He said: „I have lost my umbrella.“ „Ztratil jsem deštník,“ řekl. He said he had lost his umbrella. V následujícím přehledu si to vysvětlíme na příkladech: She said, "It's hot." She said it was hot. She said, "I'm walking in the park." She said she was walking in the park. She said, "I've been waiting since 10." She said she had been waiting since 10. She said, "I've been teaching French for ten years." She said she had been teaching French for ten years. She said, "I went home late yesterday." She said she had gone home late yesterday. She said, "I was running earlier." She said she had been running earlier. He said, "The train had already left when he arrived." He said the train had already left when he arrived. (beze změny) She said, "I'd already been studying for ten minutes." She said she'd already been studying for ten minutes. (beze změny) I u modálních sloves se obvykle mění tvary (COULD, WOULD, SHOULD a MIGHT zůstávají stejné): She said, "I'll go home early today." She said she would go home early today. She said, "I can go home early today." She said she could go home early today. She said, "I must go home early today." She said she had to go home early today. She said, "May I open the window?" 3 She asked if she might open the window. "I might go to play tennis later", he said. He said he might go to play tennis later. Pokud přímá řeč zmiňuje nějaký rozkaz, radu, vysvětlení apod., sloveso ve vedlejší větě dáváme do infinitivu: He suggested: „Come to my birthday party!“ He suggested me to come to his birthday party. Pokud přímá řeč obsahuje i vyjádření času, nesmíme zapomenout změnit i to: He said: „I could do it tomorrow.“ He said he could do it the next day. Cvičení 1 Převeďte do nepřímé řeči: 1) He said: "I'm late!" He said that _______________. 2) Milo said: "Susie is leaving today." She said that ______________________- . 7) Louis asked: "How old are you, Jack?" Louis asked __________________________ . 8) I asked him: "Did you see Jane?" Mezi nejběžnější můžeme řadit třeba sloveso GET UP (vstát): I get up every morning at 6 a.m. Podívejme se na následující rozdíly: I looked at their house. Podíval jsem se na jejich dům. I looked after their house. Staral jsem se o jejich dům. ask (something) find get give look zeptat se na něco najít dostat dát dívat se ask for find out get up give up look after/ look for požádat o zjistit vstát vzdát starat se / hledat 5 Cvičení 3 Doplňte výše uvedená frázová slovesa do vět: Who is going to look after your cat while you are away? 1) I never _________________early on Sundays. 2) I need to _______________where she was going. 3) I usually __________fish when I eat in a restaurant. 4) She loses a lot of time _____________keys in her bag. 5) She ____________ for a green tea but they didn’t have it. 6) The doctor told my boss to ___________smoking. 7) I need to ____________who is coming to the meeting. 8) Thank you for ____________ while I was ill. 9) I normally __________ much earlier in the summer than in the winter. Řešení: 1) get up, 2) find out, 3) ask for, 4) looking for, 5) asked for, 6) give up, 7) find out, 8) looking after me, 9) get up A zde si uvedeme vybraná frázová slovesa, se kterými se v angličtině nejčastěji setkáme: Break down přestat fungovat Our car broke down in the snowstorm.
