ÚVOD
Soubor obsahuje 20 pracovních listů pro výuku angličtiny. Je určen učitelům 2.stupně ZŠ
a SŠ jako metodická příručka pro vlastní vytváření doplňkových materiálů z internetových zdrojů
do výuky především angličtiny.
Jednotlivé listy jsou doplněny podrobným popisem internetové adresy s cestou
k vytvoření daného materiálu. Typově jsou cvičení velice různorodé, abychom ukázali dostatečné
mnoţství nápadů na další moţné vytváření podobných listů do výuky.
Náměty a vytvoření daného souboru jsou výsledkem pedagogické práce lektorského týmu
Jazykové školy Alternativ CZ s.r.o. především rodilé mluvčí Maegan Hoower a Tatjany
Marešové.
Soubor obsahuje seznam internetových adres vhodných pro výuku cizích jazyků
především angličtiny.

How to prepare it:
Worksheets such as this are plentiful online. For example, you can find exceptional
beginner‟s verb conjugation worksheets at www.teaching-esl-to-adults.com/free-eslworksheets-for-beginners.html. Other templates can be found at http://www.eslbase.com/
if you scroll to “teaching resources” on the main page and then click “downloadable
worksheets and activities”. The eslbase website does require that you create a login but
signing up is free and their resources are valuable.
You can either print the worksheets you find online directly or download them to edit in
Microsoft Word. Editing is important if you notice that some of the lexis is too advanced
for your students. For instance, while the present worksheet is advanced given the
amount of verb tenses the student must choose from, the lexis is quite straightforward.

3. Write Sentences about Pictures WS 3
Write sentences about the following pictures using the adjectives below:
dangerous
adventurous

Answer Key:
There are many sentences that could be created using the adjectives in this worksheet.
Here are some examples:
1. The skydivers are adventurous.
2. The school children are cautious when crossing the street.
3. The books are tiny!
4. The new weapon is dangerous.
5. The comedian‟s jokes are hilarious.
How to prepare it:
The present worksheet was not created using any websites. To create a similar worksheet,
simply select your desired lexis, place these words in a text box at the top of the page and
ask the students to write sentences using each word. In the present worksheet, pictures
have been added to give the students clues regarding the definitions of each adjective.
While visually attractive, the pictures are not nec.
10
4. Complete the Comic Strip WS 4
Fill in the bubbles with the appropriate text to complete the comic:
a. I‟m not touching a lizard! No way! Disgusting!
b. You have to tell them this wasn‟t my fault.
c. Here. I‟ll move him.
d. Mom, Jason‟s iguana is sitting on my notebook!
e. Will you still write the note?
f. You have to write a note to my teachers explaining why I couldn‟t do my
homework.
g. So move him.
h. You have to tell them that the iguana wouldn‟t move.
11
Answer Key:
1. d
2. g
3. a
4. f
5. h
6. b
7. c
8. e
How to prepare it:
To prepare a worksheet such as this, download a comic strip of your choice online and
remove the text within the speech bubbles. The present comic was downloaded from
http://www.foxtrot.com/ by simply right clicking on the comic of interest and saving it as
a jpeg. The speech bubbles were then removed using Microsoft Powerpoint and the
resulting image was inserted into Microsoft Word. Since the speech bubbles are removed
completely, it is possible to create your own dialogue if so desired. This is optimal if the
original lexis is too advanced for your students. The above dialogue was edited slightly in
order to make it easier to discern where each quotation should go.

How to prepare it:
This wordsearch was created at
http://puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com/WordSearchSetupForm.asp. If you plan on
adding editing the “clues section” (as was done in this worksheet) make sure to choose
“text” in step three so that the wordsearch can be copied into Micros;oft Word. Pasting
the resulting wordsearch into a text box is the most convenient option. That way the size
can be easily adjusted without encountering too many formatting issues. Make sure that
when the wordsearch is inserted that it remains in its original 15x15 or 20x20 size. If the
ratio of rows to columns is altered, certain letters will no longer match up within the
wordserach. It is also possible to print the wordsearch directly offline, cut it out, tape it
onto a piece of paper containing your “clues” and photocopy it.
To make the wordsearch more challenging, you may create an unscrambling exercise for
each word rather than providing the word itself. Adding pictures can help give the
students clues as to which adjective has been scrambled. Furthermore, images make the
worksheet more aesthetically pleasing. In the present worksheet, the wordsearch contains
adjectives. This activity can, however, be modified to suit any lesson topic. It all depends
on which words you choose for the wordsearch.

How to prepare it:
The template for this board game can be found at http://www.esl-galaxy.com/board.htm
under “beginner/elementary level ESL board games.” Choose “adjective/opposites”. To
make the game more challenging, replace the easier adjectives with more challenging
words. For example, in the above worksheet “depressed” was substituted for “sad”. The
present worksheet was edited in Microsoft Powerpoint. The finished image was then
saved as a jpeg and inserted into Microsoft Word for easy printing. It may, however, be
possible to edit the templates in Word as well.

The present crossword was created at www.crosswordpuzzlegames.com/create.html. The
resulting crossword was then inserted into Microsoft Word where the “clues section” was
modified independently. A word bank was created from which the student could match
each word to its corresponding clue.
While the present worksheet focuses on phrasal verbs, the general concept of this
worksheet can be easily modified to focus on a variety of grammatical or lexical topics.
In is also important to note that another good website for crossword generation is
http://edhelper.com/crossword.htm. This website, however, does require that you create a
login.

Answer Key:
Mary, Queen of Scots was one of the most fascinating and controversial monarchs of
16th century Europe. Crowned the Queen of Scotland when she was only six days old,
Mary was the last Roman Catholic ruler in Scotland. King Henry VIII of England wanted
Mary to marry his son Edward. Mary was sent to France at the age of 6 to protect her
from Henry VIII. She was educated at the French court and married Francis the Dauphin
of France at the age of 16. When Francis became King a year later, Mary was named
Queen of France. Unfortunately, Francis died soon after. When Mary‟s mother died, she
returned to Scotland to rule as Queen. However, she did not have the political skills to
successfully rule Scotland. In 1568, she escaped to England, hoping that her cousin
Queen Elizabeth would help. Instead of helping her, Queen Elizabeth imprisoned Mary.
Mary was imprisoned for nineteen years. In 1587, at the age of forty-four, Mary was
executed. The English government had all of her possessions burned.
How to prepare it:
This worksheet was not created from an online template. To create a similar worksheet,
chose a topic of interest and write a short story. Then simply remove certain words from
the text and place these words in a word bank at the top of the page. The present
worksheet was written about Mary, Queen of Scots but any topic can be used. In addition,
the current worksheet focuses on general vocabulary. If so desired, the content of the
story can be modified to focus on specific grammar points. Lastly, inserting a few
pictures will spark interest in the topic and help create a more visually appealing
worksheet.

How to prepare it:
This wordsearch was created at
http://puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com/WordSearchSetupForm.asp. If you plan on
adding descriptive clues rather than the actual words to be found (as was done in this
worksheet) make sure to choose “text” in step three so that the wordsearch can be copied
into Microsoft Word. Pasting the resulting wordsearch into a text box is often the most
convenient option. That way the size can be easily adjusted without encountering too
many formatting issues. Make sure that when the wordsearch is inserted that it remains
in its original 15x15 or 20x20 size. If the ratio of rows to columns is altered, certain
letters will no longer match up within the wordserach. It is also possible to print the
wordsearch directly offline, cut it out, tape it to a piece of paper containing your “clues”
and photocopy it.
To make the wordsearch more challenging, you may provide the student with descriptive
clues for each word rather than the word itself. Be creative with this and have fun! In the
case of the present worksheet, the wordsearch contains the names of famous people and
characters. This activity can, however, be modified to suit any lesson topic. It all depends
on which words you choose for the wordsearch.

The present crossword was created at www.crosswordpuzzlegames.com/create.html. The
resulting crossword was then inserted into Microsoft Word for the purpose of greater
formatting freedom. Two pictures were added to make the worksheet more visually
attractive. This is especially important when working with younger learners.
While the present worksheet focuses on winter-related vocabulary, the general concept of
this worksheet can be easily modified to focus on a variety of grammatical or lexical
topics. In addition, there are ready-to-print winter-related crosswords available at
http://bogglesworldesl.com/winter_worksheets.htm. The advantage of creating your own
crossword, however, is a greater freedom to adjust the level of difficulty.

How to prepare:
The story in this worksheet was found at www.elcivics.com/worksheets/reading.html under “camping”. While the story online precedes a true/false activity, you can easily
create a sequencing exercise by inserting the original story into Microsoft Word. The
current worksheet, for instance, eliminated the true/false activity and instead created a
sequencing exercise including images found online. The lexis within the story can also be
modified to match a variety of student levels.

broken. The other driver is even more upset. His car was brand new! He was driving
home (to/from) the car dealership. Bob has car insurance, but his insurance rate is going
to go (up/over) now because this accident will be (with/on) his record. Bob called the
police (in/on) his cell phone, and they are on their way. He also called his insurance

The following story was found at http://www.elcivics.com/ under “ESL worksheets” on
the main page and then “short stories.” The direct link to the short stories page is
http://www.elcivics.com/worksheets/reading.html. The present worksheet can be found
by clicking “car accident.” While these stories are great for reading lessons, editing the
content of the story to suit other lesson needs is possible. For instance, to make the
existing worksheet more challenging, the story was edited and a “choose the correct
preposition” activity was added. Furthermore, since the picture from the original file did
not copy into Microsoft Word, another picture was downloaded and inserted into the
worksheet to make it more attractive to younger learners.

The narrative for the present worksheet was taken from Raymond Murphy‟s English
Grammar in Use. Similar stories, however, can be found online from websites such as
http://www.elcivics.com/worksheets/reading.html or http://www.rong-chang.com/
children/index.htm.
To create a grammar worksheet, simply ask the student to change each verb into a new
tense. In the present worksheet, for instance, the student is asked to rewrite each verb
used in the short story in its past simple form. This type of worksheet can be modified to
suit a variety of lesson aims.

How to prepare it:
The original idea for this worksheet was found at www.onestopenglish.com under
vocabulary lesson plans. The direct link to the file is: www.onestopenglish.com
/skills/vocabulary/vocabulary-lesson-plans/british-english-vocabulary-lessons/britishenglish-vocabulary-lessons-the-letter-m/154170.article. Exercise 5 of the first lesson plan
(“British English: Money – worksheet and teacher's notes”) provides a matching activity
consisting of categorical descriptions as well as a list of money-related lexis.
To create the present worksheet, the abovementioned matching activity was modified by
adding a wordsearch for each category. Each wordsearch was created at the following
website: http://puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com/WordSearchSetupForm.asp. This
type of worksheet can be easily adjusted to suit a variety of lesson topics by simply
changing the selected categories and lexis.
