Rudolf Firkušný (1912 – 1994) patří mezi nejvýznamnější světové klavíristy
20. století. Jeho první hudební kroky vedli Leoš Janáček, Vilém Kurz a Josef Suk.
Svou hvězdnou kariéru nastartoval koncertem v roce 1941 v New Yorku, kdy ho
v publiku podpořili největší pianisté své doby: Rudolf Serkin, Arthur Rubinstein
a Vladimir Horowitz. V roce 1946 ozdobil třemi koncerty první ročník festivalu
Pražské jaro. Po komunistickém převratu v roce 1948 se rozhodl pro emigraci.
České publikum jej mělo možnost znovu slyšet až v roce 1990, kdy se symbolicky
- po více než čtyřiceti letech - odehrálo jeho první vystoupení ve svobodném
Československu opět na Pražském jaru. Tehdy se na pódiu setkal se svým dávným
přítelem, dirigentem Rafaelem Kubelíkem. Klavírní festival nesoucí jeho jméno vstupuje v roce 2015 do svého třetího
ročníku. Za sebou má triumfální vystoupení Berlínských filharmoniků se
Sirem Simonem Rattlem a klavíristou Ivo Kahánkem, recitály Emanuela Axe,
Pierra-Laurenta Aimarda, Lukáše Vondráčka, Giovanni Bellucciho, Lise
de la Salle a dalších skvělých světových pianistů. Festival potvrzuje, že čtyři

Rudolf Firkušný (1912 – 1994) was one of the world’s most important
20 th century pianists. His first musical steps were guided by Leoš Janáček,
Vilém Kurz, and Josef Suk. He launched his brilliant career with a concert
in New York in 1941, when he was publicly supported by the greatest pianists
of his time: Rudolf Serkin, Arthur Rubinstein, and Vladimir Horowitz.
In 1946 he graced the first annual Prague Spring festival with three concerts.
After the Communist putsch in 1948, he chose to emigrate. The Czech public
did not get another chance to hear him until 1990 when – after more than forty
years – his symbolic first appearance in liberated Czechoslovakia took place
again at Prague Spring, where he joined his old friend, the conductor Rafael
Kubelík, on stage. In 2015, the piano festival bearing his name is entering its third season.
It has already presented a triumphal appearance by the Berlin Philharmonic
with Sir Simon Rattle and the pianist Ivo Kahánek and recitals by Emanuel Ax,
Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Lukáš Vondráček, Giovanni Bellucci, Lise de la Salle,
and other wonderful pianists from around the world. The festival has proven
that four evenings focusing exclusively on piano music within the space of a single
week can offer a truly exceptional demonstration of unique approaches to
interpretation, differences of temperament, and diverse ways of playing.

„…Z víru tónů spřádá hudbu s jemností, která hraničí s uvěřitelností,“ napsaly
o něm Los Angeles Times. Rezidenční umělec Newyorské filharmonie v sezóně
2013-2014, držitel Avery Fisher Prize a Ceny Grammy patří mezi absolutní
pianistickou elitu současnosti. Narodil se v Taškentu, ve svých 15 letech
emigroval do Izraele. Na slavné Juilliard School byl žákem Rudolfa Firkušného,
Leona Fleishera a Rudolfa Serkina. Hostoval prakticky na všech prestižních
světových pódiích, od BBC Proms až po Salcburk. V Praze uvede mimo jiné tři
sonáty Sergeje Prokofjeva, v jejichž interpretaci dnes tento famózní technik
s velkým srdcem jen stěží nachází konkurenci.
Říká se o něm, že více než kdo jiný vyrůstá z bohaté ruské interpretační tradice.
„Je velmi těžké definovat, čím je Grigorij Sokolov tak výjimečný. Jen cítíte, že jste
součástí něčeho naprosto jedinečného, že vás vede až k samotnému srdci hudebního
vyjádření,“ zhodnotila kritika jeho recitál na Salcburském festivalu, jehož nahrávku
vydal v lednu 2015 label Deutsche Grammophon. V 16 letech se stal, jako nejmladší
v historii, vítězem Čajkovského soutěže v Moskvě, kdy porotě předsedal slavný
Emil Gilels. Od té doby je již téměř 50 let pravidelným hostem nejslavnějších
světových pódií. Je jiný, je svůj, je neuchopitelný. Nenechte si proto jeho pražský

Působí skromně až plaše. Za sebou má však fenomenální úspěchy. Je laureátem
Čajkovského soutěže v Moskvě, soutěže Pražského jara, soutěže královny Alžběty
v Bruselu a soutěže Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud v Paříži. S Rudolfem
Firkušným ho pojí nejen brněnské kořeny, ale i společná čtyřruční nahrávka
Janáčkovy předehry Žárlivost. Jeho hudební cítění je výsostně svébytné, osobité
ve frázování, ovlivněné hlubokou introspekcí. Z každého tónu cítíte, jak bohatý
je vnitřní život tohoto umělce. Stejně tak rozmanitý program představí v Praze.
Program, který dává vyniknout jeho nenapodobitelnému smyslu pro barvy, pro
detail. Program, který dokáže právě on udělat nezapomenutelným.
Je symbolem mladé generace. Svou temperamentní hrou, která nezapře její
gruzínský původ, si podmaňuje srdce posluchačů od San Francisca až po Londýn.
Účinkovala na BBC Proms, Progetto Martha Argerich, v Carnegie Hall v New
Yorku, na festivalech v Salcburku, Aspenu, Bad Kissingenu ad. V letech 2009-2011
byla zařazena do programu BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist. V roce 2010
obdržela cenu Borletti-Buitoni Trust a byla nominována na cenu vídeňského
Musikvereinu a Konzerthausu v kategorii „Vycházející hvězdy sezóny 2011-2012“.
V roce 2012 bylo její umění korunováno prestižní německou cenou ECHO
Klassik (obdoba americké Grammy). V Praze nabídne Khatia Buniatishvili
program hodný jejího temperamentu, s virtuózním Petruškou na závěr.

whirl of notes that bordered on the unbelievable.” An artist in residence for
the New York Philharmonic in the 2013-2014 season and a Avery Fisher Prize
and Grammy Award winner, he is one of the truly elite pianists of today. Born
in Tashkent, he emigrated to Israel at the age of 15. At the famed Juilliard School,
he was a pupil of Rudolf Firkušný, Leon Fleisher, and Rudolf Serkin. He has
made guest appearances on practically all of the world's prestigious stages, from
the BBC Proms to Salzburg. His Prague performance will include three sonatas
by Sergei Prokofiev. One can hardly find a pianist today whose interpretations
of Prokofiev can compete with those of this famous technician with a big heart.
More than anyone else, he is said to be a product of Russia’s rich tradition of musical
performing. According to a critic at his recital at the Salzburg Festival, “It’s very
hard to define what makes Grigory Sokolov so special. You just feel that you are
a part of something absolutely unique, that he is taking you to the very heart
of musical expression.” A recording of that performance was issued in January
2015 on the Deutsche Grammophon label. At the age of 16, he became the youngest
winner in the history of the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, when
the illustrious pianist Emil Gilels was the chairman of the jury. During
the nearly fifty years since then, he has conquered the world’s most famous
stages. He is special, unique, elusive. So don’t miss his Prague recital!
While he makes a modest, almost shy impression, he has enjoyed phenomenal success. He is a laureate of the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow,
the Prague Spring Competition, the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels,
and the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris. He is associated
with Rudolf Firkušný not only because of his Brno roots, but also because of
a recording they made together of an arrangement for piano duet of the Janáček
overture Jealousy. His musical feeling is highly individual, original in its phrasing,
influenced by deep introspection. From every note, you can sense the wealth
of this artist’s inner life. The programme that he will be presenting in Prague is
just as diverse, highlighting his inimitable feeling for color and detail. And he is just
the pianist to make this programme unforgettable.
A symbol of the younger generation, her spirited playing bears undeniable witness
to her Georgian origins, and she has captivated the hearts of listeners from
San Francisco to London. She has performed at the BBC Proms, the Progetto Martha
Argerich, Carnegie Hall in New York, and festivals including Salzburg, Aspen,
and Bad Kissingen. From 2009 until 2011, she was included in the BBC Radio 3
New Generation Artist programme. In 2010 she won the Borletti-Buitoni Trust
award, and she was nominated for the prize of the Viennese Musikverein and
Konzerthaus in the category for “Rising Stars of the 2011-2012 Season.”
In 2012, her artistry was honored by the prestigious German prize ECHO
Klassik (analogous to an American Grammy). In Prague, Khatia Buniatishvili
will be presenting a programme that perfectly fits her temperament, with
Stravinsky’s virtuosic Petrushka at the conclusion.
