CzechTourism to Celebrate Together
with the Czech Republic in 2013
2013 marks the 20th anniversary not only for the Czech
Republic, but also for CzechTourism. Tourregionfilm, a
younger brother of the oldest Tourfilm festival, also turns
twenty. In fact, the number 20 will be communicated many
times throughout the year. In April, we will open the tourist
season at Czech castles and chateaux and using 20 symbolic
keys, we would like to open 20 of them. We would like
to bring Karlovy Vary Week back to life, twice actually, in
spring and in autumn, and to wrap the traditional Porcelain
Days festival, the spa season opening and the Food Cup
up into one neat little package. Summer will begin with an
open-air festival featuring 20 reasons why a vacation in the
Czech Republic would be entertaining. Together with our
colleagues from Czech Television, we will present the fourth
holiday series of the Toulavá kamera vychutnává Česko (The
Wandering Camera Enjoying the Czech Republic) weekly
documentary. In September, we will welcome the Glass Art
Festival at Prague Castle, accompanied by 20 large-scale
photographs showing 20 topics from the modern Czech
Republic’s history. In autumn, we will further strengthen our
involvement in the CzechSpecials project and are planning a
number of other activities. As you can see, there is a lot to look
forward to this year.

The Czech Republic – Your Favorite MICE destination
Hundreds of thousands attend congresses and conferences in the Czech
Republic each year, and each year
their numbers are growing.
Curious why?
Because: Only a few places on Earth can
offer such an untouched wealth of culture
and history alongside sophisticated
global businesses, modern convention
centers and congress halls, cutting edge
technological infrastructure, style and
comfort.
4
Because: Combine this with the ideal location of the country in the very heart of
Europe and you get a combination MICE
events organizers cannot resist. The Czech
Republic is easily reachable from almou
everywhere. Its main international airport,
the Prague´s Vaclav Havel Airport, serves
nearly 11 million passengers annually,
with 49 airlines offering direct flights to
132 destinations all over the world.
Because: The Czech Republic is a small
country, so you can see most of it, and
there is a lot to see! To date, twelve towns
and monuments have been included in
the UNESCO heritage list, a remarkable
achievement for such a small country.
Because: You don´t have to worry. The
Czech Republic is a safe destination, and
safety is extremely important in today´s
world. Both large international event
attendees and ordinary tourists arrive in
the country every day to enjoy a pleasant,
safe stay.
Because: Prague is such a gem. And more
gems are scattered across the country,
be it Český Krumlov, Kutná Hora, Telč or
Kroměříž.
Because: When organizing a MICE event
here, you will see that your imagination is
your only limit. Holding a MICE event at a
castle? Historical costume dinner with a
private classical music koncert? Reception
at an old industrial site? No problem at all.
Because: You will get good value for your
money. The selection of quality venues,
accommodation and programs is broad,
and the high quality comes at a reasonable and competitive prices.

(Prague, March 2013) Czech Convention Bureau has recently received the prestigious Best Convention Bureau Award from the MICE Report Magazine. The award
was made by a jury consisting of industry professionals. The decision was based
on nominations submitted by readers of the magazine who are regular MICE clients (meetings, incentives, congresses and trade shows).
The MICE Report Magazine is a respected industry publication which selects and

bureaus operate in every significant congress destination in the world. They offer
independent advice to companies and individuals looking for accommodation
and suitable venues with relevant services for their events.
Charles Vandeleur, the Chief Editor of the MICE Report, said: “I am delighted to
announce that Czech Convention Bureau was voted the best convention bureau in
Europe by our readers. Czech Convention Bureau secured the award in a category
noted for the very high level of competition which only confirms what a fantastic
job they are doing while promoting the Czech Republic as a MICE destination.”
MICE Report Magazine approached more than 85.000 of its subscribers to nominate their candidates for the MICE Report Awards 2012 in various categories. Based
on the results of the nominations the magazine then prepared a shortlist. The winners were chosen by a jury of industry professionals whose members based their
decision on the nominations, their own individual research and responses to a
questionnaire which they sent to the shortlisted candidates.
Zdenek Giormani, CzCB CzechTourism Director, says: “We are really proud of
the award because it reflects the satisfaction of our clients and partners with our
services. In addition to that it is a wonderful message to give to potential clients
underlining the fact that the Czech Republic is a top class destination for congress
tourism where they will receive the very best service while planning their event.”

The Pardubice Region Offers Great
Opportunities for Convention Tourism
EAST BOHEMIA
The area of East Bohemia is located on the border between Bohemia and Moravia in the north-eastern part
of the Czech Republic and includes the territory of the
Pardubice Region. The entire region has been dynamically developing, and this applies also to convention
tourism. New modern convention centers with high
accommodation and catering capacities are being
built. Naturally, they also offer facilities for accompanying sports, cultural and relaxation activities.

services, the Pardubice Region is the ideal
place for holding
medium-sized events.
Accommodation
can be arranged in
three-star and fourstar hotels that have

Another advantage of
this region is its easy
accessibility by road,
train and plane.
The region also offers
Litomyšl Castle
a whole range of
tourist attractions
that offer a respite from business activities and can make the official portion of
conventions and other events more interesting. A list of places that is worth visiting definitely must include the town of Litomyšl with its unique castle registered
in the UNESCO World Heritage List, located about 50 kilometers from Pardubice.
The region’s capital, Pardubice, also has a lot to offer.
THE EAST BOHEMIA CONVENTION BUREAU
The objective of the East Bohemia Convention Bureau is to support and promote entities that provide convention, corporate and incentive tourism services. The company
also helps to coordinate convention tourism in the Pardubice Region. It offers consulting
services such as event planning, the selection of a suitable location, accommodation

SOUTH BOHEMIA
OUR SUGGESTIONS
is one of the most attractive tourist regions of the Czech Republic, spreading along the border with Austria and
the Federal Republic of Germany. It is
an easily accessible region that you
can visit while travelling from Prague
to Vienna, Linz and Passau. The largest city in South Bohemia, České
Budějovice, is located approximately
in the region’s centre. Here you can
find architectonic gems such as the
town of Český Krumlov (a UNESCO
site) and Hluboká nad Vltavou
with its beautiful Neo-Gothic chateau. South Bohemia is a traditional
tourist destination, both for individual
and incentive tourism. Its modern infrastructure sensitively completes the
region’s rich cultural, natural and historical heritage. The lodging capacity of the local, high-quality facilities
can accommodate more than 50,000
guests. You can choose from among
two five-star, 20 four-star and 14
three-star hotels. Naturally, the region
also offers a wide selection of local
gastronomic specialties.
The ClarionCongress Hotel České Budějovice
(www.clarioncongresshotelceskebudejovice.com) is a modern business hotel, offering the highest
level of comfort to its guests as well as
the wide range of services typical of
the four-star standard of the Clarion
brand. The hotel has 205 standard and
superior rooms and suites and the total
capacity of its convention facility is up
to 640 delegates.
Exhibition Grounds České Budějovice
(www.vcb.cz) is the second largest exhibition grounds
in the Czech Republic as measured
by area, the second most visited and
the third largest as measured by the
number of exhibitors. It is a major,
multi-functional and exhibition centre

THE ECONOMY
The Czech Republic is a stable and prosperous market economy
closely integrated with the EU, especially since the country‘s EU
accession in 2004. While the conservative Czech financial system
has remained relatively healthy, the small, open, export-driven
Czech economy remains sensitive to changes in the economic
performance of its main export markets, especially Germany.
The auto industry remains the largest single industry, and, together
with its suppliers, accounts for nearly 24% of Czech manufacturing.
The Czech Republic produced more than a million cars for the first
time in 2010, over 80% of which were exported.

VENUES
USUAL AND UNUSUAL
The Czech Republic offers all kinds of meeting facilities, from small
intimate boutique style meeting rooms and hotels to large meeting
venues and conference halls. The list of venues suitable for holding
congresses and conferences includes several with room big enough
for more than 5,000 people.
With its 559 spacious and comfortable rooms and suites
Clarion Congress Hotel Prague focuses on international
conferences, congress events and business as well as leisure
travellers. This multi-functional property provides a wide
range of services under one roof – restaurants, bars, wellness
& fitness centre, shopping mall, cash machines and indoor
garage parking for cars and buses.
The hotel has large conference spaces with the capacity of up
to 2,500 persons on one floor.
All 27 variable halls and meeting rooms, covering the area of
4,000 m2, are equipped with the most modern technology
and offer the organizers high quality facilities for hosting all
types of events and activities. The main congress hall can
seat almost 2,000 delegates in theatre set up. The variable
character of the rooms and the 8-meter-high mobile ceiling
make it possible to adjust the hall to the size and character of
the event, including television broadcast. It is also possible to
arrange a car in the congress centre. The contiguous spacious foyer (1,300 m2) is perfect for exhibitions and additional
programmes.
12
The hotel is easily accessible by car as well as by
public transport (metro
station right under the
hotel). It takes only 30 – 40
minutes by car from Václav
Havel Airport Prague, or
10 – 15 minutes by metro
from the historical city
centre.
But the country also offers much more.
Have you ever attended a conference held in an old sewage
treatment plant? Or a tram depot? What about an event organized
in a tropical greenhouse?
And there are many more unique venues in the Czech Republic that
will surprise you with their originality. A beautiful deconsecrated
church, mansions, chateaus and castles, museums and even golf
courses with conference facilities...all of them are equipped with
modern technology and all of them are easily accessible. Come and
see for yourselves: you name it, the country has it.
But it is not only a conference you can hold at a castle. Many of the
country´s castles offer perfect settings for a wedding. The castles of
Hluboká nad Vltavou, Český Krumlov, Červená Lhota or Jindřichův
Hradec belong to the most romantic of them.

CUISINE
Typical Czech delicacies include roast goose or duck, served with
dumplings (ether bread or potato) and cabbage, svíčková – which
is sirloin od beaf with a special cream sauce served with bread
dumping – and venison.
These are best accompanied by the world-famous Czech beers
(Czech breweries offer a wide selection, so no need to limit yourself
to a choice between the delicious Pilsner Urquell and Budweiser
beers) or by the suprisingly good Czech and Moravian wines.
Production of wine has a long tradition in the Czech Republic and
the wines are very popular among lovers of optimally matured
wines.
In the numerous restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars in Prague and
around the country, one can also enjoy other types of cuisine, be it
Italian, French, Asian or speciality foods, such as vegetarian, organic
or kosher. The choice of restaurants is wide and one can eat out
very cheaply in a local eatery or dine in style in restaurants that
have high profile chefs and have been awarded prestigius Michelin
stars, such as Alcron in the Raddisson hotel and La Degustation
Boheme Bourgeoise, both in Prague.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
The country and its companies operating on the MICE market have
repeatedly proven that they are capable of handling large and
important events. The country has around 235 hotels with facilities
that can cater for large conferences – over twenty of them are fivestar hotels and sixty-five are four-star hotels. About 2,780 hotels can
handle smaller conferences, seminars and other events.
Apart from well-equipped congress and conference centres that
include i.e. the Prague Congress Centre, Aldis Congress Centre in
Hradec Králové or the Congress Centre in Pilsen, the Czech Republic
also has a number of highly professional DMCs that offer excellent
and extremely creative solutions.
With access to unique venues and attractive accompanying
programs, DMCs can create experience that travelers would
otherwise not have on their own.
The country and its capital Prague are competitively priced
compared to other European countries and at the same time
show devotion to excellence and superior services. All hotels, from
charming boutique properties to international chains, offer a high
quality experience, regardless of whether you are organizing a
conference, a business meeting, an event or an incentive program.
The same applies to the country often unique venues and to the
efficient and professional DMCs and PCOs. You will get top quality
service at a very good price.
