Report from the Tournament Mutual understanding within
Football people weeks
The city Frydek – Mistek in cooperation with Life together NGO from Ostrava has
again
hosted
the
football
tournament
with
the
main
theme
of
mutual
understanding. Organization and preparation of the event was realized by the employees of
Life together, people from Frydek Mistek and volunteers from ADRA non-profit
organization.
The tournament was held on Sunday, October 18, 2015 (from 10am to 4.00 pm) in
the gym of Secondary electrical and woodworking school. A total of 66 players and about 20
fans took part in the event. There were 8 amateur teams of players aged 10 to 25 (in 2
categories). Four teams came from Ostrava, from 3 centres for children and youths –
community centres located in excluded areas of Silesian part of Ostrava (Liščina Zárubek and
Hrušov). Four teams of young footballers came from Frydek - Mistek. Both Roma and
members of the majority had an opportunity to meet and play together.
The opening ceremony of the tournament was held in the presence of Deputy Mayor in
Frydek-Mistek, Mr. Pavel Machala, who welcomed the young footballers and wished them a
nice sport event. The City Frydek - Mistek has also partly supported the event by purchasing
awards for the players (medals etc.). During the event the girls from dancing group Amare
Čercheň from Frýdek – Mistek performed interesting dances, dressed in beautiful costumes
representing Roma traditional gypsy dance and also one modern dance.
The teams were divided into two groups according to age - over15 and younger than
15. Each team played with all the others. Refrees were two men from Válcovny plechu area
in Frydek - Mistek and from volunteering organization ADRA. Players and members of the
teams had refreshments In the form of sandwiches and drinks.
Volunteers from
ADRA prepared in the school corridor small exhibition of
photographs that highlight the existing prejudices in society because football
tournament was held under the slogan "No discrimination, yes to equality" as a part of
a global campaign Football people weeks.
This campaign against discrimination
annually engages more than fifty countries and more than 2 000 sport events are
financially supported by Fare network.
Both organizers and participants of the
tournament were proud to be part of this big football family.
Football Tournament ended after nearly six hours, winning team
came from a
community center Liščina. In the category of older team community center from Hrušov was
the winner. On the awards there was a logo of the supporters of the tournament - Fare
network, Frydek - Mistek. Players were also awarded with medals and small gifts from
ADRA Frydek - Mistek.
The most important thing was that everyone played in the spirit of fair play and
it was confirmed that members of the majority and the Roma can perfectly cooperate
together in the organization of such an event. In the next year, the organizers have set
ourselves the aim to gain participation in the tournament football teams from the
majority and other minorities in the Czech Republic to even better fulfill the idea of
cooperation and understanding.
The organizers are very grateful for the support from an international Fare networok,
the City of Frydek - Mistek and Ostrava municipality, who financially supported
implementation of the tournament. we also want to thank also to the secondary school in
Frýdek – Mistek for provision of a nice gym for the event, and to Czech Radio Ostrava for
informing the public about the tournament (live broadcasting on Sunday18th in 9:20am).
