KAPEJI P03EHKPAHU OF After 1945 with the help of the Local National Committee of Koprivnice the building of the former Stistaia Villa was released for the museum and Into this building Emil Hanzelka, a native of Kopriviiiee, moved all his private collections and began to establish the museum. By careful completing of the collections and gradual improving of the interior of the building the first steps were taken for opeaiRg^me museum to the public in 1947, on the day of the 50th anniversary of the production of motorcars at Koprivnice, In that year, the collections had still mainly local historic aad ethnographic character. Shortly before flie date of opening exposits of ceramics and majolica, products of Kopriveice, were added to the collections. (The manufacture of ceramics and majolica had been started at Koprivnice by Ignac Raika in 1612.) At the same time the first motorcar exhibits appeared too (the first motorcar gained was a fireengine of the type K from 1909). To these exhibits further products of the Tatra-works were added aod exhibited on the free space of the museum park, Officially the museum was opened on August 24th 1947. The citizens of Kopfivnice showed considerable interest in this novelty of their town, the number of visitors on the day of opening being more than 10 000 persons. According to its contents and character of the collections the museum was called ,,E,achenmuseum" (the Lacliens feeing an ethnographic group of the Czech nation !i¥ing In that part of Morawia), In the course of time the collections of the museum were directed towards the industry of Eopri¥nice. In 1953 ft was decided to reconstruct the Lachenmuseum as a special museum of the motorcar ceramic industry. It was then that the museum' gained an enthusiastic helper in the person of the former racing-driver for the Tatra works the ,,meritorioes master of sport" Josef Vermirovsky who after • retiring deYoted himself fully to the museum. In 1SS2 another onestoreyed building was put up as an extension of the main building. The new space gained was used for expositions of motorcars and motors and the smaller part was adjusted as a temporary workshop. In the years of 1966—1067 a general repair of the old building was carried out, besides the management of the Tatra works started building a new pavilion (1200 square metres), with an opening ceremony at the 70th anniversary of the production of the Tatra cars. At the same time the first workshop of its founder Ignac Sustala was reconstructed as well. After reorganization and specialisation of the net of museums in the Morthmoravian region and the district of Novy JiBfn, the museum at Koprivnice was not incorporated under the District Institute for local History at Novy Jifim as before, but from January 1st 1888 the museum was given in charge to the administration of the Tatra works and named TECHNICAL MUSEUM TATRA KopHvnice national enterprise. The technical museum is a place attended by visitors from home and abroad in e-¥er increasing numbers. Their interest is confirmed by the fact that already by September 25th 1969 the staff of the museum could welcome the half millionth visitor in the premises of the museum. During the last five years the museum has gained a considerable number of new {exhibits so that the management of the Tatra works gave consent to the building of a new hall the opening of which was celebrated on June 3rd 1972 on the day of the 75th anniversary of the production of the first motorcar at Koprivnice called ,,The President". Today the technical museum disposes of more than 2200 square metres of exhibition area. Its collections contain, besides other exhibits, 55 motors, 58 cars and undercarriages of the trade-mark Tatra. This, however, Is by no the final number of objects. In the future the further construction of objects for the 'museum will continue in order to provide the visitors with a complete survey of the production in our oldest motorcar works — Tatra Kopfivnice, national enterprise.
