. V prÛbûhu patnáctého století byla bûhem kfiiÏáckého taÏení fiada vesnic v této oblasti
vypálena, mezi nimi i Jablonec. Ke znovuosidlování pfieváÏnû nûmeck˘mi kolonisty do‰lo v polovinû ‰estnáctého století. V roce 1548 byla zaloÏena sklárna ve M‰enû, kterou pozdûji vlastnili Wanderové a Schürerové, spoleãnû s Preusslery nejv˘znamûj‰í skláfi‰tí podnikatelé v Jizersk˘ch horách 16. a 17. století.
V 18. století zaãaly sklárny postupovat dále do hor za potfiebn˘m dfievem. Do této doby také spadá zrod
a rychl˘ vzestup skláfiské dynastie RiedelÛ, skláfisk˘ch králÛ Jizersk˘ch hor. S jejich jménem je spojen zaãátek velkov˘roby biÏuterie v kraji. Pozdûji se úspû‰nû vûnovali osvûtlovadlÛm, technickému sklu ãi textilnímu
podnikání.
V prÛbûhu 19. století se Jablonec stal svûtovû respektovan˘m skláfisk˘m a biÏuterním centrem. Po pov˘‰ení na mûstys v roce 1808 následovalo roku 1866 udûlení statutu mûsta. Jablonec tehdy patfiil mezi
deset nejvût‰ích mûst v âechách a roãnû do nûj zavítaly desetitisíce cizincÛ ze v‰ech kontinentÛ, pfieváÏnû
kupcÛ biÏuterie. Na podporu rozvoje biÏuterního prÛmyslu byla v roce 1880 zaloÏena ¤emeslná kreslífiská,
modelérská a cizelérská ‰kola v Jablonci nad Nisou. Jablonecku se v té dobû zaãalo pfiezdívat „rakouská
Kalifornie“, jen místo zlat˘ch zrn zde pfiíchozí hledali sklenûné „diamanty“. K této dobû se váÏí i zaãátky pÛsobení úspû‰ného inovátora v˘roby brou‰en˘ch sklenûn˘ch kamenÛ a obchodníka svûtového jména Daniela
Swarovskiho, kter˘ pochází z Jizersk˘ch hor. Rozvoj se stále zrychloval a ve mûstû na Nise brzy vyrostly plynárna (1872), elektrárna (1891) ãi tramvajová linka (1901).
A zÛstalo tomu tak i po roce 1989, kdy monopolní státní podniky nahradili ãetní velcí i malí podnikatelé,
ktefií dále den co den pí‰í nové kapitoly do pfiíbûhu hrdého mûsta skla a biÏuterie s jabloní ve znaku.
Prezentaci biÏuterní a skláfiské tvorby se ve mûstû nad Nisou dlouhodobû vûnuje nûkolik kulturních zafiízení. V˘jimeãné postavení v rámci âeské republiky má specializované Muzeum skla a biÏuterie, jehoÏ zfiizovatelem je Ministerstvo kultury âR. Názvy interaktivních expozic Kouzeln˘ svût biÏuterie, âarovná zahrada
– âeské sklo sedmi století (v Hlavní budovû) a ·perk tfií tisíciletí – Vûãná touha po kráse (v Galerii Belveder),
vyjadfiují magickou pfiitaÏlivost skla, biÏuterie a ‰perkÛ. Kromû stál˘ch expozic se v muzeu konají tématické
a autorské v˘stavy, k nimÏ vydává vícejazyãné kniÏní publikace a katalogy. Od roku 2008 muzeum, zaloÏené
roku 1904 právû s cílem podpory místní biÏuterní a umûleckofiemeslné v˘roby, pofiádá mezinárodní trienále
zamûfiené dosud zejména na propagaci biÏuterie. K nejúspû‰nûj‰ím projektÛm posledních let patfiila v˘stava Sklenûné vánoãní ozdoby – minulost, souãasnost, vize (2010/2011). Souãástí instituce je téÏ vefiejná
odborná knihovna s unikátním fondem oborové a vlastivûdné literatury.

V roce 2012 slaví dvacáté v˘roãí pÛsobení Mûstská galerie MY. Jde o nevelké a velmi aktivní v˘stavní zafiízení, úzce spolupracující s mûstem i obãansk˘mi iniciativami (napfi. Spolkem pfiátel mûsta Jablonce n. N.).
Posledních patnáct let vyuÏívá zajímav˘ prostor v parteru radniãní budovy v centru mûsta. Ve své ãinnosti
se programovû vûnuje nûkolika tématick˘m oblastem: hlavním zájmem kurátora je pfiedev‰ím tvorba místních v˘tvarníkÛ, a to jak souãasn˘ch, tak i tûch zapomenut˘ch ãi v minulosti zámûrnû opomíjen˘ch. Pozornost vûnuje i lokálním fenoménÛm jako je umûleckoprÛmyslová ‰kola, spolky, umûlecko-fiemeslná v˘roba,
medailérství a mincovnictví, umûní ve vefiejném prostoru, architektura, mûstská symbolika.

Velkolepû zaãalo i 20. století, kdyÏ jen za rok 1911 odevzdali jabloneãtí podnikatelé na daních habsburské monarchii totéÏ, co celá korunní zemû Dalmácie. Svûtová válka v˘robû i obchodu pfiistfiihla kfiídla,
ale v novém státû ji následovala velkolepá konjunktura, kdy se jen v Jablonci a okolí obchodu s biÏuterií vûnovalo témûfi 700 firem! Ekonomická krize 30. let a následná svûtová válka v‰ak karty zamíchaly jinak. Léta
1945 a 1948 znamenala nástup nové reality. Pfiesto se v‰ak postupnû podafiilo Jablonci vrátit pozici v˘znamného svûtového dodavatele biÏuterie. V˘robû se vûnoval státní koncern Jablonecká biÏuterie, v˘vozu
Jablonex, vzniklo muzeum s celostátní pÛsobností, pofiádaly se mezinárodní v˘stavy a mûsto zaãalo znovu d˘chat. PfiestoÏe sklo a biÏuterie jiÏ nebyly jeho jedinou devízou, zÛstaly nepominutelnou souãástí jeho identity.
Obraz kamenn˘ch v˘stavních zafiízení v Jablonci nad Nisou doplÀuje univerzitní Galerie N. Byla otevfiena v roce 2002 jako zafiízení Katedry designu Fakulty textilní Technické univerzity v Liberci. Vzdu‰n˘ prostor
v b˘valé pomocné divadelní budovû ãasto hostí biÏuterní i skláfiské v˘tvarníky. Z jeho povahy vypl˘vá, Ïe má
zájmy více experimentální, jejichÏ cílem je pfiiná‰et vefiejnosti netradiãní, hravé i pfiekvapivé pohledy na tradiãní materiály. Kromû pravideln˘ch pfiehlídek semestrálních studentsk˘ch prací se ve v˘stavním programu
objevují absolventi, pedagogové i podnûtné osobnosti z republiky i zahraniãí.

Jablonec nad Nisou
Die Stadt Jablonec nad Nisou (Gablonz an der Neiße) liegt zu Füßen des Isergebirges. Die Stadt mit
ihren über 45 000 Einwohnern breitet sich auf 31,38 km2 aus und liegt in einer Höhe von 380–758 m über
dem Meeresspiegel. Eine erste Erwähnung stammt aus dem Jahre 1356. Zu jener Zeit kamen böhmische und
deutschen Kolonisten in diese Gegend. Im 15. Jahrhundert wurden während der Kreuzzüge zahlreiche
Dörfer in dieser Gegend niedergebrannt, auch Jablonec/Gablonz blieb nicht von diesem Schicksal
verschont. Zu einer Neubesiedlung durch überwiegend deutsche Kolonisten kam es erst zur Mitte des 16.
Jahrhunderts. Im Jahre1548 wurde die Glasfabrik in M‰eno (Grünwald an der Neiße) gegründet, die später
in Besitz der Familien Wander und Schürer war – gemeinsam mit den Preussler’s die namhaftesten
Glasunternehmer im Isergebirge im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert.
Im 18. Jahrhundert zogen die Glasfabriken wegen des enormen Holzbedarfs immer höher in die Berge.
In diese Zeit fällt auch die Entstehung und der rasche Aufstieg der Dynastie der Familie Riedel – der
„Glaskönige des Isergebirges“. Gerade mit ihrem Namen ist die Großproduktion von Bijouterie in dieser
Gegend verbunden. Später widmeten sie sich erfolgreich der Herstellung von Lichtapparaten, technischem
Glas sowie der Textilherstellung.
Im Laufe des 19. Jahrhunderts stieg Jablonec (Gablonz) zu einem respektierten Zentrum der Glas- und
Bijouterieherstellung auf. Nach der Erhöhung zum Marktflecken im Jahre 1808 wurde Gablonz im Jahre
1866 das Statut einer Stadt erteilt. Was mehr – Gablonz gehörte damals zu den zehn größten Städten in
Böhmen – Jahr für Jahr besuchten sie Zehntausende Ausländer, vor allem Bijouteriehändlern aus aller
Welt. Zur Unterstützung des Bijouteriegewerbes wurde im Jahre 1880 die sog. Gewerbliche Zeichen-,
Modellier- und Ziselierschule in Gablonz a. N. gegründet. Die Region Gablonz wurde damals „österreichisches
Kalifornien“ genannt, nur dass man hier nicht nach Goldkörnern, sondern nach „gläsernen Diamanten“
suchte. Mit jener Zeit sind auch die Anfänge des erfolgreichen Innovatoren der Herstellung geschliffener
Glassteine und weltbekannten Geschäftsmannes Daniel Swarovsk˘ verbunden, der aus dem Isergebirge
stammt. Der Aufschwung wurde immer dynamischer und schon bald wurden an der Neiße ein Gaswerk
(1872), ein Elektrizitätswerk (1891) aber auch eine Straßenbahnlinie gebaut (1901).
Nicht minder großartig begann auch das 20. Jahrhundert – man bedenke, dass die Gablonzer
Unternehmer der Habsburger Monarchie allein für das Jahr 1911 die gleichen Steuern abzuführen hatten,
wie das gesamte Kronland Dalmatien. Der erste Weltkrieg stutzte Handel und Produktion die Flügel, aber
der Kriegszeit folgte – nun schon im neuen Staat – eine großartige Konjunktur auf den Fuß, als sich allein
Jablonec/Gablonz nahezu 700 Firmen dem Bijouteriegeschäft widmeten. Die Weltwirtschaftskrise in den
30er Jahren und der anschließende 2. Weltkrieg mischten noch einmal ordentlich die Karten. Die Jahre
1945 und 1948 brachten neue Realitäten. Dennoch gelang es Jablonec nach und nach, seine Position als
weltbekannter Bijouterie-Lieferant zurückzugewinnen. Der staatliche Konzern „Jablonecká biÏuterie“ widmete
sich der Herstellung, der Betrieb „Jablonex“ übernahm den Export, man gründete ein Museum mit ganzstaatlichem Wirkungskreis und veranstaltete internationale Ausstellungen – die Stadt lebte wieder auf.
Obwohl Glas und Bijouterie nicht mehr die einzige Devise der Stadt waren, waren sie dennoch weiterhin
unentbehrlicher Teil seiner Identität. Und das blieb auch nach 1989 so, als die monopolistischen Staatsbetriebe durch zahlreiche große und kleine Unternehmen ersetzt wurden, die auch heute Tag für Tag neue
Kapitel der Geschichte der stolzen Glas- und Bijouteriestadt mit dem Apfelbäumchen im Wappen schreiben.
Der Präsentation der Glas- und Bijouteriekunst widmen sich in der Neißestadt gleich mehrere
Kultureinrichtungen. Eine Ausnahmestellung im Rahmen der Tschechischen Republik kommt hierbei dem
spezialisierten Museum für Glas und Bijouterie zu, dessen Gründer kein geringerer als das Tschechische
Kultusministerium ist. Allein schon die Namen der interaktiven Ausstellungen „Zauberhafte Welt der
Bijouterie“, „Zaubergarten – Böhmisches Glas aus sieben Jahrhunderten“ (im Hauptgebäude) und „Schmuck
dreier Jahrtausende – der ewige Wunsch nach Schönheit“ (in der Galerie Belveder), widerspiegeln die
magische Anziehungskraft von Glas, Bijouterie und Schmuck. Außer diesen Dauerausstellungen finden

jedoch auch thematische und Autorenausstellungen statt,
zu denen mehrsprachige Buchpublikationen und Kataloge
herausgegeben werden. Seit 2008 veranstaltet das
Museum, das 1904 gerade in der Absicht gegründet wurde,
die Bijouterieherstellung und das Kunstgewerbe in diesem
Landstrich zu fördern, eine Triennale, die bisher namentlich
zur Propagierung der Bijouterie dient. Zu den erfolgreichsten Projekten der letzten Jahre gehörte die Ausstellung
„Gläserner Christbaumschmuck – Vergangenheit, Gegenwart
und Visionen“ (2010/2011). Teil der Institution ist auch
eine öffentliche Fachbibliothek mit einem einzigartigen Fonds
an branchenspezifischer und heimatkundlicher Literatur.
Im Jahre 2012 feiert auch die Städtische Galerie MY das
zwanzigste Jubiläum ihres Bestehens. Es geht hierbei um
eine nicht große, jedoch äußerst agile Ausstellungseinrichtung, die eng mit der Stadt, aber auch mit
Bürgerinitiativen zusammenarbeitet (u. a. mit dem Verein
der Freunde der Stadt Jablonec n. N.). In den letzten 15
Jahren nutzt sie interessante Räumlichkeiten im Erdgeschoss des Rathausgebäudes im Stadtzentrum. In seiner
Tätigkeit widmet es sich systematisch verschiedenen
Themenkreisen: das Hauptinteresse des Kurators gilt vor
allem dem Schaffen der hiesigen bildenden Künstler und
dies sowohl denen aus der Gegenwart, als auch den in
Vergessenheit geratenen oder in der Vergangenheit
wissentlich übersehenen Künstlern. Aber auch lokalen
Phänomenen, wie der Kunstgewerbeschule, verschiedenen
Vereinen, der Herstellung kunstgewerblicher Gegenstände,
der Medaillenprägung und dem Münzwesen, der Kunst im
öffentlichen Raum, der Architektur und Stadtsymbolik –
wird gebührende Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet.

Das Bild dieser „steinernen“ Ausstellungseinrichtungen
in Jablonec nad Nisou wird von der Universitätsgalerie „N“
vervollständigt. Sie wurde im Jahre 2002 als Einrichtung
des Lehrstuhls für Design der Textilfakultät an der
Technischen Universität Liberec eröffnet. Der hohe Raum
des ehemaligen Theater-Hilfsgebäudes ist häufiger Treffpunkt verschiedenster Bijouterie- und Glaskünstler. Seinem
Charakter entsprechend pflegt man hier eher experimentelle
Interessen, deren Ziel es ist, der Öffentlichkeit ungewohnte,
spielerische und überraschende Blicke auf altbewährte
Materiale zu bieten. Außer regelmäßigen Präsentationen
der Semesterarbeiten von Studenten tauchen in den
Ausstellungsprogrammen auch Absolventen, Pädagogen
und weitere inspirierende Persönlichkeiten aus dem In- und
Ausland auf.

Jablonec nad Nisou lies in the foothills of the Jizera Mountains. It has an area of 31.38 km2, an altitude above sea level of 380–758 m and it is home to more than 45,000 inhabitants. The first mention of the
settlement dates from 1356. Czech and German colonists came to the area at that time. A number of villages in this area were burnt down during the Crusade of the fifteenth century and Jablonec was among them.
The area was then resettled predominantly by German colonists in the mid-16th century. In 1548, a glassworks was established in M‰eno by the Wander and Schürer families, who, along with the Preusslers, were
the best known glass entrepreneurs in the Jizera Mountains during the 16th and 17th centuries.
In the 18th century, the glassworks began to move further into the mountains in search of the necessary supplies of wood. This period also saw the establishment and rapid rise of the Riedel glass dynasty,
the glass kings of the Jizera Mountains. The beginnings of the mass production of costume jewellery in the
region are associated with their name. They were also later successfully involved in the production of light
fittings and technical glass or the textile business.
During the course of the 19th century, Jablonec became an internationally respected glass and costume jewellery centre. After being raised to the status of a township in 1808, it was subsequently given the
status of a town in 1866. At that time, Jablonec was one of the ten largest towns in Bohemia and it played
host to tens of thousands of foreigners from all continents every year, mainly costume jewellery merchants.
The Vocational School for Drawing, Modelling and Metal Chasing School in Jablonec nad Nisou was established in 1880 to support the costume jewellery industry. At that time, the Jablonec area became known as
the “Austrian California”, but prospectors came looking for glass diamonds instead of gold. This period also saw the beginning of the activities of the successful innovator of cut glass stone production and internationally renowned merchant, Daniel Swarovski, who came from the Jizera Mountains. The development
then accelerated and the town on the Nisa soon saw the construction of a gasworks (1872), a power station (1891) and a tram line (1901).
The 20th century also began magnificently, when Jablonec businesspeople paid as much in taxes to the
Habsburg monarchy as the entire crown territory of Dalmatia. The First World War clipped the wings of production and commerce, but this was followed by a remarkable boom in the new state when almost 700 companies were involved in selling costume jewellery in Jablonec and its environs alone! However, the economic crisis of the 1930s and the subsequent Second World War significantly reshuffled the cards. 1945 and
1948 marked the start of a new reality. Despite this, however, Jablonec succeeded in reclaiming its position as a significant international supplier of costume jewellery. Production was handled by the Jablonec jewellery state enterprise, exports were the province of Jablonex, a museum with nationwide activities was
established, international exhibitions were organised and the town began to breathe again. Despite the fact
that glass and costume jewellery were no longer its sole industry, they remained an unforgettable part of
its identity. And this also remained the case after 1989, when the state enterprise monopolies were replaced with numerous small and large entrepreneurs who are continuing to write new chapters in the story of
this proud town of glass and costume jewellery with an apple tree in its coat of arms.
Several cultural institutions have long been involved in the presentation of costume jewellery and glass
art in this town on the Nisa. The specialised Museum of Glass and Costume Jewellery, which is under the
auspices of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, has an exceptional standing within the framework
of the Czech Republic. The names of the interactive exhibitions, “the Magic World of Costume Jewellery”,
the Enchanted Garden – “Seven Centuries of Czech Glass” (in the Main Building) and “Jewellery of the
Third Millennium – The Eternal Desire for Beauty” (at the Belveder Gallery), express the magical attraction
of glass, costume jewellery and jewels. As well as its permanent exhibitions, the museum also holds thematic and authorial exhibitions, for which it publishes multilingual book publications and catalogues. The
Museum, which was established in 1904 with the goal of supporting local costume jewellery and artistic
production, has held an international triennial aimed particularly at promoting costume jewellery since
2008. The most successful projects of recent years have included the exhibition of Glass Christmas
Decorations – the Past, the Present and the Vision (2010/2011). The institution also includes a public library with a unique collection of specialist and national history literature.
In 2012 the MY Town Gallery will celebrate 20 years of its existence. This is a small, but highly active
exhibition facility which works closely with the town and various citizens’ initiatives (for example, the
Association of the Friends of Jablonec n. N.). For the last fifteen years, it has used interesting premises on
the ground floor of the town hall building in the centre of town. Its activities focus on several thematic areas: the curator’s main area of interest is the work of local artists, including both contemporary artists and
those of the past who have been forgotten or deliberately neglected. He also devotes attention to local phenomena such as the applied arts school, various associations, applied arts production, medal making and
coin minting, art in public places and town symbolism.

The brownstone exhibition facilities in Jablonec nad Nisou have also been supplemented by the university Gallery N. It was opened in 2002 as a facility of the Department of Design from the Textile Faculty
at the Technical University in Liberec. The airy space in a former theatre building often hosts exhibitions by
costume jewellery and glass artists. Its very nature makes it clear that it is more interested in experimental
projects aimed at presenting the public with untraditional, playful and surprising views of traditional material. As well as regular exhibitions of the students’ semester work, the exhibition program also includes
graduates, teachers and inspiring individuals from the republic and abroad.

Mûstské muzeum
Mûsto Îelezn˘ Brod leÏí v údolí fieky Jizery na rozhraní âeského ráje, Jizersk˘ch hor a Krkono‰. Vãetnû
jedenácti mûstsk˘ch ãástí (Bzí, Horská Kamenice, Hrubá Horka, Chlístov, Jirkov, Malá Horka, Pelechov,
Stfievelná, Splzov, Tûpefie, Veselí) má 6500 obyvatel. Okolní krajina je vhodná pfiedev‰ím pro pû‰í a cykloturistiku, fieka Jizera slouÏí i vodákÛm. Mûsto se zajímav˘mi historick˘mi památkami nabízí také fiadu moÏností kulturního vyÏití.
Historie mûsta
Îelezn˘ Brod vznikl mezi 11.–12. stoletím pfii zemské obchodní stezce do Nûmecka a Polska. Rok 1501,
kter˘ je na mûstském znaku, vyjadfiuje obnovení mûstsk˘ch práv ãesk˘m králem Vladislavem II. Jagellonsk˘m. Od 14. století se v okolí tûÏila Ïelezná ruda. Na konci tfiicetileté války byla tûÏba ukonãena a mûsto
vypáleno ·védy. Roku 1660 dostalo hrdelní právo a v roce 1695 právo v˘roãních trhÛ – jarmarkÛ. Tím se
mûsteãko stalo hospodáfisk˘m stfiediskem celého podhÛfií. Ve druhé polovinû 19. století byla zaloÏena textilní továrna barona Liebiega.
Historie skláfiství
Na pfielomu 19. a 20. století zaãal rozvoj skláfiské v˘roby a brusíren. Z Jablonecka se zaãala roz‰ifiovat
domácí v˘roba a zpracování drobn˘ch sklenûn˘ch v˘robkÛ (maãkání, navíjení, navlékání perlí). Pro vzdûlávání domácích v˘robcÛ a zpracovatelÛ skla i pro rozvoj obchodních vztahÛ byla roku 1920 v Îelezném Brodû
zaloÏena Státní odborná skláfisko-obchodní ‰kola. Její absolventi si zakládali vlastní skláfiské firmy a Îelezn˘
Brod se pomalu stával pojizerskou metropolí skla.
Úspû‰n˘ rozvoj skláfiského podnikání zastavila 2. svûtová válka a poté v roce 1948 znárodnûní soukrom˘ch firem. Skláfiská v˘roba pokraãovala pfiedev‰ím pod hlaviãkou státního podniku Îeleznobrodské sklo.
Sklenûná tavená plastika, hutnû tvarované sklo a sklenûné figurky proslavily mûsto po celém svûtû. Po zániku státních podnikÛ rozvíjí skláfiskou tradici v souãasné dobû fiada soukrom˘ch firem.
Stfiední umûleckoprÛmyslová ‰kola skláfiská
U zaloÏení roku 1920 byli profesofii z praÏské V·UP – J. Brychta, Z. Juna, L. Pfienosil a dal‰í spolu s prvním fieditelem A. Metelákem. Hlavním posláním ‰koly je vychovávat fiemeslnû zdatné, umûlecky erudované
skláfiské odborníky, schopné hledat nové moÏnosti zpracování skla ve spojení s v˘vojem technologií, ktefií
budou zvy‰ovat vûhlas ãeského skláfiství. Ve ‰kole je prodejna studentsk˘ch prací pfiístupná i pro vefiejnost.
Bûhem prázdnin probíhají studentské v˘stavy.

Mûstské muzeum v Îelezném Brodû prezentuje své sbírky ve dvou stál˘ch expozicích. Skláfiská ãást je
umístûna v budovû b˘valé mûstské spofiitelny na námûstí 3. kvûtna. Národopisná expozice se nachází
v roubeném domû zvaném Bûli‰tû, kter˘ je souãástí památkové zóny Trávníky.
Ve skláfiské expozici nalezneme historickou svûtniãku domácího v˘robce skla spolu s náãiním, vybavením

Exkurze po historii a souãasnosti skláfiské v˘roby v Îelezném Brodû. MoÏné jsou i exkurze do firem s pfiedvádûním skláfiského fiemesla a v˘roby, kde lze zakoupit originální ãeské sklo za nejlep‰í ceny pfiímo od v˘robcÛ.

Îelezn˘ Brod
Die Stadt Îelezn˘ Brod (Eisenbrod) liegt im Tal der Iser, an der Grenze zwischen Böhmischem Paradies,
Isergebirge und Riesengebirge. Mit all seinen Stadtteilen (Bzí, Horská Kamenice, Hrubá Horka, Chlístov,
Jirkov, Malá Horka, Pelechov, Stfievelná, Splzov, Tûpefie, Veselí) hat es 6500 Einwohner. Die umliegende
Landschaft lädt zur aktiven Erholung ein – zum Wandern und Radwandern, aber auch zum Wassertourismus. Die Stadt mit ihren interessanten historischen Sehenswürdigkeiten hat auch auf kulturellem
Gebiet allerhand zu bieten.
Geschichte der Stadt
Îelezn˘ Brod – Eisenbrod entstand im 11.–12. Jahrhundert an einer alten Landesstraße nach Polen und
Deutschland. Die Jahreszahl 1501 auf dem Stadtwappen erinnert an die Wiederherstellung der Stadtrechte
durch den böhmischen König Wladislav II. Jagellon. Ab dem 14. Jahrhundert wurde in der Umgebung
Eisenerz gewonnen. Gegen Ende des dreißigjährigen Krieges wurde der Erzbergbau beendet und die Stadt
von den Schweden gebrandschatzt. Im Jahre 1660 erhielt die Stadt das Recht auf die Blutgerichtsbarkeit
und im Jahre 1695 das Recht auf die Abhaltung von Jahrmärkten. Hierdurch wurde das Städtchen zum
wirtschaftlichen Mittelpunkt des gesamten Gebirgsvorlandes. In der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts
wurde die Textilfabrik von Baron Liebig gegründet.
Geschichte der Glasherstellung
An der Wende vom 19. zum 20. Jahrhundert begann der Aufschwung der Glashütten und -schleifereien.
Aus Gablonz verbreiteten sich die Heimarbeit und Verarbeitung kleiner Glaserzeugnisse (Drücken, Wickeln
und Auffädeln von Glasperlen) nach und nach auch in die weitere Umgebung. Zur Bildung der heimischen
Glashersteller und -verarbeiter, aber auch zur weiteren Entwicklung der Geschäftsbeziehungen wurde
in Îelezn˘ Brod die Staatliche Glasfach- und Handelsschule gegründet. Deren Absolventen gründeten dann
ihre eigene Glasfabriken und so stieg Îelezn˘ Brod langsam aber sicher zur Glasmetropole an der Iser auf.
Der 2. Weltkrieg und die Verstaatlichung der Privatfirmen im Jahre 1948 brachten den hoffnungsvollen
Aufschwung des Glasgewerbes zum Stocken. Und so fand die weitere Glasherstellung vor allem unter dem
Taktstock des Staatsbetriebs Îeleznobrodské sklo statt. Geschmolzene Glasplastiken, geformtes Hüttenglas
und Glasfiguren machten die Stadt in der ganzen Welt berühmt. Nach dem Niedergang der Staatsbetriebe
wahren heute zahlreiche Privatfirmen die alten Glastradition und entwickeln diese weiter.
Glaserzeugnissen. Andere Ausstellungssäle sind den
namhaftesten Pädagogen und Absolventen der Glasund Kunstgewerbeschule sowie Eisenbroder Glasfabrikanten aus der Zwischenkriegszeit gewidmet. Die Zierde
des Museums ist eine Galerie der weltweit anerkannten
Glasdesigner J. Brychtová und S. Libensk˘ – der Pioniere
der Technologie geschmolzener Glasplastiken, die hier
einen Querschnitt durch ihr künstlerisches Schaffen
präsentieren.

Die ständige Ausstellung präsentiert Bilder, Zeichnungen, Fotografien und einen Theatervorhang des
Malers Vl. Rada, der einige Jahre lang in Îelezn˘ Brod
lebte. In den sonstigen Galerieräumen finden im Laufe
des Jahres verschiedene Ausstellungen statt. Zu den
beliebtesten zählt die Ausstellung gläserner Weihnachtskrippen. Jedes Jahr bekommen die Besucher
neue, bisher nicht ausgestellte Weihnachtskrippen zu
sehen. Seitens der Glasmacher besteht außerordentliches Interesse an dieser Ausstellung und beteiligen
sich so gern an der Herstellung neuer Ausstellungsstücke. Jedes Jahr ersucht die Galerie Inhaber interessanter gläserner Weihnachtskrippen, diese für den
jeweils nächsten Jahrgang auszuleihen.
Glasstädtchen
Fachschule für Glaskunstgewerbe
Um ihre Gründung im Jahre 1920 machten sich Professoren der Kunstgewerbeschule in Prag –
J. Brychta, Z. Juna, L. Pfienosil zusammen mit ihrem ersten Direktor, A. Metelák verdient. Hauptmission der
Schule ist es, handwerklich routinierte und künstlerisch gebildete Glasfachleute heranzuziehen, die
imstande sind, neue Möglichkeiten der Glasverarbeitung ausfindig zu machen und moderne Technologien
zu entwickeln, die den Ruhm des tschechischen Glashandwerks fördern. In der Schule gibt es einen öffentlichen Shop von Studentenarbeiten. In den Ferien finden Studentenausstellungen statt.
Hierbei geht es um ein Glasmacherfest, das regelmäßig im Rahmen des „Tages des offenen Denkmals“
im September stattfindet – mit interessantem Kulturprogramm, Jahrmarktsbuden, dem Verkauf von Glaserzeugnissen, Demonstrationen der Glasherstellung in
einer Glashütte, Glasausstellungen, Gesprächsrunden
und Vorträgen über das Glas, einem Flohmarkt u.a.m.

Das Städtische Museum in Îelezn˘ Brod präsentiert seine Sammlungen in zwei ständigen Ausstellungen. Der dem Glasmacherei gewidmete Teil befindet sich in der ehemaligen Sparkasse am Platz des 3. Mai.
Die Volkskundeausstellung befindet sich in einem gezimmerten Blockhaus, dem. sog. Haus Bûli‰tû, das Teil
der Denkmalzone „Trávníky“ ist.
In der dem Glashandwerk gewidmeten Ausstellung gibt es das historische Stübchen eines Heimglasmachers zu sehen, zusammen mit Geräten, Ausrüstungsgegenständen und Verwendungsbeispielen von

Îelezn˘ Brod
The town of Îelezn˘ Brod lies in a valley of the Jizera River at the boundary of the Bohemian Paradise,
the Jizera Mountains and the Giant Mountains. Its eleven suburbs (Bzí, Horská Kamenice, Hrubá Horka,
Chlístov, Jirkov, Malá Horka, Pelechov, Stfievelná, Splzov, Tûpefie and Veselí) are home to 6,500 inhabitants.
The surrounding landscape is mainly suitable for hiking and cycling, while the Jizera River is also used for
water sports. The town also includes a number of interesting historical monuments and it offers a range of
cultural activities.
The town’s history
Îelezn˘ Brod was established by the 11th and 12th centuries on a trade route leading from Germany
to Poland. The year 1501, which is included in the town’s coat of arms, relates to the renewal of the
town’s rights by the Czech King Vladislav II Jagiellonian. Iron ore was mined in the environs from the 14th
century onwards. The mining ceased and the town was burnt down by the Swedes at the end of the Thirty
Years War. In 1660, the town received the right to administer capital punishment and in 1695 it was
awarded the right to hold annual markets. This led to the small town becoming an economic centre for
the entire foothills area. Baron Liebieg’s textile factory was established in the second half of the 19th
century.
The history of glassmaking
The development of glass production and glass cutting workshops commenced at the turn of the 19th
and 20th centuries. Home production and the processing of small glass products (the pressing, stringing
and threading of beads) began to spread from the Jablonec area. The State Specialist Glass-Commerce
School was established in Îelezn˘ Brod in 1920 in order to educate domestic glass producers and processors and to assist in the development of commercial relations. Its graduates founded their own glassmaking
companies and Îelezn˘ Brod slowly became the Jizera region’s town of glass.
The 2nd World War and the nationalisation of private companies after 1948 put a stop to the successful development of glass commerce. Glass production continued mainly under the auspices of the Îeleznobrodské sklo state enterprise. Melted glass statues, moulded furnace glass and glass figurines made the
town famous throughout the world. Now that the state enterprises have been closed down, the glassmaking tradition is currently being continued by a number of private companies.
The Applied Arts Secondary School of Glassmaking
Professors J. Brychta, Z. Juna, L. Pfienosil and others from the Prague School of Decorative Arts, as well
as the first principal A. Metelák, were present at the official opening in 1920. The school’s main mission is
to train skilled, artistic and erudite glassmaking experts who are capable of looking for new options for processing glass in combination with the development of technology which will increase the renown of Czech
glassmaking. The students’ works is available for sale at the school shop. Student exhibitions take place
during the holidays.

The Town Museum in Îelezn˘ Brod presents its collections in two permanent exhibitions. The glassmaking
section is located in the building of the former town building society on the 3. kvûtna Square. The ethnographic exhibition is located in a timbered house called “Bûli‰tû” which is part of the Trávníky heritage zone.
The glassmaking exhibition contains a historical room from a home glassmaking facility with tools,
equipment and examples of the use of glass products. Other exhibition halls are devoted to the most significant teachers and graduates from the glass school and Îelezn˘ Brod entrepreneurs from the interwar
period. The pride of the Town Museum is the gallery of the internationally acknowledged artists J. Brychtová
and S. Libensk˘ who were pioneers in the technology of melted glass statues. The gallery contains a crosssection of their artistic work.

The permanent exhibition consists of paintings, drawings, photographs and a theatre curtain by the
painter V. Rada who lived in Îelezn˘ Brod for several years. Exhibitions are held in the other areas of the
gallery throughout the course of the year. One of the most popular is the exhibition of glass nativity scenes.
Every year, it offers visitors new nativity scenes which have never been exhibited before. Glassmakers are
greatly interested in the exhibition and they provide new exhibits for it. The gallery permanently calls upon
the owners of interesting glass nativity scenes to lend them for the next year’s exhibition.
Glass Town
This is a celebration of the town’s glassmaking craft which takes place regularly in the third weekend of
September within the framework of the European Days of Heritage. It offers an interesting cultural
program, stalls, the sale of glass products, displays of glass production in a glass kiln, glass exhibitions,
discussions and lectures on glass, a glass flea market and so on.
Winter glass Fridays
This involves excursions to companies with presentations of the glassmaking craft and production and
where it is possible to purchase original Czech glass at the best price directly from the manufacturer. They
are held from December to March. The participants are, for example: SUPS· Îelezn˘ Brod, the Town
Museum, the Lampglas company shop, DT GLASS, s. r. o. and Detesk, s. r. o. and the LHOTSK¯ Chlístov
Gallery – exhibitions of contemporary artistic glass.

rozprostřen na 4leté střední a 3leté vyšší studium. Střední škola

der Gablonzer Bijouterie- und Schmuckindustrie gegründet.
Heute vermittelt die Schule ein 4-jähriges Fach- und 3-jähriges
höheres Studium. Die Fachschule umfasst die folgenden Studienfächer: das Formen und die Gravur von Matrizen, Oberflächenveredlung, Gürtlerei, kunstgewerbliche Verarbeitung von

The school was established in 1880 to support the Jablonec
costume jewellery and decorative industry. The school currently
offers 4-year basic courses and 3-year advanced courses. The secondary school includes the fields of embossing die shaping and engraving, surface finishing, artistic and applied arts metalwork and
graphic design. The upper secondary school focuses on training
future medallion makers in the field of medal and coin minting.
