My name is Jana. I live in a small town near Prague. I live with my friend Edita. I have a cat,

HALLOWEEN
Halloween is a celebrated on the 31st October. The word HALLOWEEN comes from All Hallows’ Evening or
Hallowe’en. Traditional activities include trick-or-treating, dressing up, costume parties, visiting “haunted
houses” and making the Jack O’lanterns – carving pumpkins.
Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival. The festival is called Samhain. It is a celebration of
the end of the harvest season and the Samhain was a time used by the ancient pagans to stock of supplies
and preparation for winter.
People make Jack O’lanterns and they put it on the door steps or windows to chase bad spirits and evils
from their houses.
Trick-or-treating, is an activity for children. They go from door to door and shout. "Trick or treat!" The
"trick" part of "trick or treat" is a threat to play a trick on the homeowner or his property if no treat is
given.
Dressing up is also a very popular custom. Children wear masks and costumes and they go Trick-ortreating. Adults make costume parties and they celebrate Halloween.
