Actor Richard Gere visits the exhibition Sudek
Actor Richard Gere visits the exhibition Sudek – Svoboda/Comparison II in Atelier Josefa Sudka /Josef Sudek Studio/ in Prague 6 July 2015 This summer’s exhibition at Josef Sudek Studio has piqued the attention of visitors from beyond the Czech Republic. Richard Gere, the exceptional actor and holder of multiple prizes for the sexiest man on the planet, rounded off a trip to the Czech Republic by spending an hour or so at Josef Sudek Studio. Enjoying the laid-back atmosphere, Gere and his team chatted with Czech photographer Tono Stano and Studio curator Lucie Mlynářová about Czech photography and one of its most prominent representatives, Josef Sudek. Gere also tried out the famed “view from the window of my studio” with one of Sudek’s original cameras. Josef Sudek Studio (Újezd 30, Praha 1) PPF Group has made a major contribution to the restoration of Josef Sudek Studio in Újezd, Prague, financing a reconstruction project to return it to its original state in 2000 and now – through PPF Art – running the facility. PPF Group’s investment has transformed this replica of the famous photographer’s crumbling studio into a respected exhibition space. Richard Gere in Josef Sudek Studio, Prague. PPF Art a.s. Information for editors: PPF Art PPF Art cultivates PPF Group’s activities in art and culture. At the turn of the century, it started systematically building up a collection of Czechoslovak and Czech photography, at the heart of which is an extensive collection of photographs by the world-renowned Czech photographer Josef Sudek. The collection is gradually being expanded to include works by other artists, and now boasts more than 1,721 works by 128 photographers. The springboard for further collecting activity has become 270 works of art bought by PPF Group from the Česká pojišťovna collection in 2014. The collection includes the works of Alphonse Mucha, Jakub Schikaneder and Mikuláš Medek, with contemporary artists including Petr Nikl, Jan Merta and Tomáš Císařovský. PPF Art runs the exhibition programme at Prague’s Václav Špála Gallery in Národní třída and at Josef Sudek Studio in Újezd. It lends artwork to other exhibitors in the Czech Republic and abroad. Josef Sudek Studio exhibits photographic works by established Czech and foreign artists, as well as the work of up-andcoming photographers. Exhibitions hosted here have included the works of Josef Sudek, František Drtikol, Emilia Medková, Jan Lukas, Ivan Pinkava, Jaroslav Rössler and Gábina Fárová.
