Having grown up on golf courses
myself, I very much appreciated being
invited to write the foreword to this
guide to golf courses in the Czech
Republic. This year is my fourth on the
Ladies European Tour and I’ve played
golf all over the world. But I still look
forward to the greens at home most
of all.
I first held a club in my hands as
4 year-old at the golf resort in
Karlštejn, I earned my handicap card
at Líšnice and I most enjoy playing
and training at the Black Bridge resort
in Prague. I have especially lovely
memories of my time playing amateur
tournaments at the courses in Karlovy
Vary and Mariánské Lázně. I hope that
you will like these and many other
great courses in the Czech Republic just
as much as I do.
The Czech Republic is a country tailormade for golf. You can play on close
to a 100 unique golf courses offering
high-quality services and beautiful
surroundings that combine picturesque
nature and cultural landmarks. I’m
sure you too will be enchanted by what
golf has to offer here. I have no doubt
that you will be glad to return to the
Czech Republic for golf and that you will
experience the beauty of the sport here.

ich wurde freundlicherweise gebeten,
das Vorwort zu diesem Golf-Führer für
Plätze in der Tschechischen Republik
zu schreiben. Die hiesigen Golfplätze
haben für mich eine große Bedeutung,
schließlich bin ich auf ihnen groß
geworden. In diesem Jahr absolviere
ich schon zum vierten Mal die Ladies
European Tour. Golf habe ich auf der
ganzen Welt gespielt, und dennoch
freue ich mich am meisten auf den
heimischen Rasen.
Als Vierjährige habe ich zum ersten
Mal einen Golfschläger in die Hand
genommen. Das war auf dem GolfResort in Karlstein. Die Grüne
Karte und das Handicap habe ich in
Líšnice abgelegt, und heute spiele
und trainiere ich am liebsten auf dem
Golf-Resort Black Bridge in Prag.
Außergewöhnlich schöne Erinnerungen
aus der Zeit, als ich noch AmateurWettbewerbe gespielt habe, habe ich
an die Golfplätze in Karlsbad und
Marienbad. Ich hoffe, dass auch Ihnen
diese und alle anderen ausgezeichneten
Plätze in Tschechien genauso gefallen
werden wie mir. Tschechien ist das
„Gelobte Land des Golfes“. Spielen
können Sie auf nicht weniger als
Einhundert einzigartigen Golfplätzen,
die einen ausgezeichneten Service
und ein wunderschönes Umfeld
bieten, in dem sich eine malerische
Natur und Kulturdenkmäler auf so
einmalige Weise ergänzen. Ganz
sicher verzaubern die hiesigen
Golf-Möglichkeiten auch Sie. Ich
bin überzeugt, dass auch Sie zum

The Czech Republic,
the Country of Golf
Among foreign visitors, the Czech
Republic is especially popular for its
magnificent historical monuments,
with Prague being considered, not
by chance, one of the most beautiful
European metropolises. Nevertheless,
it is not only Prague that has great
tourist attractions to offer – our
country, situated in the very heart of
Europe and with a population of about
10.5 million, is very rich in them. You
will find golf courses offering good play
near some of these monuments as well.
For example, the views of Karlštejn, the
majestic castle of Czech kings that can
be enjoyed directly from the Karlštejn
course, are unforgettable.
Golf has witnessed a great upswing
over the past two and a half decades
following the fall of the communist
regime, which had adversely affected
this sport’s development in the former
Czechoslovakia. New golf courses are
being built every year and the number
of players, especially weekend golfers,
is growing.
The first golf course on the territory
of the present-day Czech Republic
was established in Karlovy Vary in
1904. The golf course in Marianské
Lázně was opened by the king of Great
Britain, Edward VII, a year later. Both
courses were used mostly by foreign
spa visitors and only rarely by local
players. The beginnings of truly Czech
golf are connected with the activities
of the Ringhoffer family just before
the First World War. In 1926, these
activities led to the founding of the first
Czech golf club, Golf Club Praha, which
built its course in Prague-Motol and
organized the first tournament there in
1927. At the moment there are 101 golf
courses in the Czech Republic, some
of them ranking among the first-class
European golf venues. This is evidenced
by the fact that the European PGA Tour
tournaments will take place regularly in
the Czech Republic until at least 2018 at
the Albatross Golf Resort. This course,
just like all the other courses in the Czech
Republic, is also open to the public. It is
worth visiting some of them.

Die Tschechische Republik ist
besonders wegen ihrer prunkvollen
Kulturdenkmäler ein beliebtes
Touristenziel, und Prag gilt nicht
ohne Grund als eine der schönsten
Städte in Europa. Aber nicht nur Prag,
sondern das ganze im Herzen Europas
gelegene Land mit seinen etwa 10,5
Millionen Einwohnern bietet großartige
Touristen-Attraktionen. Unweit der
Sehenswürdigkeiten sind häufig auch
Golfplätze zu finden, die zu einer Partie
Golf einladen. So ist beispielsweise die
Aussicht auf die majestätische Burg der
böhmischen Könige, Karlštejn, die Sie
vom Karlštejn-Golfplatz aus genießen
können, absolut unvergesslich.
Der Golfsport in Tschechien erlebt
bereits seit zwei Jahrzehnten, seit dem
Zusammenbruch des Kommunismus,
einen rasanten Aufschwung. Jedes
Jahr werden neue Golfplätze errichtet
und die Zahl der Golfbegeisterten,
insbesondere der Freizeitgolfer, steigt.
Der erste Golfplatz auf dem
Hoheitsgebiet der heutigen
Tschechischen Republik entstand
1904 in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad). Nur
ein Jahr später eröffnete Eduard VII.,
König des Vereinigten Königreichs
von Großbritannien, den Golfplatz in
Mariánské Lázně (Marienbad). Beide
Golfplätze wurden hauptsächlich von
ausländischen Kurgästen und nur
selten von Einheimischen genutzt.
Die Entwicklung des tschechischen
Golfs begann kurz vor dem Ausbruch
des Ersten Weltkriegs dank des
Engagements der Familie Ringhoffer.
Im Jahr 1926 wurde dann schließlich
der erste tschechische Golfclub “Golf
Club Praha” gegründet, der einen
Golfplatz im Prager Stadtteil Motol
errichten ließ, wo auch 1927 das erste
Turnier stattfand.
Zur Zeit gibt es in Tschechien
101 Golfplätze, einige davon gehören
zu den europäischen Spitzen-Plätzen.
Davon zeugt auch die Tatsache, dass
in Tschechien regelmäßig - mindestens
bis zum Jahre 2018 - auf dem Platz
Albatross Golf Resort die Serie
European PGA Tour stattfinden wird.
Auf diesem Golfplatz, ebenso wie auch
auf allen anderen in der Tschechischen
Republik, können auch Freizeitgolfer
spielen. Ein Besuch dieser Golfplätze
lohnt sich auf alle Fälle.

Европы. Но не только Прага богата

мест намного больше. Недалеко от
некоторых расположились гольфплощадки, где можно получить
истинное удовольствие от этой
увлекательнейшей игры. Например,
невозможно забыть вид с гольфполя на величественный замок
чешских королей Карлштейн. За
последние двадцать лет, после
"бархатной" революции гольф в
Чехии процветает. Коммунисты этот
вид спорта не любили и не давали
ему развиваться. В настоящее время
с каждым годом в стране растёт
количество как гольф-площадок,
так и игроков, особенно любителей.
Первое гольф-поле на территории
современной Чехии

The Albatross Golf Resort opened
in 2010 as an 18-hole championship
course that is of the highest European
standard. It is a 30-minute drive
from the Prague city centre and
just 15 minutes from Václav Havel
International Airport. The resort also
has extensive practice facilities with
a state-of-the-art Golf Academy. The
Albatross twice hosted the Ladies
European Tour and in August 2014
a European Tour event. The resort was
voted Best Golf Course of the Year in
2011 and 2012, and the US magazine
Golf Digest rated the Albatross as the
best course in the Czech Republic.

The 9-hole course situated in the middle
of the city has in fact 12 holes, thanks
to three alternative holes (1b, 2b and
3b) making use of two beautiful hills on
the boundaries of the course. The “B”
option can be chosen even during regular
practice; you make your choice on the
teeing ground of the first hole. The “B”
option has been standardized, and two
types of scorecards are available at the
reception desk.

Resort Konopiště
One of the most beautiful golf resorts
in the Czech Republic is situated
south of Prague on the former
Tvoršovice domain, the history of
which dates back to the 10th century.
Two 18-hole championship courses
are imaginatively situated in slightly
undulating countryside, surrounded
by forests and plentiful bunkers,
as well as numerous water traps.
Generously modelled greens, wide
fairways and slightly broken terrain
are characteristic for the resort. The
“Radecký Course” is named after one
of the former owners of the domain,
the famous field marshal Jan Josef
Václav Radecký of Radeč, known for his
engagement in the Napoleonic wars.
The “D’Este Course” is named after
Archduke Franz Ferdinand d’Este, heir
to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian
Empire.

Golf Resort
The resort spreads over wooded and
hilly countryside. Karlštejn, a majestic
castle of Czech kings, makes
a unique and romantic background
for the course. The first 18 holes were
opened in 1993. Broken terrain,
a natural gully, two lakes as well as
numerous bunkers will satisfy even
the most demanding of players and
requires good physical condition.
Another “nine” was opened on the
southern slope of Voškov Hill in 2008.
Individual fairways are mostly situated
along contour lines.

Golf Resort
The Albatross Golf Resort opened
in 2010 as an 18-hole championship
course that is of the highest European
standard. It is a 30-minute drive
from the Prague city centre and
just 15 minutes from Václav Havel
International Airport. The resort also
has extensive practice facilities with
a state-of-the-art Golf Academy. The
Albatross twice hosted the Ladies
European Tour and in August 2014
a European Tour event. The resort was
voted Best Golf Course of the Year in
2011 and 2012, and the US magazine
Golf Digest rated the Albatross as the
best course in the Czech Republic.

The golf resort spreads out in the surroundings of the mythical Řip Mountain.
During their game, players encounter
large greens, numerous bunkers located
on fairways as well as close to putting

terrain is just slightly undulating. The

Golf Club
12 Molitorov
The golf course complex, spread
over 60 hectares, is partly situated
in orchards. Eighteen holes possess
all the attributes that a golf course
should have. The landscape is typical
of the Labe River lowlands, with
numerous rows of tree, some holes
being situated directly in a cherry
orchard. The shortest hole, measured
from the ladies‘ tee, is 99 metres long,
and the longest hole is hole No. 4, par
5, 530 metres long measured from
the championship tees. The course is
situated close to Prague, yet away from
all the hustle and bustle.
Der 60 ha große Golfplatz befindet sich
inmitten von Obstgärten in der ElbeTiefebene. Die 18 Löcher lassen keine
Wünsche offen. Der Golfplatz weist
zahlreiche Baumreihen auf,
einige Löcher befinden sich sogar
mitten im Kirschgarten. Das kürzeste
Loch ist 99 m vom Damenabschlag
entfernt, das längste Loch, die Nummer
4, Par 5, hat eine Länge von 530 m
ab dem Turnierabschlag. Der Golfplatz
befindet sich ganz in der Nähe von
Prag und liegt trotzdem fern aller
Großstadthektik.

The 18-hole course situated
in the vicinity of Prague is suitable
for beginners as well as experienced
golfers. Its philosophy was inspired
by classic Scottish links courses
and clubs with long traditions. The
course spreads over slightly
undulating terrain; its fairways
are lined with tall grass and thick
bushes. Modelled putting greens
are mostly protected by well-located
bunkers that also border challenging
spots on the fairways.

Poděbrady
Golf has been played here since 1969;
the 18-hole course was finished in
2000. Thanks to the mild climate, it
is possible to play here nearly all year
round. The main building is a superb
example of architecture and was
designed by the Prague architect
B. Kozák; its construction started in
1922. The building was constructed
in a purely Czech style known as
Rondocubism, where the sharp edges
of pyramids and prisms alternate with
spheres, cylinders and half-cylinders.
Hier wird bereits seit dem Jahr 1969
Golf gespielt; der 18-Loch-Golfplatz
wurde im Jahr 2000 fertig gestellt.
Dank des milden Klimas kann man
hier fast das ganze Jahr über Golf
spielen. Das Hauptgebäude ist eine
architektonische Besonderheit und
wurde 1922 vom Prager Architekten
B. Kozák entworfen. Der Baustil
nennt sich Rondokubismus und ist
typisch für Tschechien. Seinen Namen
erhielt der Rondokubismus wegen der
bevorzugten Verwendung
(halb-) runder beziehungsweise
zylindrischer Ornamente.
Гольф Клуб «Подебрады» имеет
долгую традицию. Он был открыт
в 1969 году, а 18-луночное поле
было построено в 2000 году.
Климат местности – умеренный,
благодаря чему здесь можно играть
практически круглый год. Главное
здание клуба, спроектированнoе
в 1922 году знаменитым зодчим
Б. Козаком, является жемчужиной
архитектуры. Здание построено
в уникальном рондо-кубистическом
стиле, в котором острые грани
пирамиды чередуются с формами
шара, цилиндра и полуцилиндра.

The first part of the 18-hole course,
the par-72 9-hole – one of the longest
in the Czech Republic –
was first opened in 2000. Nine new
holes requiring more precision were
opened in 2008. Therefore, each of
the “nines” provides a slightly different
experience. The course has
long, technically challenging holes
situated between lakes and wooded
areas. The clubhouse terrace overlooks
the final green, situated
on a “peninsula”.
Der erste Teil dieses 18-LochGolfplatzes, der 9-Loch Platz, Par 72,
ist einer der längsten Golfplätze
in der Tschechischen Republik
und wurde im Jahr 2000 eröffnet.
2008 kamen weitere 9 Löcher hinzu,
die eine größere Richtungsgenauigkeit
erfordern. Daher bietet jede
der 9-Loch-Anlagen einen
unterschiedlichen Schwierigkeitsgrad.
Der Golfplatz kombiniert lange und
technisch anspruchsvolle Löcher,
die sich zwischen Wasser- und
Waldgebieten befinden. Der Clubraum
mit Terrasse bietet eine herrliche
Aussicht auf das letzte Green, das sich
auf einer Art Halbinsel befindet.

18-луночным гольф-полем (первая
«девятка» – пар 72), которое
является одним из самых
длинных в Чехии. Часть гольф-поля
была спроектирована в 2000
году, с 2008 площадка была
расширена ещё на 9 лунок,
технически более сложных. Обе
«девятки» поэтому отличаются.
Гольф-площадка совмещает
длинные и технически сложные
лунки, расположенные между
водоёмами и лесными участками.

27 Resort Darovanský dvůr
The golf resort offers a 27-hole course,
which is a combination of a park- and
a links-type course. Players can choose
from various combinations of three
championship “nines” – “Panorama”,
“Svatá Anna” and “Jezírka”. The
original design of the 18-hole course
was further modified in 2004 – 2009.
The entire course can be classified as
medium in terms of difficulty. Kamil
Pilát participated in designing the
course during the initial phase of the
project implementation, while the final
design and shape of the course are
the work of a Scottish architect, Chris
Johnson.

This 18-hole golf course, standardized
in 2010, is situated in a beautiful
chateau park founded by Chancellor
Metternich. The scenery is complemented by a Classicist chateau. Fairways
use the natural shape of the terrain and
feature numerous water traps.

Sokolovská uhelná, a.s. built this 18hole course with large greens, deep
bunkers, long undulating fairways and
hard roughs on land where brown coal
was mined in the past. The difference
between the lowest and highest point of
the course is 42 metres. Holes are
nicely modelled. The course was designed by the successful German company Städler Golf Courses, which has
already designed over 40 golf courses.

course with luxurious facilities is one
of the best that the Czech Republic can
offer. The golf course is
situated by Ejpovice Lake and is
sensitively incorporated into the
natural landscape, with abundant lush

experience for players, the varying
holes, especially hole No. 11 with its

The oldest Czech golf club was opened
in 1904. The existing golf course,
upgraded on several occasions, has
been in use since 1933. The course
is situated along the main road
between Prague and Karlovy Vary in
the beautiful landscape of the Krušné
Mountains. It ranks among the best
golf courses in the Czech Republic.
There is a relaxation centre located
right in the clubhouse. The course
provides a habitat for a critically
endangered animal, the European
ground squirrel, which is considered to
be the club’s mascot.

wurde 1904 eröffnet. Seine aktuelle
Gestalt hat der Platz seit 1933.
Er befindet sich in der Nähe der
Schnellstraße zwischen Prag und
Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) in der
wunderschönen Natur des Erzgebirges
und gehört zu den besten Golfplätzen
in der Tschechischen Republik.
Im Clubhaus befindet sich ein
Wellnessbereich. Da sich auf dem Platz
auch eine äußerst bedrohte Tierart, der
europäische Ziesel, wohlfühlt, wurde
dieses Tier zum Maskottchen des Clubs
ernannt.

The oldest course in the Czech Republic
was opened by King Edward VII on
21 August 1905. In 2003 HRH
Elizabeth II granted the golf club
the right to use the title “Royal”. Its
location 787 metres above sea level, the
flat terrain with 18 holes, the beautiful
natural landscape with full grown trees,
as well as the historical club house
recreate the spirit of old Scottish and
Irish courses.

situated in the mountains, there are no
typical elevation differences. Natural
conditions on the northern slope of
Ještěd Mountain contribute
to modelling of the holes.

This 18-hole championship course
is located on the outskirts of Ústí
nad Labem, surrounded by the wild
countryside of north Bohemia. A
rugged course with marked changes
in elevation, it is dominated by a large
natural lake. The first “nine” present
varied fairways. The teeing areas
mostly consist of terraces, opening
up wistful views of the forested
surroundings. Most of the second
“nine” are located in proximity to
the lake, which is used for sport and
recreational fishing.

The largest golf resort in East Bohemia
is situated close to Jaroměř. There are
free “nines” (The Bohemian Garden,
Maple Hills, Woodland) featuring wide
fairways, exceptionally broad, flat and
fast greens and a 9-hole academy.
Woodland, with its large elevation
differences and challenging fairway
profiles, is considered to be the most
difficult course in the Czech Republic.
The Bohemian Garden, on the other
hand, is one of the easiest.

This 18-hole course was built by
extending the original “nine” in 2009.
The original “nine” is relatively short
(2,375 m), while the second one is
somewhat longer (3,000 m). Elevation
changes play an important role at all
the holes, as the course spreads over
the foothills overlooking the beautiful
natural landscape of the Krkonoše
Mountains. Shots where the ball
is below or above your feet are not
unusual. Available are a 6-hole driving
range and newly also a four-star hotel.
2009 wurde dieser Golfplatz von einem
9-Loch-Platz zu einem 18-Loch-Platz
ausgebaut. Die ursprüngliche 9 LochBahn ist relativ kurz (2375 m),
der zweite Teil ist deutlich länger
(3000 m). Bei allen Löchern spielt
der Höhenunterschied eine große
Rolle, denn der Platz liegt am Fuße
des herrlichen Riesengebirges.
Abschläge von Positionen, bei denen
sich der Golfball ober- oder unterhalb
von einem selbst befindet, sind keine
Ausnahme. Zur Verfügung stehen
auch eine 6-Loch Driving Range
und seit kurzem auch ein

The golf course in Svachova Lhotka just
outside Český Krumlov is an original
South Bohemian combination of flat
and undulating greens, short as well
as long par-4 and several par-3 holes.
The two best known holes – 8 and
18 – are situated near the hotel
complex and are a memorable
experience for players. There are no
championship tees and the length
of the course is nowhere near
6,000 metres; this, however, makes the
course a favourite place for golfers with
a double-digit handicap, or newcomers
to the world of golf, as they do not have
to fire their ball 250 meters with their
first swing. The course was built in the
years 2004–2008.

The name of the place, “Čertovo břemeno” (Devil’s Burden), is associated
with a nearby rock. Rocks from the
Devil’s Burden are scattered over the
18-hole course, contributing to its
unique character. Holes situated in the
beautiful landscape of the Jistebnická
vrchovina Highlands are shorter,
but technically challenging, with the
elevation difference between the lowest
and highest point being 23 meters.

This 18-hole course is to be found in
the village of Kestřany, between the
ancient towns of Písek and Strakonice.
It lies in the romantic South Bohemian
countryside, bounded by woods,
meadows and fields, and includes two
fish ponds. Thanks to both natural
and man-made pitfalls, the course
represents a challenge to every player.
The Japanese architect
Shunsuke Kato drew on the natural
meditative character of the local
landscape when working on the
design of the first “nine”. Many of
the holes are closed in by woods,
creating an intimate space for perfect
concentration while playing.

situated in the picturesque countryside
of the Beskydy Mountains make

Jiménez. The “Old Course”, formally
opened for the high-profile occasion
of the European PGA Tour 2009,
will challenge golfers at all levels. Its
narrow fairways and masterly situated

first nine holes of the “New Course”

situated 12 kilometres from downtown
Olomouc is one of the nicest in the
country. There are numerus water traps
and bunkers, and from some spots
there are beautiful views of the Haná
region and the city of Olomouc. The
course spreads over almost 80 hectares

fairways, and large modelled greens.

The golf resort is situated in the village
of Ropice near the Slovak and Polish
borders. This 18-hole links type course,
featuring water traps, numerous bunkers,
undulating fairways and interesting
greens, looks out at the Slezské Beskydy
mountain range, which is dominated
by Javorovy vrch Mountain. The first
“nine” is more hilly and exciting, while
the last three holes underlining the
overall impression from the play and
are the real jewels of the course.

par 3, is situated in a chateau garden

located among wine cellars in the small
village of Těšetice, 10 km from Znojmo
in the direction of Moravský Krumlov.
In 2014 its 9-hole course with a 503-m
5-par hole was standardized. A driving
range with 11 tees is in operation.

среди винных погребков в крошечной
деревушке Тешетице (Těšetice)

лунками, помимо бункеров, появился

can be found in the very heart of the
Slovácko region. The course offers views
of Buchlov Castle. Situated in a lowland
area, it has an easy profile, a number
