Metodický pokyn
Materiál je určen k procvičování slovní zásoby a
praktických komunikačních dovedností v oblasti sociální
péče – Práce s pachateli trestných činů (ESP – English for
specific purposes – Social Care)
Žáci pracují s daným materiálem nejprve individuálně a
potom téma probírají ve skupině. Mohou použít slovník.
Součástí vzdělávacího materiálu je i metodický list pro
učitele s klíčem.
Work with criminal offenders
Experts say in spite of all efforts to prevent crime and educate people to be good, prisons are
necessary. They are still the best way to fight with some forms of crime. All punishments should fulfil
a few functions. First it is revenge. Both the offenders and people around need to see crimes do not
pay and victims need to see the offender is really punished. The stay in prison can also protect other
people from criminals and above all in cases when no change is possible, for example in case of
psychopaths, those people stay in prison for the rest of their lives. However, if everybody who does
something against the law should stay in prison forever it would be too expensive so another function
of prison should be work with the people in order to change them. The time in prison should not be
lost completely. The best is when people can work there. The stay in prison is not for free and offenders
have to pay for their expenses so if they do not work they often leave prison with debts, which can
complicate their lives long in the future. But many prisons do not have work for their inmates. All
inmates also should have a chance to talk about what they did and about the future to sort out their
thoughts. They should see life without crime can be satisfactory as well. At least some of them do not
want to return to prison again and they should have a chance to plan their life outside. After leaving
the biggest problem is accommodation. If their family rejects them they often have to look for a place
in asylum homes and homes “in the middle of the way.” It will not also be easy for them to find a job
and earn some money and establish their lives again. As it is not easy to pass this period they should
get ready for it already in prison in specialized programmes before their releasing.
