The template for the encoded finding aid was developed by Lynda Smart, Assistant
Archivist using XMetal Version 2.0 and amended by Victoria Peters, GASHE project
manager.The correspondences between the ISAD(G) elements and the EAD element
types, and between EAD element types and MARC fields, were adapted by Pete
Johnston, Glasgow University Archives & Business Records Centre, and Paul Watry
and Julie Allinson, Liverpool University, Department of Special Collections and
Archives, from those recommended in the EAD Application Guidelines Version 1.0.
Amendments were made by Lynda Smart, Assistant Archivist, Glasgow University
Archive Services to update the correspondences between the EAD and ISAD(G)
elements so the EAD elements correspond to ISAD(G) Second Edition. Amendments
were made by Victoria Peters to incorporate the EAD 2002 changes.
Print formatted copy created from the EAD by XSLT and XSL-FO Stylesheets by
John Harrison of the University of Liverpool .

Administrative history
The Alice Brewery, based at Harbour Road, Longman Industrial Estate, Inverness,
Scotland was established in 1983 by Ollie Griffin and was named after his daughter.
The directors were: Oliver T Griffin; Roger Duncan (who was the brewer); G H Mudd;
and S J Fraser. It closed in 1988.

Immediate source of acquisition or transfer
Members of the Friends of the Scottish Brewing Archive. The 1980s bar towel was
gifted by Alex Davie.
Archival history
The collection was previously stored with the rest of the Scottish Brewing Archive at
Heriot–Watt University. It moved to the University of Glasgow in 1991. Custody of the

Scottish Brewing Archive was transferred to Glasgow University Archive Services in
2008.
