DESCRIPTION OF THE WINTER:
Winter begins on December 21st. Hills and valleys are covered
by snow. Lakes and streams have frozen up. There is a season
of winter sports. Children and adults enjoy skiing, skating,
sledding, snowboarding and building snowmen.
The really cold weather sets in January. It is snowy, cloudy and
frosty. We can see icicles hanging from the roofs and there are
snowdrifts along the roads. There are some transport
difficulties due to the ice and slush. The cold wind sometimes
brings snowstorms. Winters are severe, but it usually freezes
hard only for a couple of weeks. At the end of winter the
temperature rises slowly and snow thaws and streets are
covered with slush.
