Biography
b. 1986, Prague, Czech Republic
Lives and works in Prague, Czech Republic
Ira Svobodová studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague, where she obtained her MA degree
in Painting in 2012. Her work, inspired by the world of architecture, features modernistic
geometrical compositions in pure color tones. She employs a laborious technique applying
special acrylic gels to glaze pure, unmixed colors onto her canvases. Svobodová also creates
large stainless steel sculptures, which borrow from her paintings their sleek architectural
geometry.
Accolades
Svobodová’s work attracted curators and collectors on the Czech art scene even before her
graduation, and her graduation show was well attended by her collectors local and international.
A portion of her graduate portfolio work hung in the Czech National Gallery during the summer
of 2012, and has since been shown at the Czech Ministry of Culture gallery.
