Gérard LONGUET

Gérard LONGUET se narodil 24. února 1946 v Neuilly nad Seinou na pařížském předměstí.
Je absolventem Institutu politických studií v Paříži, vystudoval sociologii a postgraduální
studium v oboru politologie. Později byl přijat na Národní školu veřejné správy (ENA), kterou
dokončil v roce 1973.
Svoji profesní kariéru začal jako podprefekt. První poslanecký mandát získal po svém zvolení
v roce 1978 za volební obvod Bar-le-Duc v okrese Meuse. Tuto funkci zastával v letech 1978
až 1981 a poté znovu od roku 1986 do 1993. Mezi lety 1984 a 1986 působil jako poslanec
v Evropském parlamentu.
V letech 1986 až 1994 zastával celkem třikrát ministerský úřad. Od března do srpna roku
1986 působil jako Státní tajemník pro pošty a telekomunikace a následně, od roku 1986 do
1988, jako náměstek ministra průmyslu, pošt a telekomunikací. Od roku 1993 do 1994
zastával úřad minisra průmyslu, pošt a telekomunikací a zahraničního obchodu. V této funkci
byl hlavním vyjednavačem Marakéšské smlouvy, která dala formálně vznik Světové obchodní
organizaci.
V roce 1990 byl zvolen předsedou Republikánské strany (UDF) a na tomto postu setrval až do
roku 1995.
Od roku 2004 působí jako politiký poradce Svazu pro lidové hnutí (UMP). Až do jmenování
do současné funkce byl senátorem za okres Meuse (od roku 2001) a od roku 2009 předsedal
senátnímu klubu Svazu pro lidové hnutí (UMP).
Tento otec čtyř dcer má vášeň pro historii, plachtění a mechaniku a sám si postavil i svoji
první plachetnici. Od jeho založení v roce 1988 je předsedou Světového střediska míru ve
Verdunu (v Meuse), kde uvítal mnoho mezinárodních osobností, včetně generálního
tajemníka OSN a prezidenta Bouteflika.

Gérard LONGUET est né le 24 février 1946 à Neuilly s/Seine (banlieue parisienne).
Diplômé de l’Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, titulaire d’un diplôme de sociologie et d’un
DESS de Sciences politiques, il est ensuite admis à l’ENA dont il sort en 1973.
Il débute sa carrière professionnelle comme sous-préfet. Il est élu pour la première fois à la
députation en 1978 dans la circonscription de Bar-le-Duc en Meuse ; il occupe cette fonction
de 1978 à 1981 puis de 1986 à 1993. Il est également député européen de 1984 à 1986.
Entre 1986 et 1994 il fut ministre à trois reprises. Secrétaire d’Etat, chargé des Postes et
télécommunications, de mars à août 1986 ; ministre délégué auprès du ministre de l’Industrie,
des Postes et Télécommunications, de 1986 à 1988 ; ministre de l’Industrie, des Postes et
Télécommunications et du Commerce extérieur de 1993 à 1994. A ce titre il a été le principal
négociateur du traité de Marrakech qui a créé l’OMC.
Il est élu Président du Parti Républicain (UDF) en 1990 jusqu’en 1995.
Il est conseiller politique de l’UMP depuis 2004. Il était jusqu’à ce jour sénateur de la Meuse,
depuis 2001, et présidait le groupe UMP du Sénat depuis 2009.
Ce père de quatre filles est un passionné d’histoire, de voile et de mécanique, il a construit luimême son premier voilier. Il préside le Centre de la Paix à Verdun (Meuse) depuis sa création
en 1988 où il a accueilli de nombreuses personnalités internationales dont le Secrétaire
général de l’ONU et le Président Bouteflika.

Gerard Longuet was born on February 24th, 1946 in Neuilly sur Seine (close vicinity of Paris).
He graduated the Paris Institute of Political Science; he holds a diploma in sociology as well
as a post-graduate in political science; he was admitted to Ecole Nationale d’Administration,
which he graduated in 1973.
He started his professional career as a Sous-Préfet. He was elected Deputy for the first time in
Bar-le-Duc (Lorraine) in 1978, as mandate he held from 1978 to 1981 and from 1986 to 1993.
He was also a Member of the European Parliament from 1984 to 1986.
Between 1986 and 1994, he was appointed minister on three occasions: Junior minister for
Post office and Telecommunications services (March-August 1986); Junior minister to the
minister for Industry, Post office and Telecommunications services (1986 – 1988); minister
for Industry, Post office, Telecommunications services and International Trade (1993 – 1994).
As such, he was the main negotiator of the Marrakech treaty, which gave birth to the WTO.
He was elected as President of the Republican Party in 1990, and remained in this position
until 1995.
He has been a political advisor in the UMP party since 2004. Until being appointed to his
current position, he had been a senator of the Meuse department since 2001, and had been
chairing the UMP parliamentary group of the Senate since 2009.
Gerard Longuet is a father of four daughters. He has a passion for history, sailing and
mechanics: he built his first sail-boat himself. He has been presiding over the World Centre
for Peace in Verdun since it was created in 1988, a place where he has received numerous
international personalities like the UN Secretary General and President Bouteflika.
