TRAVEL INSTRUCTION –FROM PRAGUE AIRPORT TO PARDUBICE Dear students, here you can find complete information how to get from Prague Václav Havel Airport to Pardubice, directly to the dormitories, where you are going to live during your stay in Pardubice. This document describes you the public transport in Prague, the train to Pardubice as well as the public transport system in Pardubice. Very shortly: 1. Bus line AE from Prague Airport to Prague Main railway station 2. The EuroCity or Express train from Prague to Pardubice 3. Trolleybus line 3 or 33 or bus line 10, 16, 17 or 23 or night service no. 98 from the railway station to the main campus where your dormitory is located (bus stops Polabiny,Hradecká, Univerzita and Polabiny, hotel) The ticket for the AE bus and the train can be purchased by train operator online. The ticket for the public transport in Pardubice can be bought from the ATM machine at the railway station. Detailed description of all the above steps follows: 1. From Prague Airport to the main railway station It isn't hard to get from Prague Airport to the railway station. Basically you land, collect all of your luggage, you can change some money at an exchange office at the airport terminal and find the bus stop. In case of not buying the ticket in advance in the e-shop buy your ticket in Prague Tourist Information Centre kiosk in arrival hall of Terminal 1 (photo is in the last chapter describing the ticket issues). The flights outside Schengen area and also few low-cost flights inside Schengen area are operated from Terminal 1, the flights inside Schengen area are usually operated from Terminal 2 (Prague Airport has 3 terminals, Terminal 3 is designed for private flights). It is very easy to find the bus stop. The bus stops by both terminals, the bus stops are located in front of the buildings. The arrival hall is in the ground level so you only need to get outside the building and you’ll see the bus stop while having the cigarette break. If you arrive to Terminal 1, you have to use the bus stop named Terminál 1 marked by G. As you can see in the picture, it is the rightmost bus stop when leaving the terminal building. If you arrive to Terminal 2, the bus stop Terminál 2 has 3 bus stops marked A, B, C. You have to choose the one marked B, it is the second one. The situation is clearly shown in the picture below (your route and bus stop painted by red color in the picture). The bus stops are marked with red color, every bus stop is equipped with the overview of lines serving this bus stop. The Terminál 1 and Terminál 2 bus stops have also the digital table showing the times of upcoming buses (the departures of your recommended line AE are marked with different color, orange one, because special tariff terms and conditions are applied in this bus). -1- http://ropid.cz/data/Galleries/59/77/d1901_3_Letiste_Vaclava_Havla_od_15_10.png (edited by the author) You can see the situation of the bus stop Terminál 2 in following picture: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/eb/Leti%C5%A1t%C4%9B_Ruzyn%C4%9B,_termin%C3%A1l_2,_autobusov%C3%A9_zast%C 3%A1vky.jpg -2- Airport Express line From that particular bus stop you have to take the bus to the main railway station. The bus is marked as line AE (abbreviation for Airport Express). The AE bus runs daily every 30 minutes. First bus leaves Terminál 1 stop at 5:30 a.m. (Terminál 2 stop at 5:32 a.m.), last one leaves Terminál 1 stop at 9:00 p.m. (Terminál 2 stop at 9:02 p.m.). The headway of 15 minutes will be operated after June 1st from 9:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m. This headway will be operated till September 30th. The AE bus goes through 2 stops between Terminál 2 stop and the Main Railway Station stop. You don't have to count the stops, the Main Railway Station stop is the terminal stop of the bus (and the stops on the routes are request stops, so you maybe won’t even stop there), the name of the terminal stop is Hlavní nádraží (Czech for Main station). The route takes about 30 – 40 minutes depending on the daytime and traffic intensity. The ticket for the AE line can be bought in advance online together with the train ticket from Prague to Pardubice (the cheapest way is to buy the ticket from Prague Airport directly to Pardubice, the ticket is then accepted in the bus as well as in the train, the tickets are described in the last chapter). http://www.fotodoprava.com/images_mhdpraha/ph3431v.jpg The bus and the marking are shown in the above picture. There is the sign of the train as the connection to the railway station as well as the texts in English (Main Station) and German (Hbf.). The line is usually served by the buses with grey-blue color and big texts Airport Express and buses with standard Prague colors – combination of red and black), but the information about the line in the information system of the bus is the same. The bus stop Hlavní nádraží is located in front of the building of railway station. You enter the building, get downstairs (there are escalators on both sides - about 5 meters -3- distanced from the building entrance). The escalator takes you to the railway station hall. You shouldn't have problems from this moment, all the signs and announcements at railway stations are in Czech as well as in English language. Other possibilities - taxi The other possibility how to get to the railway station is the taxi. There are marked places for the taxis at the airport, the airport is served by the company AAA taxi. If you order a taxi at the AAA radiotaxi information desk in the arrival hall, you will get a preferential service with a discount as well as a discount coupon for your next ride back to the airport. The price for the taxi from the airport to the main railway station is 500 – 550 CZK (approx. 20 €) plus 6 CZK (approx. 0.22 €) per every minute of possible waiting. The taxi drivers allowed to take the passengers at the airport must speak English. Other possibilities – public transportation services If you come to Prague too early or too late (first AE bus goes at 5:30 a.m., the last one at 9:00 p.m.) and you don’t want to use the taxi (which is quite expensive in comparison with the public transport), then you have to use the other lines of public transport, you can see the departure schedule in following table. Be carefull abou the weekdays and weekends connections, especially during night (for example weekend connection at 00:17 goes on Saturday and Sunday, that actually means Friday and Saturday night): Departure time from Terminál 1 Departure time from Terminál 2 00:17 00:19 00:22 00:24 00:41 00:43 00:56 00:58 00:56 – 03:26 00:58 – 03:28 00:41 – 03:41 00:43 – 03:43 03:26 03:28 03:41 03:43 03:56 03:58 04:01 04:03 04:23 04:25 04:24 04:26 Travel time to Main railway station weekends, 510 Na Beránku I.P.Pavlova Bus 505 to Hlavní nádraží 56 mins weekdays, 510 Na Beránku I.P.Pavlova Bus 505 to Hlavní nádraží 56 mins weekends, 510 Na Beránku I.P.Pavlova Bus 505 to Hlavní nádraží 52 mins weekdays, 510 Na Beránku I.P.Pavlova Bus 505 to Hlavní nádraží 52 mins WEEKDAYS: Bus no. 510 runs every 30 minutes at xx:26 and xx:56 from Terminál 1 stop (xx:28 and xx:58 from Terminál 2 stop) The transfer is the same all the time – go to the I.P.Pavlova stop and change here to the bus no. 505 in direction Sídliště Čimice. Take this bus to the stop I.P.Pavlova (it’s a transfer stop for few night bus lines), the previous stop for getting ready is named Štěpánská and the route from Terminál 2 stop to I.P.Pavlova stop takes 42 minutes. At this stop you have to change for the line no. 505 in direction to Sídliště Čimice. You have to get to the stop in the opposite direction (the bus no. 505 which stops in the same stop like you left the bus is the opposite direction than the one you need). It’s a little bit tricky, because the street you have left the bus in is an one-way street. You have to go 40 meters back to the crossing, go to the right and in the next street there is a bus stop. Bus no. 505 in the direction to Sídliště Čimice leaves I.P.Pavlova stop also every 30 minutes during the weekday night and every 20 minutes during weekend night, there is 4 - 7 minutes time for changing after arrival of every bus no. 510. You have to go just one stop with the bus no. 505, the first stop is Hlavní nádraží (Main station). -5- http://www.mapy.cz (the descriptions added by the author) In case that you go with the last night line connection at 3:56 a.m. (weekdays) or 4:01 a.m. (weekends) then you have to go also to the I.P.Pavlova stop and change here for the bus line no. 505, but these last connections leaving I.P.Pavlova stop at 4:46 a.m. (weekdays) or 4:51 a.m. (weekends) are not going to Sídliště Čimice, but they are ended in Hlavní nádraží, that is the next stop and also the stop you need to get. In case that you miss the last connection with the bus no. 505, do not worry, at this time, you can already change for metro (underground). You follow the same described route to the bus stop of the line no. 505, but before the stop you will see the entrance to the metro station – it is downstairs and marked with red letter C. Here you take the metro in the direction to Florenc – Nádraží Holešovice – Ládví – Letňany. Your destination is named Hlavní nádraží (Main station) and it is a second stop after I.P.Pavlova. The same tickets as for the daily public transport can be used in Prague, so the ticket for 32 CZK is suitable too, it can be bought in the ATM at the bus stop and you have to validate it when entering the bus no. 510, the revalidation in bus no. 505 isn’t needed. The situation is little bit complicated, if you come in the gap between first/last AE bus and first/last night connection, this means between 4 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. and between 9 p.m. and 12 a.m., then you have to use the other public transportation line no. 119 from the airport. Bus line no. 119 (4:00 – 5:30 and 21:00 – 23:45 from the airport) The bus no. 119 stops at the bus stop E at the Terminál 1 stop and at the bus stop A at the bus stop Terminál 2. Take the bus no. 119 and use it till the terminal station named Nádraží Veleslavín (Veleslavín railway station). Nádraží Veleslavín is the transfer station for the metro (underground) A line going to the city center. After leaving the bus go underground following -6- the information system to the green letter A with an arrow symbol (it symbolizes the A line of the metro). Take the metro on the right side of the platform (direction Dejvická – Můstek – Muzeum – Želivského – Skalka – Depo Hostivař). Use the metro for 7 stations till the station named Muzeum (approx. 12 minutes). Muzeum is the transfer station and you change here for the metro line C (follow the arrows to the red marked letter C). Take the metro line C in direction Florenc – Nádraží Holešovice – Ládví – Letňany. The next stop is Hlavní nádraží (Main station). The bus no. 119 is operated during the whole day, but using of the Airport Express line (AE) is much easier and more comfortable for you. Tickets The public transportation ticket for all described versions of journey (except the AE line with special tariff) can be bought in the ATM machine or at any newspaper shop at the airport. Use the ticket for 32 CZK / 1.19 €. This ticket is valid for 90 minutes, the validity time is started when you enter the bus and mark the ticket in the validator (put it inside validator so the printed information is printed on validation stamp place). You don’t have to revalidate it when changing the bus to metro (the ticket is fully transferable within the 90 minutes). In case that your luggage exceeds the dimensions of 25 x 40 x 70 cm, then you’re supposed to buy a ticket for the luggage too; the price of that ticket is 16 CZK / 0,58 €. Validate it in the same as the ticket for you. The ticket for luggage is valid together with your ticket for the same time and you have to validate it when entering the bus in the same way as your ticket. 2. Train tickets purchased by České dráhy (Czech railways – Czech national carrier, abbreviated as ČD in the table) aren’t connected to certain train, they can be used in every train on the route during the whole 24 hours of the day, the same for the bus line AE from the airport, the ticket can be bought from the airport directly to Pardubice and then it is valid in all AE bus connections during that day as well as in all trains operated by České dráhy between Prague and Pardubice during that particular day. There are some exceptions, these trains are marked with the non-bold text. The non-bold texted trains are Pendolinos and few IC trains, where the ticket can be used, but you have to buy the additional seat reservation for every particular train (price is changeable, usually 35 CZK / 1.26 € per person, very often you can get seat reservation for free for this IC trains when purchasing tickets online from their eshop), and the second group of non-bold texted trains are the trains of another carriers – RegioJet, Leo Express (abbreviated as RJ and LE in the table) and Arriva. These carriers work in other way, you have to buy the ticket for particular train connection and tickets bought by České dráhy aren’t accepted. The trains of category SC (SuperCity) are Pendolinos, the trains of category rj (railjet), EC (EuroCity), EN (EuroNight) and IC (InterCity) are the trains with wagons of higher quality. The trains of category R (fast train – “rychlík” in Czech) are the normal trains, the quality is lower than by the other ones and the price is the same so I wouldn’t recommend you to use R train if not necessary. 3. All the regular daily lines go from the bus stops at the same side of the street as the railway station is located. The night line line no. 98 goes from the other side of the street as you can see in the picture below. Buses go almost all the time especially in the peak hours. You just need to get to the bus stop and enter the bus. Don’t forget to validate your ticket in the validator inside the bus. Price list and tickets purchasing This part is about where and how to buy the tickets. It contains a very detailed description of buying the ticket in the e-shop of České dráhy. Then you will need the ticket for Pardubice public transport that can be bought in the ATM at Pardubice railway station. In case of not using AE line but other urban public lines in Prague the tickets can be purchased in the ATM at the airport or in any newspaper shop. The ticket from Prague Airport to Pardubice Train tickets to Pardubice may be purchased at the Prague Tourist Information Centre kiosk right at the Terminal 1 arrival hall or in the e-shop of České dráhy. You can see the kiosk at this photo. They speak English: Martin Trpišovský The tickets bought either in the kiosk or e-shop have the same validity no matter where you buy them, and you can use them also in the Airport Express bus line from the airport to the railway station. I recommend you to buy the ticket online in advance, you can buy the ticket for the Airport Express bus line (AE) as well as for the train to Pardubice. The ticket for the whole journey is cheaper and it is not connected to a particular bus or train, you can use all of them during the day. The ticket is valid in all trains operated by České dráhy, the ticket is valid also in Pendolinos (SuperCity trains) and Opava train (InterCity no. 513), but the seat reservation must be bought, too, however this reservation can be bought later at the cash desk at the railway station. This ticket bought from the company České dráhy isn’t valid in the trains operated by the other carriers RegioJet, Leo Express and Arriva vlaky. - 17 - The ticket can be bought from the webpage https://www.cd.cz/eshop/default. aspx Fill in the field From with the text Praha letiste and the system will offer you the station Praha letiště/Airport (BUS), accept it. Unfortunately the e-shop is fully translated into English, but the names of cities and places aren’t yet, so you can’t write just Prague Airport (letiště is Czech for an airport). Fill in the field To with the text Pardubice (you can leave the text Pardubice or choose the possibility Pardubice hl.n., this is the shortcut for the main station, but if you won’t choose this one, the system will automatically connect the ticket with the main station). You don’t need to put any places you want to go through (field Via) and you need only the one way ticket (the return ticket is valid only within 48 hours). Choose the right day. You can fill in the time, it will offer you then some transport connection during that time and it will give you also the place reservation for the chosen train from Prague to Pardubice, but the ticket is valid in all AE buses and all trains operated by České dráhy started from Prague main railway station from the 12 a.m. till 11:59 p.m. that day. So if you plan to go from Prague with the train R 719 Jan Kašpar at 12:09 a.m. in the night, you need to buy the ticket for the date started after midnight (you won’t use the AE bus in that particular case because the last AE bus leaves the airport at 9:02 p.m., so you will buy the tickets only for the route Prague main station – Pardubice). In that case fill in only Praha (not Praha letiste) You don’t have to change any other field. You want the ticket with possible reservation (it is for free except the Pendolinos), 2nd class ticket and you’re juniors (15 – 25 years) and you don’t have any discount card for Czech train (ISIC cards or any other foreign student cards aren’t accepted). You’re allowed to use the preferable group ticket if you are in a group of at least two persons. The first passenger will pay the full fare, the second passenger receives an automatic 25% discount, the third and each additional passenger receive a 50% discount. So if you plan to travel together just change the number of persons in the field next to the Age and category field.
