Or it can be for "novice" or "first time" users, such as T2 Resellers or some End Users, who really have little or no knowledge of the products and need to be taken through a very simple advice and selection process. If a configurator is on-line, it means that the very latest announcements, prices and information is always available but it can only be accessed via an internet connection and browser. Off-line is needed sometimes, when quotes have to be given in front of a customer when no internet connection is available or if the user is behind a strict firewall but this risks the information being out of date and also requires regular, time-consuming data updates to be downloaded. 3 3 The type of configuration : Custom Models : There are typically three types of configurations which do require different rules and manufacturing instructions. These are : Sometimes called CTO or Configure To Order). These are unique, configured products that are specified, priced and built for a named end user and are not released as generally orderable parts. To define a custom model, a bespoke configuration tool is used which requires a high level of technical expertise. Some business partners are trained to use this tool but many are not (at their choice, all are given the option to receive training), and therefore if an end user requires a custom model an IBM Sales Specialists usually leads the negotiation and defines the model and price. 1 - "Standard" which are the announced and available part number products; 2 - "Custom Model" (or CTO) which are single server models that are built-to-order with non-standard configuration of processor, memory, disk etc; 3 - "Integrated by IBM" (a sub-set of which will also be “cluster-on” using x-config) which are configurations of multiple servers, racks, networking and storage where IBM is asked to assemble and cable them in manufacturing before shipment. - "Cluster-on" configurations are always Integrated by IBM and require additional certifications and processes. - "Integrated by IBM" does not have to be a cluster however. Typically "bundles" or software and services combined with hardware, need to be Integrated by IBM 03/11/2014 © 2014 IBM Corporation Configurator Tools - SSCT A recommended tool for Europe Configuration Tool SSCT (Standalone Solutions Configurations Tool) Configurator used extensively by the channel.
