The pilgrimage Church of St. John of Nepomuk is a Bohemian Gothicizing Baroque masterpiece. It
was designed rapidly, apparently from April to August 1719. Santini elaborated Václav Vejmluva's
basic concept into its final creative likeness. It was built in the years 1719-22. The symbolism of
numbers and morphology repeated throughout the structure. The church's pentagram ground plan
symbolizes both the Five Wounds of Christ and the five stars of the halo of martyr St. John of
Nepomuk. This precious church was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
